Stupid people of the week

As much as I’d like to feather the Ayatollah as the supreme leader of the stupid people of the week, I’m better than that. Instead, I’ll invite you to check out the headlights on this beauty! The way they proudly jut out for all the world to see their wonderful roundness is just glorious. There’s also a woman in the photo, who has conventionally attractive proportions. If you’re in to that sort of thing.

Massachusetts Man Indicted and Arrested for Fraudulently Using Government Seals

Mario Cesar Dos Santos, Jr. (50, Massachusetts) has been charged by indictment and arrested for the fraudulent use of government seals. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 5 years in federal prison. United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe made the announcement.

According to court documents, Dos Santos is the president of an organization called Chaplain Emergency Management Agency Inc. (CEMA), which he falsely claimed was a government agency endorsed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In doing so, Dos Santos fraudulently used the seals of FEMA, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Neither Dos Santos nor CEMA have authorization to use the seals of DHS, FEMA, or FBI, nor are they otherwise affiliated with DHS, FEMA, FBI, or any other department or agency of the federal government.

As outlined in the court documents, Dos Santos has organized multiple CEMA chaplaincy training courses throughout the country. At these trainings, Dos Santos provided participants with identification cards, law enforcement badges, and course completion certificates containing the seals of various departments and agencies of the United States. As shown in the redacted images below, the identification cards contain one of CEMA’s logos, which consists of the DHS seal, modified to state, “U.S. Department of Homeland Chaplain.” The back of the identification cards contain the DHS/FEMA seal with no alterations. The certificates contain the FBI seal and a slightly different version of the CEMA logo—an older version of the FEMA seal, modified to state, “U.S. Department of Homeland Chaplain.”

CEMA’s website and social media accounts all display the CEMA logo (an altered version of the DHS seal) and falsely identify CEMA as a government organization or federal agency.

Dos Santos is a Brazilian national who came to the United States in 2016. He has overstayed his visa and is undergoing deportation proceedings. In connection with his immigration case, Dos Santos submitted multiple fraudulent documents, including a “Certificate of Ordination” and a diploma from the “University of Berkley” in Michigan, which does not exist.

An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

This case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with material support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service’s Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate, and the Federal Air Marshal Service. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Belkis H. Callaos.

LAPD officer hit with felony charges after allegedly skydiving while collecting full disability benefits

Officials on Wednesday accused a Los Angeles police officer of insurance fraud after he allegedly went skydiving multiple times while collecting full disability benefits.

Christopher Brandon Carnahan, 43, of Norwalk, was charged Monday after allegedly exaggerating an on-duty injury sustained in 2023, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Carnahan is a veteran officer who has been with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) 18 years, according to WatchTheWatchers.net, citing California public records.

“This case is about honesty and accountability,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement.

“Claiming to be temporarily totally disabled and collecting disability benefits intended for injured workers while engaging in physically demanding activities like skydiving is a crime. This is an officer who knows the law and understands the standards he is sworn to uphold.”

On May 22, 2023, Carnahan claimed he injured his left elbow while on duty and was subsequently placed on temporary totally disabled (TTD) status, officials said.

Police under TTD are entitled to receive 100% of their base salary tax-free for up to a year and then two-thirds afterward if the injury persists.

Contrary to claims of being completely disabled, Carnahan allegedly engaged in strenuous physical activity, including working out and completing “many skydives” at Skydive Elsinore in Lake Elsinore, south of Los Angeles.

The District Attorney’s Office also released photos showing what appears to be Carnahan skydiving and exercising at a fitness center. In one image, dated May 23, 2024, the LAPD officer is seen holding dumbbells in a motion that involves his elbows.

He faces two counts of felony insurance fraud and is being held on $100,000 bail. If convicted, Carnahan could be sentenced to six years in jail.

The LAPD, which is investigating the case, is expected to review Carnahan’s employment status pending the outcome of his criminal trial.

Man Accused of Setting Multiple Fires to Kill Spiders, Igniting Blaze That Caused Damage to Several Homes

Police in Pennsylvania are looking for a man who is said to have set multiple fires while trying to kill spiders in a townhome.

Police responded to a structure fire on Uncus Lane in Pocono Pines at about 6 p.m. local time on Monday, Feb. 23, according to WFMZ and ABC affiliate WPVI.

A witness told authorities that the homeowner, identified by police as 36-year-old Sean McDermott, set multiple small fires in the house throughout the day, the Delaware County Daily Times reported.

Police said the witness stated that McDermott claimed he “needed to kill the spiders within the residence.”

The witness said he attempted to put out the fires several times while McDermott continued to light them, according to WPVI and the Daily Times.

At one point, McDermott is said to have put a love seat on top of one of the fires he started, WPVI and WFMZ reported.

Police reportedly said both McDermott and the witness then left the area, but upon returning, the witness said the townhome was on fire.

The blaze damaged both McDermott’s home and three other homes nearby, according to WPVI.

McDermott is said to have fled the scene in a U-Haul truck, the outlets reported.

He is now wanted on the charges of arson, causing or risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief and recklessly endangering another person, according to WFMZ.

PEOPLE reached out to the Pocono Mountain Regional Police for comment on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Anyone with information on McDermott’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Pocono Mountain Regional Police at 570-895-2400.

18-year-old drunk on hand sanitizer attacks police officer

An Ohio woman is facing charges after police say she punched an officer in the face while under the influence.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance call on Feb. 16 on 3rd Street SW in Canton.

Police say Jade Cain and her boyfriend, Alan King, had caused problems at the address before.

When officers arrived, body camera video shows King’s mother outside on the sidewalk, who started filling them in on the ongoing issues between the couple.

Police say that’s when Cain and King came out of the house. Cain started arguing with the family almost immediately, according to the report.

Officers said Cain appeared to be under the influence of something and couldn’t stop talking.

Officers later discovered Cain had ingested hand sanitizer.

According to the report, one officer decided to detain her in a patrol cruiser to get the investigation moving.

That’s where things got physical. While officers walked her to the cruiser, Cain went limp and dropped to the ground.

Once at the cruiser, Cain sat down briefly, and the body camera footage shows her asking for a shoe.

Police say she then swung her left hand and hit the officer in the face with her fist. The officer is shown in the video slamming the door shut.

Another officer arrives on the scene shortly after and talks to the family before Cain is taken to the Stark County Jail.

At the jail, police say they put Cain in a holding room. Cain reportedly started kicking the door and banging her head against it.

At some point, she slipped her left hand out of the handcuffs and started slamming the cuffs against the cell door window, cracking and shattering the glass.

Cain was charged with assaulting a peace officer and vandalism.

She is expected back in court on February 24.

‘PB4WEGO’ plate survives the DMV flush test

A reminder that’s become a road-trip ritual for plenty of families is officially back on the road in New York.

A Long Island grandfather will be allowed to keep his custom “PB4WEGO” license plate after the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles initially deemed it objectionable.

The plate, owned by Seth Bykofsky, reads “PB4WEGO,” a phrase he says stands for “Pee Before We Go.”

According to Bykofsky, the DMV notified him in January that his custom plate violated state regulations and would need to be destroyed and replaced with standard-issue plates. In a letter shared publicly, the DMV cited Commissioner’s Rules and Regulations that prohibit license plate combinations considered “derogatory, contemptuous, degrading, disrespectful, or inflammatory.”

Bykofsky pushed back publicly, arguing the phrase was a lighthearted reminder often said by parents and grandparents before a road trip. In social media posts, he framed the issue as one of free speech and called on state officials to reconsider.

In a facebook post Bykofsky said:

“Woe to the mom or dad who asks a child to “Pee Before We Go,” as the plate plainly, and humorously connotes. Is this simple plea, in the hope of avoiding that dreaded, “I HAVE TO PEE,” just minutes after hitting the road, an incitement to riot? Have we inflamed the very soul of toddlers everywhere, struggling, against all odds, to hold it in? Other than to evoke a smile, a passing thumbs up, or a wink and a nod from motorists and pedestrians alike, where is the groundswell of objection to the public display of benign jest?

“Derogatory? Contemptuous? Degrading? Disrespectful? In all my years as a parent and now, grandparent, the worst I’ve gotten has been a gentle roll of the eyes from my kids and grandkids.”

The situation gained wider attention, including from Gov. Kathy Hochul, who intervened.

Gov. Kathy Hochul made a reel, giving Bykofsky the good news herself:

Hochul said she loved the plate, calling it an important lesson.

“We’ll get it back for you. I think everybody should be reminded to pee before you go.”

Under New York regulations, the DMV reviews personalized plates to ensure they do not promote violence or contain offensive language.

They have a list of 2,000 plates the state of NY has pulled, which includes some that are abundantly inoffensive. “4MYKIDS”?

Thank heavens they only misused the govt seals. If it had been the govt penguins, who knows how bad it could have gotten…

I don’t see the strings for those ballons are missing.

Tallywhagger

Spider sissy would never make it in Louisiana. Some of those spider webs, in the fall, can be 40′ across and 30′ high. Don’t know what species the spiders are but they are easily three inches across and maybe 3.5 inches long. They eat well and generally avoid everything that is not food, as they understand it. Mosquitoes are mere appetizers compared with flying cock roaches.

Skivvy Stacker

She is due back in court Feb to 24.

That’s assuming she survives the hand sanitizer.
