Another billionaire leaves California ahead of wealth tax push
Google co-founder Larry Page, second-richest person in the world, reportedly left California as momentum continues for a one-time wealth tax aimed at billionaires. Page shifted registrations for many of his entities from California to Delaware and is reportedly eyeing a move to Florida. Although there’s a push by many Californians to put this proposal up for vote, Governor Gavin Newsom opposes it. If the proposal passes, it will retroactively take effect on January 1, 2026.
From Newsmax:
The proposed measure would impose a one-time 5% tax on individuals with assets exceeding $1 billion.
Supporters, including a healthcare labor union, are pushing to place the proposal on the ballot during November’s midterm elections and are currently gathering signatures.
California law allows voters to approve ballot initiatives even if they face opposition from state leaders.
Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat widely viewed as a potential 2028 presidential contender, has opposed a wealth tax, and its chances of passage remain uncertain.
Notably, the proposal would apply retroactively from Jan. 1, 2026, meaning residents would have needed to leave the state by the end of last year to avoid the tax.
Page, who co-founded Google in 1998, has an estimated net worth of $270 billion, making him the world’s second-richest individual. A 5% levy could cost him roughly $13.5 billion.
Companies that fled California late last year include Koop, Page’s family office; Flu Lab, which funds influenza vaccine research; and One Aero, a shell company that has financed his flying-car projects.
Flu Lab was contacted for comment, while Page and the other companies could not be reached.

HAHAH
This is why most US flag ships were registered to Wilmington, DE. Unless the Deltards change their rules, it still looks like the best option.
California needs to unfuck itself.
SEIU proposed the bill… figures:
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/business-leaders-palmer-luckey-david-220144208.html
“Proposed by the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West labor union, the bill attempts to fill a projected multibillion-dollar state budget deficit.“
A budget deficit? I was told that California had one of the largest, best economies in the world, let alone the nation! Lars, were you mistaken?
Ahh, California, where one must make life decisions based on what tax laws might be passed which will impact money already earned, spent, or invested under a different tax code.
I look at photos of California from the 1930s to the 1950s and turn red with rage over how badly fuckwads ruined that place. Hell, even the 60s weren’t bad.
They really did manage to destroy paradise.
Even into the early 80s it wasn’t bad. I enjoyed my time there.
Joni Mitchell comes to mind, “They paved paradise, put up a parking lot….”
I wonder what even she would think of Kalifornication today?
California voted for republican president every year from 1952 to 1988 except for 1964 (LBJ). Republicans had a healthy representation at the US Senate, House, and State legislature. It was a center right purple State for quite a while. Many conservatives were upset w/ Pres Reagan’ s 1986 amnesty policy. Most of the 3 million or so illegal aliens lived in California and probably accelerated the flip to Blue for the nation’s largest state. By the late 80s republicans in CA were becoming a rare bird.
But but but Lars told me people were flocking to California, willing to buy million-dollar homes for the privilege of living in his glorious state. Billionaires and big businesses are leaving? How can this be?
Redfin says no change in prices since April 2022, when post COVID prices peaked, then declined and remained mostly steady. YOY sales also down, 3.7% and down 29% from April 2022 peak. Days on market is up 63% of that helps?
Curiously the FED RES began raising rates March 2022. This appears to correlate exactly to the slump in housing. In fact every time housing picked up, the Fed raised rates. I wonder why nobody has fired that guy?
https://www.redfin.com/state/California/housing-market
As a side note, California has the 2nd lowest rate of home ownership in the US, just ahead of NY at 55%. So only 55% of the people moving there buy a home. I don’t think they are putting down roots.
When I looked at housing in NY I noticed that they have some of the highest property taxes in the US. However, property is roughly half the price of California, so they pay about the same amount in taxes because the rate is so high.
So your friend may be mistaken.
He nearly always is. And not exactly a friend.
…or bullsh*tting with wishful thinking.

Middle class people buy houses largely based upon how much monthly payment they can afford. Interest rates control a large component of that monthly payment.
California million dollar homes …. lemme explain. I live in a 2 BR, 2 Bath condo with loft, 1120 sq ft, on the third floor with no elevator (32 steps!) — first floor is a tandem garage; second floor is my neighbor.
Current value:
Your home’s estimated current value
Based on recent market data, your home at [redacted; San Jose, CA] has an estimated value of
$1,067,642
No yard … no fence … it’s nice, but for over $1m????
My primary home is a four year old home on a 1 acre lot, 2800 sqft, SFH with 3 car garage and my home value is $555k. My area is growing very fast by national standards. I paid $400K four years ago when I purchased it. So it has improved about 7.5% a year. It is still a low cost living area.
My secondary home is in the NOVA/ DC area. It is essentially the same home (3200 sqft, 2 car garage) as the other with a slightly smaller lot, but also a nice free form swimming pool. It is valued at $1.1M.
So you are saying that a small LA condo is the same as a nice sized family home in NOVA? I find that shocking because NOVA is already twice as expensive as my home area.
When I left CA way back when, my house (1550 sq ft 3br/2.5ba, 3100 sq ft lot) sold for just under $700k. That was just before prices collapsed.
According to Zillow, it’s worth $1.1M today.
Yeah, no.
LMAO!
My house on West Oahu is listed on Zillow at $850K. I paid $275K. Def not worth almost a million!
I get it. I grew up in Teton County Wyoming. 1 bed 1 bath 400 sq ft condos are over $500k now.
He means these f*cktards… or more of his Somali buddies who’ll be along shortly:

Just wondering if this “one time tax” would ever happen again? Also why is it happening now?
If I went over to your house and said you either give me 5% of everything you own or I will lock you in a closet for ten years and take it anyway would you do it? Would you believe me when I said it was just a one time thing? That I was just Jonesing really bad for a high speed rail project and only needed another $60 Billion to make it happen. This time it would for sure get built.
In totally unrelated news George Clooney fled California in 2025, selling his LA Mansion in August and leaving the USA foerver with his $500M in loot. He was awarded French Citizenship last month. Maybe he had PTSD from all of his fake military service in the movies?
https://www.sportskeeda.com/pop-culture/news-where-george-clooney-live-france-actor-wife-amal-clooney-twins-ella-alexander-awarded-french-citizenship
Good riddance to George, and I’m sure he’s figuring out the IRS is going to impose an Exit Tax on him that’s going to eat into his earnings. After that, the French government will impose harsh taxes on him too.
Tax the Rich!! Then after their assets have been redistributed, they can be eaten! Soylent Green is the favorite protein of the masses.
Tax the rich, feed the poor.
Till there are
poor no more.
Tax the rich
Feed the poor
Till there are
Rich no more
So he transferred to Delaware? The state where if you make too much money, they take it from you?
Odd flex.
You mean the January 1st for this year that already came and went?
Where has the time gone.
Long time passing…
When they send a bill that says you owe x amount, I would suggest a CHIP NSA avatar reply.
What’s the state gonna do after you’ve unassed the AO, with no assets left behind to seize?
Sue you and garnish your 2025 tax return (if you have one)? The really nasty part is that this is on all wealth, including “unrealized gains. So if your company is worth $5 billion but most of that isn’t liquid, somehow one must come up with the cash. Most of the “.tech folks” do not have the sympathy of the “normies” therefore it will be “applauded”. Seizures never stop with the “elite” and it is likely the normies will find themself on the hook for 5%. Mao Zedong should have taught those who remember, the educators and students went to the countryside after serving their purpose.
Can someone explain how a retroactive tax is legal? Seems a serious Constitutional violation to me… but I’m no lawyer..
This will make a bunch of lawyers wealthy defending their clients. Class action lawsuit? I’m thinking big sur or lake arrowhead would be my portion of the winnings. Hell, I’d settle for big bear.
Kalifornication can only seize Kalifornication assets.
If you’re no longer in Kalifornication, and file a tax return in a different state, what’s Kalifornication gonna do?
Great question. Backdated to 1/1/26, any portion of time might apply to the entire first quarter of earnings. The vote will not be until November, yet it will still apply. It may not make much of a difference to most, however, for those “super elite”, it might be costly. Unlike NY, which has a set number of days, California uses a different metric (of course).
“California’s rules around tax residency are complex. While New York bases its residency rules around “domicile” and whether a person is in the state for more than 183 days, California uses a measure called “the closest connection test.” According to Manes, the test uses a wide array of rules and measures to weigh a taxpayers connections to California versus their new home state. The measures typically include residency, social and family contacts, assets and work.
Changing residency or claiming non-residency for tax purposes can also trigger a second set of rules. A California taxpayer, for instance, has to not only buy a home or sign a lease in another state, but also prove they live there – through family photos, heirlooms and other signs of a true primary residence. A change of residency must occur before the taxable event, whether it’s a wealth tax or liquidity event.
“Intent is critical,” Manes said. “You have to show you intended to leave California indefinitely, permanently.”

Proggie retard Europeans want to punish Americans for saying sh*t they didn’t like on American websites in America, too.
Here in the Little Town of Rock Ridge, OK… suck it, left/libtards:
Oklahoma always has the nation’s lowest fuel costs. The average price of $2.26 per gallon in Oklahoma right now. Which is higher than before Trump took office. Which was $2.16.

Showing that you live in a shithole that so few people want to live that the median home price is less than 35% the national median is not the flex you think it is.
I often get pretty frustrated with this blog, but posts like yours just makes me feel sorry for you.
Hey, at least it ain’t a Blue State sh*thole. That would really suck, as I”m sure you can attest. How’s that 61¢/gal gas tax and the literal sh*thole (San Fran) there?
What liberal fail to understand is that living in rural or less populated areas is a choice. Just like your choice is to live in a crowded, shit paved urban nightmare. You conflate cost of living with quality of life. We don’t want your urban lunacy, we don’t need the things you deem to be important to a good life. So, you just stay right where you are, live your best life, and stay out of other people’s life choices. You have no room to judge.
Plus, out here:

Population growth. Oklahoma is one of the fastest growing states in the country. Within the “South” it underperforms a bit, but I would consider more mid western.
https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2023/population-trends-return-to-pre-pandemic-norms.html
How’s it going, 2-Headed Goat? You feeling baaaaaaad?
Do tell what the average gas prices were when Biden took office, and how much they increased.
Then explain how much they’ve dropped.
Don’t use Reddit as a source either
Um,,,I went back and reread the post from Anonymous, and no where in did he claim to live there. Your assumption could be wrong. He just might be traveling through there.
As I am currently in Houston TX and gas is $2.09/gal at several places.
I would absolutely live in a rural red state over a crowded blue state cesspool.
My wife and I have almost 200 acres, in the woods, 15 miles from any one of three small towns that can supply every necessity and almost every “want”.
We are almost self-sufficient and continue to work toward it.
Nearest neighbor lives in a house that he rents from us and is half a mile away. Next neighbor is an AWSOME elderly gentleman that lives another half a mile from there.
Our solitude and privacy is so much more pleasant and pleasurable than living in some crime infested, drug infested, taxed to death, crowded, nightmarish city, being ruled over by rich democrats that don’t care anything at all about their constituents, and only care to fulfill their selfishness by lining their own pockets! Like the Pelosi’s of SF-CA, the Walz’s of MSP-MN, etc. etc.
To borrow some words from my fellow 25-series friend SFC D, “you are dismissed!”
Yes, actually, I do live in OK… in the town that inspired Mel Brooks’ finest, no less.
Oklahoma is ranked 32nd out of 50 states in personal freedom.
43rd out of 50 per capita GDP.
43rd out of 50 in life expectancy.
42nd out of 50 states with regard to quality of life.
You should move to a blue state. Your life will suck less. Just fill your tank before you leave. .
Just stop with your personal freedom crap. It defies common sense and observation. Move to a blue state? And literally give up freedoms? I’m very happy right where I am, just enough liberals to give me something to laugh at, open carry, low property taxes, fairly decent home prices. No blue state can give me anything I don’t already have. Now, what is that you have that makes you think you can look down on anyone here? You’re a failed officer and terrorist sympathizer. Not exactly an exalted position.
Dismissed.
Failed officer?
Clown.
I went Private to Major and retired honorably.
If I hadn’t developed three autoimmune diseases towards the end of my service I would have made lieutenant colonel.
I was not a failed officer. At worst I was a mediocre officer.
You show us every day exactly what kind of officer you were. Now, can you address your sympathy and participation in terrorist activities? This also speaks to your efficacy as an officer. You know, that oath thing.
I don’t participate in terrorist activities.
You need to knock off the bullshit.
Just because you are too fucking brain dead and brain washed to not take propaganda literally, doesn’t make me a terrorist.
Dumb fuck.
Did you or did you not serve as a self-appointed “medic” at an antifa demonstration? I’m not asking as a result of brainwashing or succumbing to propaganda. Your own words are the basis of my question.
By your own admission you claimed to support Antifa as a medic.
Providing assistance to a domestic terrorist organization makes you a domestic terrorist by definition.
Always straight to the insults, name calling and immaturity.
To accuse anyone else of believing the propaganda is hilariously ironic, and to hint at being so much more intellectual and intelligent than everyone that doesn’t agree with you is laughable.
I bet any amount of money they referred to you as Major Fuck-up because you don’t partially screw up things up. No, you go gull Mongolian Cluster Fuck!
🤣🤣🤣 “full Mongolian Cluster Fuck” is now added to my vocabulary!! Thank you!
Ahh you are carrying on the Goat standard set by Batisse and William Windsor.
A mediocre officer, yet would’ve made LTC. Civil Affairs was sucking that bad?
Did you retire as an SFC?
Yes, I absolutely did. 24 years. Do you have a point?
You mean you were a mediocre officer at best, right?
To admit to being a “mediocre officer” is not something to be proud of and the Soldiers serving under and alongside you deserved better. You statement right there tells me that you did not lead according to the “Rebekah Principle”. SMH!!
Just so we are clear; you are on record saying that personal freedom doesn’t matter. Right?
A. Riding to you, what matters is how free oligarch controlled media makes you feel.
It is a vibe check after being told what to think.
That actual facts don’t matter.
No, I am not. It matters a great deal. I am saying your reference regarding personal freedoms is complete bullshit.
I have noticed that your facts are consistently mixed up or wrong. Just like today. What is up with that?
Did you send up reports like that when you were in the military? I bet you got chewed out a lot.
2HG.
His idea of freedom is only from personal responsibility.
People like “Commissar” believe personal freedom is determined by the state, and that freedoms such as freedom of speech, trade, the right to own property, and for people to retain their own wealth are considered “negative freedoms”. Any personal wealth or property should be distributed.
To him, “personal freedom” includes abolishing the right to private property, state-funded abortions, suppression and persecution of political rivals and minorities, and the belief that it is the state, not the individual, is the ultimate owner of a person’s body and every other aspect of their life.
People like him also believe that the state should decide what is in people’s “true” interests and use coercive tactics to keep people in line.
Yeah, but its 24th in Fiscal Freedom while Blue States CA & NY rank 48th and 49th…Florida is #1 BTW…
Plus he has the bonus of being far, far away from you.
Your information is a bit dated.
Personal freedom = 23 as of 2025.
Oklahoma has the largest population of pure tribal indians in the US, even more than California. Life expectancy is lower. GDP and quality of life are lower as well. This is nationwide.
Do you have a cite for that, 2-Headed Goat? Or are you just bleating whatever comes into your gruff head?
Curiously he is quoting a CATO Institute Study which is libertarian think tank. As a left winger it is an odd thing to do.
Washington gas price at Costco today is $3.53 a gallon due to the last governor’s (“D”) “Climate Commitment Act” which now has accumulated over $4 billion yet the new (“D”) governor can’t use it repair washed out mountain highways and failed bridges recently damaged this winter.
Good Riddance.
He was already a freeloaded and tax dodger anyway.
He founded Google on government funded research.
Then continued to take hundreds of millions in government funding and contracts while doing everything to avoid any taxable income. Including taking equity and a $1 salary to avoid income tax.
He is the exact kind of useless parasite piece of shit that Californians are trying to get to leave.
He uses his wealth and power to influence government and participate in the creation of a massive dystopian surveillance state…
While contributing nothing himself.
Taxpayers made him who he was.
Fuck him.
Glad he is leaving.
So, he’s a turd because he followed tax laws to pay the lowest amount possible? You really don’t understand the game your bitching about, do you?
He isn’t merely following tax law, he is exploiting tax loopholes that the rich bought off politicians to add to the tax code.
Loopholes you can’t use yourself because they leverage shelter mechanisms only accessible to the ultra rich.
People are demanding changes to close mechanisms oligarchs are using to exploit the system. And when he can no longer buy favors and override the votes of Californians, he flees.
Good riddance.
His is a fucking parasite.
If you follow the law, and it favors you, it ain’t a loophole. It’s the law. I’m sure you pay no taxes, so it’s all lost on you. Here’s a hint: No taxpayer pays more than they absolutely have to. You can reduce the tax bite legally.
Why would people pay more taxes than they had too? That would make no sense.
I did notice that with him leaving California their tax income receipts will drop by $1,000,000,000 a year. Property tax probably a lot too. But apparently people some Californians are happy he is leaving because he is a parasite? That doesn’t make any sense either.
After seeing that Somalis carted off $9B, and all the billions that deep leg crosser Gavin burned through, any nickel more is a dime too much in taxes.
That’s kinda my point. Lawers and accountants make a shitload of money ensuring people pay the lowest amount. It’s not noble to ignore a tax break, it’s bad business. How many California taxpayers will leave with this guy? Nothing California does makes sense.
The loop holes created and protected by San Fran Nan, The Clintons, Joe Biden for 50 years, and of course by your Lord and Savior, Saint Barry of Kenya errr Hawaii.
Yeah…Google sucks…
As does Apple, HP, Microsoft, Sun, Oracle, ect…
They contributed NOTHING to our modern lives…
Enjoy picking his share of Cali’s crushing tax burden.
2HG.
Lars Nicholas Taylor Oakland California -terrorist.
So he’s a democrat then!
So, unrelated: apparently Tampon Tim wants to activate the MN National Guard over the ICE Self-defense shooing earlier today. What is he gonna do? Expell all of the Federal Agents from the state? Doesn’t that meet the definition of rebellion and insurrection?
https://www.newsmax.com/politics/tim-walz-national-guard-minnesota/2026/01/07/id/1241222/
Sounds a wee bit insurrectiony to me. What happens when he orders Soldiers to block federal agents in the performance of their duties? Would Mark “foreskin” Kelly call that an illegal order?
Thanks. I see we both have the same nickname for Kelly.
