Pete Hegseth to censure Mark Kelly-Orders retirement rank and pay review

| January 5, 2026 | 33 Comments

Pete Hegseth, Secretary of War, announced that Senator Mark Kelly, Democrat from Arizona, will receive a formal censure letter. Additionally, Hegseth directed John Phelan, Secretary of the Navy, to review Kelly’s  retirement rank and pay. Phelan was directed to provide a recommendation within 45 days. The decision could potentially impact Kelly’s retirement rank and pay.

 From Fox News:

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., will receive a formal censure letter and that he has directed Secretary of the Navy John Phelan to review the retired Navy captain’s retirement rank and pay and provide a recommendation in 45 days, sharply escalating an investigation alleging he made “seditious statements” that undermined military operations.

“Six weeks ago, Senator Mark Kelly — and five other members of Congress — released a reckless and seditious video that was clearly intended to undermine good order and military discipline,” Hegseth said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “As a retired Navy Captain who is still receiving a military pension, Captain Kelly knows he is still accountable to military justice. And the Department of War — and the American people — expect justice.”

The review could result in a downgrade of Kelly’s rank at which he officially retired. As a result, his retirement pay, which is tied to rank, may also be reduced.

A censure letter will also be issued outlining the “totality of Captain Kelly’s reckless misconduct,” Hegseth said.

Such a letter typically calls out figures for wrongdoing and can be used to justify reductions in rank, pay or benefits. It also serves as an official warning that future misconduct could result in harsher consequences.

It appears that the “good” Captain has officially entered the FO phase of the operation..

You should be on the Air Force amn/nco/snco Book of Faces page. A WHOLE lot of proggy douchebags and civilians telling everyone what’s what….“Mark’s My HERO for standing up for what’s right!!!” (ಠ_ಠ)…… 凸(`0´)凸

cobrkai99

That page has gone downhill in the last 5 years. Lots of whining about having to uphold standards.

Tallywhagger

This would not have been one of my first choices for “reprimand” but… payback is a bitch and the jerkoff Senator, along with his pivot party buddies brought it on themselves.

A start is a start. Will it lead anywhere? Dunno, but they certainly have his attention now. Bust him down to 2LT and put him on rock painting detail. The airman beneath him can tben tell him its an unlawful order to deface govt property since the govt bought the rocks in the first place, and they refuse his order.

Dean

OK then fire his ass. Why do we pussyfoot around everything these days. Your anti-America, then leave. And if you’re a politician, one that goes against American policy then you should be fired and put in jail. All of the politicians that gained huge financial resources during the last administration should have all of that funding taken from them and given back to the government pay our debt. Why are we letting people get away with this shit?

He played stupid games, now the stupid prizes are on their way!

Got any barracks lawers around who can definitively say whether censure counts as being convicted of a crime?

You all do know that this will last until the next Democrat majority only, at which point they will hail St. Mark’s martyrdom and not only restore an lost benefits but add interest.

BennSue

Censure is not a conviction. It’s about as effective as a Letter of Reprimand.

Nice!

Wasn’t Luka one that ended up “sleepin wit da fishes?”

That can either be a “Pinochet Helicopter Ride” or a “Swimming Lesson, Duterte Style.”

As much as I’d love to see Mark “Foreskin” Kelly keelhauled over this, I just don’t see it going anywhere. I’m no lawer, but it’s gonna come down to intent. Now, anyone who has ever served knows that Kelly’s intent was to sow discord among the ranks, just to stick it to the evil orange man. The big stumbling block I see is how are you going to prove it. Unless the douchebag has a Colonel Jessup moment and confesses, I think this effort will fail. Dammit. I hope I’m wrong.

We were thinking he’d demand trial by court-martial at work today. (Cap’n Kirk?)

Intent is somewhat hard to prove. In most cases it is proved by something the defendant said to someone else or wrote down. Usually, it is proved through a witness who heard the incrimination statement from the defendant, or if in writing by an authenticated form of the writing, such as an email or text.

Also, sometimes intent is proven by the defendant’s conduct which demonstrates his intent or implies it.

Awesome! Many thanks!

I’m happy to see this happening. I’m also realistic to figure that this is as far as any “prosecution” ie court marshal would go. In this case they publicly embarrassed the twat and possibly take some money from him. I seriously doubt he will miss the pay given how much graft a dem senator has access to along with the skimming of his wife’s foundations etc. This might also be something he lacks the ability to challenge since it’s administrative and not a court action.

Skivvy Stacker

Can they knock him down to Seaman? Seems more than appropriate.
