Enough politics?

Well, tough. Today is updates.

First up – Molly Kaptur of Ohio (a D) just won re-election for the 22nd time. I suspect she thinks of the House as a relatively low-stress job, as she has only introduced a whopping 5 bills in 41 years. (Ironically, the same number as of bills Trump has signed in his first 100 days, a new record low. ) Her margin of re-election was less than 1% and she is seen as vulnerable. Enter today’s first subject:  Alea Nadeen, a Toledo native, a Republican, of Iraqi descent – and a Air National Guard commander and intelligence officer. Perhaps some of you may know the good lieutenant colonel?

Nadeem serves as the commander of the 150th Security Forces Squadron at the 150th Special Operations Wing, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. Before joining the Special Operations Wing, Nadeem was a congressional budget and appropriations liaison to the Senate Appropriations Committee, assigned to the Secretary of the Air Force, Financial Management and Comptroller at the Pentagon. She previously served as a policy advisor on the National Security Council policy advisor, working in the Executive Office of the President at the White House.  Air Force Academy News

One hopes after all the anti-DEI stuff her info is still available.  Interesting background, which rings a bell: her father took her from her mother to Iraq when she was 8 and it took 4 years to get her back here. She enlisted after 9/11 as soon as she graduated high school, did her 20,  and left active duty a year and a half ago.

Zachary Young, who successfully took CNN to the legal woodshed over their defamatory coverage at Kabul, is looking to increase his body count. He is also suing US News & World Report,  Puck, and the Associated Press.  Capitalism Institute  Essentially, anyone who followd on CNN’s characterization of him as “smuggling” is going to get hit. We discusssed him recently, with several doubting that the simple use of “smuggling” will be sufficient for a jury to decide in his favor. Stay tuned.

And, as he seems to have done several times since he took office (tariffs? No tariffs? Zillionaire tax increase? Decrease?) President Trump is backpedaling on another campaign issue, getting rid of Daylight Savings Time. In December 2024 he told Congress it should go. Now, maybe not.

“The House and Senate should push hard for more Daylight at the end of a day,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Very popular and, most importantly, no more changing of the clocks, a big inconvenience and, for our government, A VERY COSTLY EVENT!!!”

Interestingly, leisure providers like golf courses are in favor  of permanent DST  as they perceive better operating hours are in the offing. Me, I suspect most folks would adapt – there are other countries who don’t even differentiate between time zones and they manage to survive OK. Just pick a time and live with it.

Last but not least, we’re told to drill and become energy/job independent, right? Be a petroleum engineer and safely be in demand? Think the big multinational oil companies support that?

Competition for engineering and geologist jobs in the oil-and-gas sector was fierce prior to Trump’s tariffs, Collin Eaton of The Wall Street Journal reports. Now, companies such as Chevron (CVX), BP (BP), and other oil companies are offshoring more specialized white-collar positions and related work to lower-cost labor pools in countries such as India, while cutting jobs elsewhere. The shift has thinned the companies’ ranks of skilled U.S. workers. Other companies in the space who are or have shifted much of their workforce to India include Exxon Mobil (XOM), Shell (SHEL), and TotalEnergies (TTE).   WSJ via Market Insider

“…oil companies are offshoring more specialized white-collar positions…”

This has been going on for decades. Back in the mid-2000’s I was doing computer post-sales tech support in the auto industry. Engineering was split between centers in the US, India, Asia, and Europe. Cars were developed for a global market, so component design could take place anywhere.

It’s not surprising it happened. How graduates from US high schools are capable of earning an engineering degree? Way back in the 1990’s an acquaintance was getting a masters in engineering from a large state university. Way back then he was the only US born person in the masters degree program.

My older son was one of three Americans in his computer engineering program when he was in college. 40% of those in graduate programs at MIT are international students.

“he was the only US born person in the masters degree program.”

That may even include faculty. The last time I walked through the math. faculty offices at my local alma mater it was like the UN. I was particularly amused by a Russian and a German professor, both with thick accents, conversing in English.

I went to SOS with Alea. She’s great!

Good Golly, Mrs. Molly you haven’t had a whole lot of shaking going on. The epitome of a worthless career kongress kritter. Don’t know what’s worse…your voting/bill introducing record or your voter’s voting record. The Good LTC looks kinda hot, not that it should affect anyone’s vote…much.

Get some, Mr. Young.

It’s past time to quit dicking around with the time. We’re all gonna run out of time at some point in time and we don’t need to waste time on adjusting the time.

How’d them cheap engineers work out for Boeing? News flash…the Globalists CEOs of these companies don’t give a flying fat rat’s ass whether or not Americans get these engineering jobs. The less they pay the hired help, the more they can pay themselves. That’s just the way it is.

I am 100% onboard with her lack of work ethic. Otherwise she would just be screwing more things up.

Mark Twain(?) would approve.

My son was the first to graduate in a newly formed electrical engineering program at my local state college. Of course he graduated number one in his degree program, he was the only one seeking the more advanced degree. Now he works for a large company as an avionics engineer. The other hundreds of engineers are all us citizens, except for a few foreigners who have now been deported. I think that at least in my area engineering is making a come back.
Some of his instructors were Chinese.

Nadeem is a nice looking chic from the above pic. I saw her name and got the name mixed up with the song “Nadine”
by the Coronets 1953 on the Chess label. Not like Chucky..

Set the clock and leave the damn thing alone.

DST or ST. Pick one. The folks who dont get their favorite will adapt. Dang near everyone agrees with “pick one and knock of the bullcrap”.

Army-Air Force Guy

Should’ve done away with DST when tractors started becoming standard with electric lights

Standard Time or Daylight Time. Choose one and stop mucking with the clocks twice a year. Last I check, most everyone agrees with -that-.
