Space Force commander fired in Greenland for email critical of JD Vance

Space Force Col. Susannah Meyers was fired as the commander of Pituffik Space Base, Greenland after she wrote a memo that appeared to disagree with Trump administration’s rhetoric on absorbing the country.

The Space Force officer in charge of Pituffik Space Base, Greenland, was relieved of command Thursday after she wrote a memo that appeared to disagree with the White House’s rhetoric on buying or even invading the small country.

Space Force Col. Susannah Meyers was relieved for a “loss of confidence in her ability to lead,” a statement posted by Space Operations Command on April 10 said. Meyers was relieved following a March 31 email she sent to the 821st Space Base Group in response to Vice President JD Vance echoing President Donald Trump’s rhetoric on taking over Greenland during a visit to the country.

“I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base,” Meyers wrote in the email, according to Military.com.

Task and Purpose

Formerly Thule Air Base, Pituffik is located on Greenland’s balmy West coast well above the Arctic Circle. I never had the pleasure of a visit but know some who have, and the gag line of a long Air Force joke is, “Sir, I’m an E-1 on Thule pumping shit out of airplanes. What exactly are you going to do to me that’s worse?”

Get fired, I suppose. Another virtue signaling commander relieved for that catch-all of sins, loss of confidence to command. Thanks to Anonymous for the head’s up.

We can expect her to announce her run for Congress in 5,4,3,2…

Jimbojszz

She would make a good democrap canadate as she said “ I dont understand politics”. Also cant follow rules and keep her mouth shut. Talks out of her ass. This sounds like AOC, jr.

SFC D

Nope. Military Affairs correspondent on CNN.

The Boss is not always right…but the Boss is the Boss. Pro tip…don’t piss off the Boss…if you want to keep your job.

Rule 1: The Boss is always right
Rule 2: If the Boss is wrong, see Rule 1

Another embarrassing example of my gender.

Hate_me

What teams? Is there even a game? I thought it was all one big, multi-gender, choose-your-own participation even, now.

Like AW1Ed said, plenty on the boy’s team.
One thing I despise about the “identity [con] game” is that the good folks get painted with the same brush when a bad apple shows up.

For the life of me, I can’t imagine what she was thinking. Much higher ranked people with much better connections have been fired in the last two months for much less.

Retired Grunt

Maybe she did it on purpose. Think about it. She is in the frozen north. She is left of center. She doesn’t think she had a chance under this POTUS for her star. She’s freezing her ass off daily. Her base isn’t exactly the most sought after of posts. She will get her retirement in full without courts martial. She was gonna retire anyway. Why not get out of the frozen north quicker, drop your packet and retire with the credential of having been so “brave” as to throw her career on the heap of history fighting orange man and his evil policies. Yeah, I possibly see pundit in her future.

“I can’t imagine what she was thinking.”

Possibly–“This is the high point of my career, my reward for what I have worked towards for over 20 years years; command of……..”

I know Dems are clutching pearls, but imagine if this was a private business. Say the CEO/CFO or some other Top Dog makes it know the company interested in acquiring another company, and you a Director decide to pen a memo to all your employees undermining that as bad strategy or just generally poo-pooing the whole idea. How long do you keep your job? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? End of the day at most.

Trump has brought accountability to the government. No more getting fired up the chain of command. You may disagree, but you should be smart enough to keep that to yourself or be smart enough not send an email. If not, then you’re not smart enough to have that position anyway.

ETC(SS)

lol…you would think you would be fired but I have seen people march up to the the CEO and state that an acquisition of another company was dumb. They kept their job. Crazy, but it was an electric power company…not really known for much beyond burning down local towns with poor maintenance practices.

Is it just me? Every time I see “Pituffik” my brain reads Pitiffuk.

Skivvy Stacker

Or it sounds like an insult;
“You fucking Pituffik!”

Or as Frank Zappa said “Watch out where the huskies go and don’t you eat that yellow snow”.

I’ll drink to that!

Outside of a pure DEI hire issue. Senior Officers generally do understand politics as it starts to become something you have to deal with past the rank of 0-4.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Holy shit! You have a Space Force Base?
Thule was a hell of a lot easier to pronounce. Guess they had to toss the local Eskimo a seal bone
