Wasilla police officer kills man who fired on him, troopers say
Zaz Hollander, Anchorage Daily News, Alaska
Mar. 17—A 34-year-old Wasilla man was shot and killed by a police officer late Sunday after the man fired on the officer’s cruiser with a rifle, Alaska State Troopers said.Troopers said the incident followed a 911 report of a domestic disturbance near Settlers Bay around 10 p.m. As troopers and police responded, the people involved in the disturbance got out of the home and left the area, troopers said.
Wasilla resident Brett George “put on body armor, armed himself with an assault rifle, and left the residence in a vehicle,” troopers said in an online update Monday.
The Wasilla officer initiated a traffic stop on George’s vehicle near the residence, troopers said. George briefly stopped but then fled and law enforcement initiated a pursuit, they said.
George got out of his vehicle at the intersection of Knik-Goose Bay Road and Settlers Bay Drive and fired the rifle at the fully marked Wasilla police car, troopers said.
“The Wasilla police officer returned fire, striking George,” they said. He was declared dead at the scene. His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner Office.

Fatal case of cabin fever? At least the other residents were able to leave, and no LEOs were injured.
Man, 19, shot dead by police in Orange County after brandishing weapon at officers
Will Conybeare
Officers shot and killed a man who lifted his shirt and brandished a weapon at them in Orange County late Saturday, police say.A press release issued by the Fullerton Police Department states that authorities were first dispatched to the 700 block of West Orangethorpe Drive at 11:51 p.m. regarding a domestic disturbance.
“The reporting party told the call taker that his 19-year-old brother had a knife and swung it at his father,” the press release said.
When officers arrived on scene, they contacted the 19-year-old outside of the residence on a sidewalk. He was not compliant with officers’ instructions, and after several commands, he lifted his shirt and removed “what appeared to be a gun” from his waistband.
It was at that moment that the officers opened fire, Fullerton police said.

If you try to kill them they will kill you right back.
“If you’re going to kill the king, be sure not to miss”.
“The call taker” was unarmed and unharmed, we may presume.
That is correct luckily. I don’t know if he was using a pistol or a rifle but dude was probably hopped up on something to miss with a rifle at that range is unusual.
“may have been a touch heavier” – I bet.
“break-in” – on a Walther takes 2-3x as long as on a Ruger, S&W, SigSauer, – just about any gun I’ve ever shot.
Hard pass on the Walther – even in 1911 Colt.
Good shooting from the Alaskan LEOs. I do suspect that seasonal disorder is a factor in the deceased’s actions.
19 y.o. made bad life choices.
Score two (2) for the Good Guys! Alaska Man and Commiefornia Man is getting as teh stoopid as Flur-Ruh-Duh Man.
Best way to fight evil is to follow Colonel Cooper’s other rule…”Have a gun.”
Heresy! Just cause it LOOKS like a 1911 doesn’t mean it IS a 1911. HMS JMB (HBHN)…weeps
.22 conversion unit, dedicated .22 gun – potayto, potahto. Both work.
That said, the GSG/Sig 1911-.22 is almost identical, runs well out of the box, and costs a bit less. Barrel threading is 9mm rather than Walther 8mm, but adaptors are cheap and available for either.
Replacement magazine follower/spring sets can increase magazine capacity to 14-15… now you’re talking.
Iffen I was in the market for a .22 caliber 1911 platform, I’d look at the Sig over the Walther for…reasons. I do very little “recreational shooting” preferring to save my boolits for when I may need them for something besides paper targets or steel plates. Ironically, I have(had, damn a leaky boat!) several cases of .22LR but no .22LR platform for them…yet. There may and/or may not be a Ruger 10/22 with my name on it waiting at my pard’s toy store. Primary reason for that platform is squirrels and such…come The Fall.
