Intoxicated horseback rider disrupts Georgia Christmas parade, police say
CHATSWORTH, Ga. — A Christmas parade in Chatsworth, Georgia took an unexpected turn over the weekend when police say an intoxicated rider on horseback caused a disturbance, leading to his arrest.
According to a report provided to our newsroom by Chatsworth Police Chief Josh Etheridge, Officer Peden, who was on duty for traffic control during the parade last Saturday, was alerted to a disruption involving a rider identified as Gabrion Carrell.
The incident began when Carrell, reportedly intoxicated, got into an argument with firefighters who were also in the parade, causing the parade procession to halt.
Officer Peden and Deputy Weaver approached the scene and identified Carrell as the source of the disturbance. The police report says Carrell, who appeared to be under the influence, denied his identity when questioned by officers.
Despite multiple commands to stop, the report says Carrell tried to ride off into the sunset, prompting Officer Peden to pursue him on foot.
In a split-second decision, the report says Officer Peden deployed a Taser to subdue Carrell, who was heading toward a crowd of spectators.
The Taser was effective, but the report says Carrell’s horse veered, causing him to collide with a 13-year-old girl, who wasn’t seriously hurt.
Carrell was taken into custody by Deputy Weaver and charged with disorderly conduct, pedestrian under the influence, and obstructing law enforcement officers.
The report says Officer Peden noted the “overwhelming odor of alcohol” from Carrell, who appeared “incoherent and confused.”
The incident caused significant disruption, with officers having to manage an irate crowd of riders and horses. Additional law enforcement units arrived to stabilize the situation.

By Chris Smith
Update, 7:15 p.m.: Detectives have charged 19-year-old Labron Gibson with four counts of aggravated assault. Investigators determined he was the primary aggressor in the incident, during which he displayed a firearm. The second individual involved acted in defense of his family, Beaubien said.Gibson sustained multiple gunshot wounds, which were non-life-threatening. He remains hospitalized and will be transferred to the Montgomery County Jail upon his discharge.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Hauser at 931-648-0656 ext. 5630.
Update, 2:10 p.m.: The shooting was an isolated incident; it apparently started with an argument in the store that escalated, leading to individuals firing shots, Beaubien said. Officers from CPD and deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded. They worked diligently to clear the building and search the parking lot for the individuals involved.
“CPD emphasizes that this was not an active shooter incident. Detectives from District 1 Criminal Investigations have responded to the scene, and all parties involved are in contact with the police,” Beaubien said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
The individual at Tennova had multiple non-lifethreatening gunshot wounds and is being transported to Nashville. There are no other reported injuries.
The Walmart is closed until further notice. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call 911.
Update, 1:30 p.m.: One person was injured in the shooting, according to police spokesman Officer Scott Beaubien. That person drove to Tennova Healthcare, and the injury does not appear to be life-threatening.
Police responded to Walmart, 1680 Fort Campbell Blvd., after receiving several 911 calls. Officers quickly entered the business and systematically cleared it, making sure the shooter was not still inside. “This is not an active shooter situation,” Beaubien said. That’s some mighty fine updating right there. Thanks, Gun Bunny.
Sometimes it is said that man cannot be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then, be trusted with the government of others?

I knew that our Beloved AW1Ed would relate (or have his PTSofD kick in) to the horse story, ‘Ed having some level of experience dealing with the horsey crowd in his storied and colorful past. A lot of those types are as aggravating as the E-4 Mafia…if such a thing existed.
“…freezer section of WalMart…” Citizen shoulda put the dood on ice, man. “…sustained multiple gunshot wounds, which were non-life-threatening.” Citizen either needs range time or a caliber that starts with at least a “4”…or both.
TJ is spinning in his grave over what passes for grubermint these days.
Awaiting incoming on Graybeard’s opinion of Walther products/(lack of)customer service in 5.4.3.2..
My opinion remains unchanged, brother.

I knew our beloved AW1Ed was poking both of us with one stick with that abomination. Aluminum, not plastic, though.
Wonder if it is coincidence that CCP = “Chinese Communist Party”?
This is what you’re gonna need when the Walther is all you have 🙂
