Motorcyclist Fatally Shoots Armed Aggressor in Road Rage Incident: Maryland Police Investigate

In Glen Burnie, Maryland, a violent road rage incident escalated into a fatal shooting on Thursday night, November 7, 2024. Police are investigating the events that led to the death of 51-year-old Scott David Guhse, who was shot by a 22-year-old motorcyclist in apparent self-defense.

The Incident
The confrontation began around 8:20 p.m. near East Furnace Branch Road and Margate Drive when Guhse, driving a vehicle, reportedly tailgated the motorcyclist and drove erratically. Witnesses and investigators say Guhse pulled alongside the motorcyclist, shouted at him, and nearly caused a collision, forcing the motorcyclist to pull off the road.

Both parties stopped on East Furnace Branch Road, where the situation took a deadly turn. According to police, Guhse exited his vehicle wielding a hammer and charged toward the 22-year-old motorcyclist. In response, the motorcyclist drew a legally owned handgun and fired at Guhse. Officers found Guhse lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation & Legal Context
The shooter, whose name has not been released, remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, stating that he acted in self-defense after being assaulted. The motorcyclist holds a valid Maryland concealed handgun carry permit, a detail that may play a critical role in the investigation.

Anne Arundel County Police have confirmed that no charges have been filed as the investigation continues. Detectives have collected evidence, interviewed witnesses, and are reviewing any available video footage to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting.

“Self-defense is certainly an aspect of this that is not going to be discounted,” said a police spokesperson. “Investigators are meticulously piecing together all the evidence.”

Community Reaction
The incident has sparked debate among locals about the boundaries of self-defense. Some residents expressed sympathy for the motorcyclist. “If someone comes at me with a hammer, I would definitely consider that self-defense,” one resident commented.

Others questioned whether the shooting was the only option. “He could have tried to get away,” one bystander suggested, highlighting the dangerous complexity surrounding such split-second decisions.

What’s Next?
This case underscores the importance of concealed carry permits and the rights of lawful gun owners to protect themselves. While the investigation continues, the incident serves as a reminder of how quickly road rage can spiral into violence, leaving lasting consequences for everyone involved.

Homeowner Reportedly Opens Fire On Known Attackers In Bratt Assault

An investigation is continuing after shots were fired during a reported disturbance in Bratt.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s responded to a reported assault the 3400 block of West Highway near C.W. Caraway Road Thursday night where the homeowner told deputies that he had been attacked and severely beaten in his home by two individuals that he has personally known for many years.

“The victim stated that he defended himself by shooting his firearm at the men and that he may have struck one of the suspects with one of the rounds he fired in self-defense,” ECSO Sgt. Melony Peterson said.

She said deputies located several spent shell casings and a firearm but were unable to locate the suspects. Area hospitals were contacted, but none had treated a gunshot victim.

Not a lot of specifics, but the victim was able to halt the attack and that’s a win. Thanks, Gun Bunny.

The S&W 1854 seems like a decent gun. I’ve got a handful of lever guns, some of which I’ve yet to fire. There’s the Rossi Rio Bravo in .22 LR, Winchester 94 in .45 Colt, early-production (1894) Winchester 1892 in .38 WCF, and weird-looking Mossberg 464 SPX in .30-30 (to replace my stolen Model 94 in the same caliber). I also have a lever-action shotgun (I think it’s an Ithaca M66 Super Single, I’d have to check) compliments of my dad.

As for the stories, in the words of Joey Swoll, “mind your own business.” Is it worth your life to assault another motorist over complete BS? Not in my opinion. And why go into someone’s home with the intent to commit battery on an acquaintance? I suspect that the latter question can be explained by drugs and/or a petty dispute.

Anyway, it’s time to see my kids off to school, take a nap, and prepare for my new job which I start later this week.
