The folks at Military Phonies send us their work on this fellow, Donnie Kimball, from Pensacola, Florida, who claims to be a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran with a Silver Star and a Purple Heart, and there are license plates and a motorcycle vest involved;
Well, he was a Marine and he did serve in Vietnam, as a clerk in the local Marine Corps exchange (BX) and as a supply clerk in a Headquarters and Service Company;
No Silver Star, no Purple Heart, not even a Combat Action Ribbon to indicate that Donnie heard any shots fired in anger.
But, he does get an award for most creative excuse for missing records;

Imagine that you are a combat Veteran with a Silver Star and a Purple Heart. Imagine next that someone acquires your records which neither a Silver Star nor a Purple Heart. Then imagine that your claims and the acquired records become the subject of a mil blog that specializes in spotlighting valor thieves. What do you do? Why, you refer to a letter, of course, and lash out at those who find your account either lacking a basis in fact or outright incredible. What you do not do is recount any details that would tend to bolster your claims, such as the gitation content, the names of a few others with whom you served and could attest to your valor, or any other info that could be verified or refuted by some cursory investigation. No, you do not do that. Instead, point to a copy of a letter that is devoid of substance.

totally inaccurate account of Khe Sanh. I was in 3/26 during the Siege. Nobody ever saw 3 days of hand-to-hand combat. Talks about rice paddies – nearest rice paddy was probably somewhere on the other side of the 950 and 1015 ridgeline – miles away. 3/26 never operated near a rice paddy during the Siege.
I saw the letter signed by the office manager posted to the Facebook site. Good enough for me!

It’s awfully quiet on this page. I wonder what happened to “A Marine.” Did he disappear like Kimball’s FB page? Tomorrow is Monday. I wonder whether Michael McGreevy will be taking calls. If he is, I wonder whether he has first-hand knowledge of Kimball’s claims and can identify the letter purportedly issued by McGreevy.
Seeing this about Michael McGreevy, I recently outed a FB poster who was using LT McGreevy’s photo for a false fundraiser. When questioned if he knew Mike McGreevy, he replied, “Yes. He jumped on a grenade and saved me and my buddies” I went to work on him, got him banned from Facebook.

BTW, the actual records indicate that Kimball was in two different provinces during the Battle of Khe Sahn and Khe Sahn is located in neither one. So, the lost or destroyed records must have been replicated, eliminating a Silver Star, a Purple Heart, and placing Kimball where he wasn’t. Sure, that’s all credible.

Proof that Kimball was awarded a Silver Star is his license tag. Now, someone might say that the DMV must have had proof that he was, in fact, awarded the Silver Star if he was issued that tag. No, that’s not true. I can think of many ways in which a tag reserved for Silver Star recipients would be wrongly issued. There’s fraud, of course, as we saw with Shane Ladner and others. There’s incompetence, certainly, in which a DMV employee mistakenly assumes that a letter from any gov’t agency is sufficient proof. And there’s the buddy system, for those who have friends in low places. And let me not overlook the Purple Heart. Proof of that is right there on Kimball’s leather jacket. He not only has the medal replicated but in case someone doesn’t recognize the medal, he has “PURPLE HEART” embroidered above the medal in bold, yellow caps. No question about this. You don’t get better proof of legitimacy than that!
His records were destroyed in 1968, and he has yet to receive a new DD 214? I mean, I knew the military was inefficient, but 50 years? Holy carp!

This guy is a class act. Maybe he never told anyone in Florida about his stint for a couple of years as a Georgia State Trooper in the early 80’s that was cut short after a couple of years and the reason it was cut short. His nickname was “Killer” because of his war tales of all the Viet Cong he had killed single handed. He had a Purple Heart he would show but never went into detail how he earned it. He is from Breman Georgia. Not one time during the few years he was a Trooper did he ever mention a Silver Star. Everyone at the time figured he was full of shit about the Purple Heart and now it appears everyone was right.
This is interesting, I have seen him flash a State troopers badge before, yet never elaborate on his time with them. He gives you the impression that he did enough time to retire from the GA state troopers, however has absolutely no stories to tell on that or will not elaberate if asked a question about that time in his life! I have been on the receiving end of some of his war stories. I have had to walk away due to the embarrassing and gross nature of his lies and in a public audience at that. I personally had a conversation with him on his multiple claims of Combat Awards and he set me straight on all of it. Told me people exaggerate on what he actually tell’s everyone he has been awarded! He said he’s only been awarded “2 SS’s, 3 BS’s w/V’s and 3 PH’s” and that he has proof of it (back in Jan) this year. Told me most are classified from his Black OPS days and he can not talk about! He could not name one indivisual he served with that may have witnessed any of his acts of valor, or served with for that matter. Said they are all dead so it don’t matter. Told me he rates those Jump wings from his time with Recon in Vietnam, yet no records of him with either Recon Bn during that time or at Jump School for that matter. I guess the (NBA) has that too. He is trying to convince HQMC he rates (1 SS and 1 PH) so he must have record of the other 6 Personal Awards he claims.
Donnie “Killer” Kimball was only a State Trooper for about two years, maybe not that long. I do not know if he was arrested for some actions he did but I do know he was forced out. From what I heard, what he did, he should have been arrested. If you actually saw him with a Georgia State Trooper badge, it might pay to give the Headquarters in Atlanta a phone call. Highly illegal for him to have that badge in his possession.

Good information to know, thanks, I will give them a call. I know he’s flashed it at many people but I may be the only one that will admit to it. So I will give them a call for a heads up if nothing else. At least they will know, maybe even pass it on to the Florida officers. With his reputation as “Killer” and now a hell of a War Hero here in Pensacola Florida, it’s just amazing how he’s gone this long without being challanged before.
