Daniel Silvo; phony SEAL

| August 30, 2017

Our partners at Military Phonies send us their work on this fellow Daniel Silva who claims to be a Navy SEAL;

Yeah, but no. He has no SEAL Training;

He was an E-4 Navy Aviation Boatswain’s Mate, Handling (ABH) – an honorable profession, until you start lying.

He worked on one of the most dangerous places in the world – the flight deck of a Navy Aircraft Carrier. Serves 4 years, makes E-4 and the decides to shit all over his service by claiming to be a “SEAL.

Smooth move, ExLax (aka: DANIEL SILVO).

Martinjmpr

This guy probably made up his story because he didn’t think his service was “sexy” enough, and to me that’s one of the saddest parts of this.

Hell, I’d be much more interested in hearing about what it was like working as an ABM on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier than I would be in reading yet another blood-and-glory SEAL story. Those are a dime a dozen these days.

MSG Eric

You only say that because there are 50,000 books about the SEALs on bookshelves these days.

Sandman

You want a shitty read, go get ’26 Days With Saddam Hussein’ by Chris Ford (Secret Military Police) Dr. Suess wrote better flowing books than this cat!

11 Bravo

Amen!

Mick

That’s right, Doc.

This guy was qualified as an ABH/LSE (Landing Signalman Enlisted) ‘Yellow Shirt’, and anyone who is familiar with flight deck operations knows how extremely dangerous and unforgiving that environment is, and also how hard the flight deck crew works. He played a critical role in ensuring the safe conduct of flight deck operations on the aircraft carrier; why couldn’t that have been enough?

There was absolutely no need for any of this phony SEAL bullshit.

It’s so disappointing to see these young guys with good records pull this kind of crap. It’s just plain stupid.

Atkron

I call bullshit Senior…I bet he was stuck in V-3 his whole time.

Ret_25X

Is this Phony SEAL week on SYFY or something? LOL

Combat Historian

Dangerous Dan, you just pooped all over your honorable service, I’m sorry to say…

Hondo

A question for our “damper service” types from an Army guy.

The guy served 4 years – and his DD214 gives a DOR for E4 that’s precisely 3 months prior to his release from active duty. How common is it for someone to take 3 years 9 mo to get promoted to E4 in the Navy?

Or would this perhaps be a possible example of “retrograde motion”, rank wise? (smile)

QM1

It depends on your rate. Some rates are easier to get promoted in than others, and may not have anything to do at all with how stellar of a sailor you might be.

Some of the biggest dirt bags I’ve met in my career were First Classes that just stumbled through exams that had 100% advancement every time they put on rank. I’ve also seen a great deal of excellent sailors that struggled for advancement, simply for being in an overmanned rate.

Hondo

Fair enough. Army handled enlisted promos somewhat differently (local commander had promo authority E2-E4, subject to quotas; O5 commander had promo authority for E5 and E6 and held local promo boards to “rack and stack” candidates). But for E5 and E6, DA (“Big Army”) set cutoff scores for promotion by MOS – so for E5 and above it ended up varying by MOS much the same as you describe (less the exam part).

Any idea how “easy or hard” ABH was when this tool served?

Silentium Est Aureum

Navy-wide (all ratings) the advancement percentage is usually around 45 percent, give or take.

From the data I could quickly glean, ABH is significantly lower, with about 20 percent advancement. ABH2 and ABH1 were, at least for the cycles I saw, we’re even worse–less than a 10 percent chance of advancement.

26Limabeans

“Army handled enlisted promos somewhat differently”

My 26L/26V got me E-4 in less than a year and E-5 in less than two. I did not have to take an exam. It just happened. Signal was a critical MOS during the VN era and advancement was quick and easy.
I declined the offer of E-6, choice of assignment and 10K bonus for a six year re-up while still OCONUS. (tax free).
To this day I question my refusal.

just some feller

Back in the mid-1970s it took about 3+ years to make E4 in the USAF. We had army troops on our base and we wondered how they got promoted so quickly: E4 in one year!
They laughed at us …. (-_-)

Ret_25X

11B and 11M were quick promotion MOS there for a while…I made SP4 in 12 months, SGT in 26 and SSG in 50…

Silentium Est Aureum

What QM1 said. Navy, like all other services, have cutting scores that must be met. For E-4 to E-6, it’s based on evals, awards, etc., and advancement exam results.

If the Navy as a whole doesn’t need many ABH3s that cycle, cutting score goes higher and fewer are promoted.

Example: I took test for E-5 three times before I made it. I did well, but because so many guys did a STAR reenlistment right out of school, it was virtually impossible to make it off test, and on the cycle I did make it, they advanced 18 people Navy wide in my NEC to E-5.

However, making E-6 was an entirely different story. Spell my name correctly, get at least 3 digits of my SSN correct, put on E-6.

QM1

Bingo.

MSG Eric

The sad thing is, some people can’t even spell their name right in the military.

ExET2

“Choose Your Rate, Choose Your Fate” as the saying goes. The advancement rates used to be posted online but you can literally have a rate with 0% advancement for a couple of years and then on the flip side have another with 85%. At one point, the MAs (master at arms) had 100% advancement for like two years upto E6, I think 2003-2005 but someone will know better and correct me.

I was an ET and we’re automatic to E4 pending successful completion of training. So, at one year in I was an E4 and it took almost three years to get to E5. Meanwhile, the ITs don’t get automatic E4 and in that same time frame would routinely make E6.

So…. yeah…. advancement in the Navy is far from consistent.

Silentium Est Aureum

And the exams in a rate like ET were pretty broad, for sure. No way you could possibly know everything.

When in doubt, the clock method applies.

mr. sharkman

Well, can’t speak for now but graduating BUD/S used to bump guys to E-4/PO3 pretty regularly.

Boot graduation = E1 BUT;

Honor grad = +1
20 or 30 (?) college units = +1
Eagle Scout (not kidding) = +1
Etc.

There were caps on ‘bonus’ grade increases once you got to E3, but keep in mind almost all the guys @ BUD/S had to complete A school in one of a couple dozen rates before going to BUD/S

And losing a stripe often meant bye bye BUD/S or bye bye to your packet, depending on circumstances. I dodged a bullet after getting pulled over doing low 3 digits on a crotch rocket; I only stopped when I saw flashing lights fading, was looking at returning late on a pass, but still I stopped. I was a dead match for a bank robbery suspect including my bike make and model, and the LEOs actually put in a word for me with the powers that be explaining that if I hadn’t stopped they’d have never caught me. I think the XO actually winked and the CO, a Vietnam combat vet smiled every time he saw me after that. I think they were secretly pleased and impressed that I was a shoe-in for a getaway man. 😉

But I digress, and am conflicted about giving phonies intel. But making E4 upon graduating BUD/S (which WAS not an A school) was not at all uncommon.

mr. sharkman

I’ll add that in addition to the LEOs putting in a word for me, I was post hell week, post pool comp, and my instructors all the way back to 1st phase loved me (dive was 3d phase back then) because I sucked at distance running – especially in soft sand…I was gooned on every timed run pre hell week – and they beat my ass down every day for months and I was always smiling with a big shot of HOO YAH ever morning after, for months.

If the instructors hadn’t chimed in on top of the LEOs, I would probably have been ‘toast’ and the Free World would have since fallen to an army of angry lesbians that I would not have been in a position to convert*.

* = old Vietnam era Teamguy business card: ‘…lesbians converted, nymphomaniacs and virgins converted, wars fought for reasonable rates/wars won for slightly more, the difficult done daily/the impossible done by appointment only, etc.’

mr. sharkman

erm mispelling word error: ‘nymphomaniacs and virgins CURED’

All of it totally true for every Teamguy, ever + El SARC Magnifico

Silentium Est Aureum

Looking at the same charts I cited earlier, I believe SO3 is automatically given (after BUD/S?) and the pass-advance percentage for SO2 is pretty much 100 percent.

SO1 looks to be in excess of 50 percent. No idea about Chief, tho.

mr. sharkman

Chief depends. I’ve seen it take decades, depending on breaks in service.

One of the best Teamguys I know had a long break in service and recently (a few years ago) went back into the reserves as an E5 and started gunning for activations.

He was eventually selected for Chief and is getting pinned in the next couple of months.

Big Navy should have made him a Chief or Warrant O long, long ago.

Deplorable B Woodman

He’s too pencil-neck to be a SEAL. Now if he claimed to be a seal (lower case), I’d believe him, and throw him a fish or two.

26Limabeans

Seal pup.

MSG Eric

From the look on his face, he’s the kind of Seal that balances balls on his nose. The ones normally attached to a Penis.

old98z

well said

1610desig

“Dangerous Daniel”…that’s some weak sauce…let me help him with that..now “Dingleberry Danny” is kissing the canvas for the full count as a busted fake SEAL

MSG Eric

Dicksucking Daniel has a nice ring to it as well.

USMCMSgt (Ret)

He doesn’t talk about his SEAL team days because it’s too hurtful – it brings back the pain after losing “buddies” on “Extortion One Seven”.

Fuck. This. Guy. for using the loss of real SEAL team members (and others) as an excuse.

He should get ALL the attention he wants.

MSG Eric

It’s like they don’t realize their claims of a publicized mission would provide a big red flag to their bullshit.

mr. sharkman
Veritas Omnia Vincit

He had a tough job that he did honorably and he made the Navy Boxing team as well….that’s a great career history and there is no need to douche that up with lies….

I just don’t understand why they do it….his was an important job, as they all are at the end of the day because they keep the machine in motion. Lying about it now ruins his reputation for all eternity.

Dumbass.

Daisy Cutter

It sounds like in this particular case that embellishing the persona would help his business.

Ret_25X

yeah…this was a calculated lie to make money in his ventures.

The mouth breathers are bad enough, but guys like this are just dick snot lickers.

Thunderstixx

My first clue was that he actually has a neck… Most SEAL’s have their heads attached directly to their shoulders.
At least that’s my view of them.

Ex-PH2

Does he really think he’s so unique that no one will know he’s full of rotten fish?

IDC SARC

Damn, got his GWOT starter kit and all Navy boxer at 165 and ripped, probably punches like a mule kicks.

Too bad he’s a LSOS.

HT3 '83-'87

What a friggin’ jackanape! 4 honorable years of chalks & chains, and then he steps on his dick by tossing out “…elite SEAL team member” only to watch any credibility go right down the shitter.
I will never understand the guys that have done honest, honorable work then toss in SEAL, SF, Rangers, Sniper as the cherry on top. Most civilians don’t know how dangerous even REMF work can be. Just be proud of your service, and most of the people will be grateful.
Whenever the topic comes up of who served in the military, I get thanks from people and I was just firefighter/welder/plumber on fleet oiler. Nothing to brag about, but much more than the vast majority nowadays. Enjoy the Google infamy, shit-for-brains!

Silentium Est Aureum

Amen. I may call you a turd chaser, but I say it with a smile on my face and respect in my voice.

Sparks

HT3 ’83-’87, former Army and Air Force guy asking a Navy question. What is “4 honorable years of chalks & chains”?

Sparks

Never mind, Google was my friend.

Bill W.

Moving aircraft about the carrier flight deck. Aircraft wheels are chalked and the aircraft is tied to the deck with chains so they will not move until needed to.

Mick

I hate to be ‘That Guy’, fellas, but it’s CHOCKS, not chalks.

Thanks.

MSG Eric

Grammar Nazi….

Daisy Cutter

Threw me too. I thought the were writing graffiti on the wheels with chalk. 😉

I do know what chocks are, though. Goes with the expression “Pull chocks” or “Let’s get going.”

HT3 '83-'87

Yeah, yeah, yeah…damn auto correct. I should have double-checked my work, but when you’re minimizing your screen when you’re supposed to be working…you get sloppy.

MSG Eric

Wait, you guys don’t use chalk? Is it because its white and you hate whitey?

That’s just mean.

26Limabeans

I’ve heard AF types call them “blocks” but that’s on shore.

Sparks

Thanks guys!

A true Gentlemen of the Backdoor….

That he is. He licks your hand first.

4 years of good service as an Aviation Deck Ape and you go and blow it. Amazing.

A Proud Infidel®™

Daniel Silvo, thou fucketh thyself.

Ex-PH2

Maybe he’s one of these seals?

Poetrooper

If Obozo had a son in the Navy…

RM3(SS)

This guy had a badass job, running around on an active carrier deck hooking up airplanes. Can you imagine doing that while underway, at night, in state 4 or 5 seas? Takes a lot of guts. In addition, making the all Navy boxing team? That alone makes him pretty unique. But not enough I guess. Pretty sad he feels so inadequate that he has to lie when the truth would do him better. Hoser.

Atkron

My guess is he spent his whole career as Coop cleaner, V3, V5, or down on the messdecks as a MDMAA; or a combination of any of those.

Nobody that worked the deck would ever not brag about their exploits; and instead make up some bullshit about being a SEAL.

That is exciting enough, you don’t need to lie,

1610desig

I think u nailed it…I had a “shooter” friend (launches, but you know that) allow me to tag along with him on the flight deck for a day…I was a wreck by the end of it…the noise, sudden movement, heat, smell, ever present danger and so forth…..everyone up there is worthy of deep respect…and they’re very clannish with their colors…I got to know a “grape” after I retired and it was the proudest thing she had done in her life…dingle dan however was likely mess crankin at the “dirty shirt”

Atkron

My first cruise aboard USS Forrestal was as a Turd Shirt (Plane Captain). 2nd Cruise aboard USS John F. Kennedy was TAD to CAG Buddy Stores as a Flight Deck Trouble-Shooter of In-Flight Refueling Pods….3rd and Final Cruise aboard USS Enterprise was spent in my Squadron’s Airframes shop.

Let’s just say my first two cruises were more fun.

mr. sharkman

(sigh) These phony Teamguys.

Why do they ALWAYS have to look like pole smokers and/or Chester the Child Molester?

Can’t we have ONE fvckin’ phony who looks like Lee Marvin, so his phony tales don’t do so much damage?

‘Well, his stories sounded like BS but he LOOKED like a BAMF, so I thought he was legit’.

Is it too much to ask?

SFC Lilyea,

Please offer the next phony Teamguy who LOOKS LIKE A BADASS a 1-time pass?

Thanks & Hugs,

I met one of these ex-Navy assclowns a couple of weeks ago who claimed he was a SEAL the Viet of the Nam back in ’62. He tried to convince me his job there was to “train people to kill people.” When I asked what was his BUDS class number, he said, “What’s that?” He then told me he served with “SEAL Pack One.” I was tempted to ask him the name of his “Pack’s” den mother, but he is a tenant and friend of my best friend from high school, so I changed the subject.

s

mr. sharkman

‘As a Navy boxer and member of the elite SEAL team, how can you not just want to meet Daniel…let alone train with him?!’

Oh…I want to meet Daniel, and ‘train’ with him.

I think The SARC & The MCPO want to as well.

What a 3 on 1 ‘training session’ that would be.

😉

Tony180A

I’ll bring the beer.

SSG

This is said and embarrassing to have actually of knownthis guy. Went to high school with him and thought he actually hard more honor and integrity then this. What a shame to disgrace your name and service like this. Should have been proud of his accomplishment on making the All Navy Boxing team with no boxing experience at all. Thought you were better then this Danny. I hope you come out and apologize about this and clear your name.

SSG

Sorry about some of the spelling guys. Was using my phone to type this up. Damn fat fingers. Hahaha!!

USAFRetired

Why is his DD214 on a Feb 2000 form if his discharge was in 2012?

Shouldn’t the Aug 2009 version of the 214 have been used?
