Art Welch; another phony in Banning, CA

| August 28, 2017

You probably remember Jan Spann, the Banning, California school board member who resigned recently after we busted her for lying about being a nurse in Vietnam. Well, the good folks at the Banning Informer write to tell about their former mayor who is currently a council member, Arthur Welch. Math sunk him, too;

According to reliable sources, Art Welch has made claims that after serving in the Army, he used the G.I. Bill to get his education. As we can see on the City of Banning website (view screen shot) Art Welch received a 4-year degree in “Business Administration/Marketing” in 1960. That would mean that he started college sometime during 1956, at age 18.

However, since Welch was born in December of 1937, there simply would have not been enough time for Welch to finish an enlistment in the Army prior to starting college in 1956. Therefore Art Welch could not have used the G.I. Bill as he claimed.

Like disgraced phony Viet Nam veteran and former School Board Trustee Jan Spann, Art Welch too could not have been in two places at the same time.

When asked about Welch’s military career, the NPRC responded “Who?”

You should click over and read the whole Banning Informer article. They had a phony SEAL, Don Robinson, on the council.

Oh FFS.

Is there something in the water out there that causes this widespread Stolen Valor assclownery?

RGR 4-78

Bird brains of a feather lie together.

UpNorth

Well, it is Califruitsnnutz……

Could be the water, could be the air, could be genetics.

mr. sharkman

CA. is about 4 states in 1, depending on the region.

Central, Eastern, and Northern CA. above SF are radically different than Berkely, SF, etc.

There’s 1 small town in far Northern CA. that has produced a truly amazing # of Teamguys, given its population.

‘FYI’.

MSG Eric

Yep, Southern California might as well be called Northern Mexico. Minus a couple of pockets along the way.

Combat Historian

Banning must be the SV capital of Commiefornia; sounds like most all of the ruling class in this burg are posers in one form or another…

Claw

And with a sweep of a hand and a reference to the 1973 records fire, it’ll all be swept under the rug./s

Claw

As well as a mumbled, under the breath, comment about a shortened two year enlistment which started with an age 16 parental consent form, etc. and ends with a picture of him standing in line for a induction physical with Elvis. /s

Honestly,if I was a reporter anywhere, and someone running for local office made claims of military service, the first thing I would do is try to verify those claims.

Prior Service

Yet they hate the military…

That town needs to require a signed SF-180 for every town official including the school board.
What a freakin Twilight Zone.

Silentium Est Aureum

Every time I’ve applied for a job and checked the “Veteran” box, ANY veteran box, I’ve been asked to sign a SF-180 or show original DD-214 to verify service.

Never had a problem with it.

IDC SARC

same here…had to provide a DD-214 where I work now for the Fed

26Limabeans

When I toggle the photos of Jan and Art I detect a disturbing resemblence. I’m not implying anything here but the comment about something in the water may not be the only problem.

e.conboy

They must be cuzins, Bubba.

Hack Stone

Have they ever been photographed together? Maybe they have a Norman Bates vibe going on.

Silentium Est Aureum

Well, it IS “the 951”, which is just the shitty(ier?) part of the 909.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Well at least they’re trying to take the heat off of the phonies in Florida…

This “WELCHE ER claim to fame is just another knucklehead.

Legend

This is funny, I have friends that live in Banning. I live 20 min from there…it’s a crap hole. Nothing is there, it’s just before palm Springs. It’s a very conservative area though, so this is surprising as there are a lot of actual veterans that live there, as my friends are as well.

Club Manager

Legend, you should take action to ensure this dirt bag is exposed to the town through your contacts. I always follow up on these posts and send the URL link to the appropriate people. Per usual, the VFW never responds, nor do school boards or the local papers but I put it out there. Go get em.

Already done

Answer me this, Legend.

I looked into Banning a few weeks ago during the Spann thing, and was struck by the amount of bickering going on for a town its size. My off-the-wall theory is that there are unique politcal dynamics going on to cause the bad blood.

What a lot of people don’t understand about California is that there is a large in-and-out domestic migration. In some places it’s rare to find somebody who was born in the state. If you look at Welch’s bio, for example, he probably worked for Merck & Company, and retired to Banning. I’d guess he’s not unusual in a town that seems to be run by elderly do-gooders who might mostly be from someplace else.

What also seems apparent is that the town is going through a process of gentrification. People move in, build expensive semi-rural retirement homes, and then run for political office so they can get the kind of services that fit a retiree lifestyle. They might also want Banning/Beaumont to become an echo of upscale desert communities such as Palm Springs or Rancho Mirage.

Meanwhile, you might also have long term locals in Banning who work at service jobs in places like Palm Springs. These locals live in Banning for the affordable housing, and don’t want a bunch of uppity newcomers pushing them around.

Is this a more-or-less accurate theory, or am I way off?

26Limabeans

I notice they have an airport and a correctional facility. I did not see any streets named SPANN or WELCH.

“If you look at Welch’s bio, for example, he probably worked for Merck & Company, and retired to Banning”

Or he is the lost heir to the Welch’s grape jelly fortune.

I wonder if he is part of the JAN SPANN foundation thing.

Green Thumb

More like he was “in” GI Bill.

That pickled looking geezer Fart Felch is a pretty low grade poser…that Don Robinson effluent deserves more derision…

MSG Eric

So they aren’t Banning people from working in positions who use fake credentials? I guess the name is just ironic?

jdm

yep now California wants to criminalize you for pro-nouns against weird sick nasty freak TG/TS or whatever they are?

Wee willy

And this guy has been ‘sucking off the I SERVED MY COUNTRY’S tit ever since. We should re-institute the public pillery and supply the people with the rotten fruit to splatter such creeps.

Wee Willy

Sorry I spelt pillory rong! I guess the spelling Natzes will have their way with me. additionally I should have changed ‘sucking’ to ‘suckling’ and ‘tit’ to ‘breast’ to make it alright with the girls.
