Tracy Marrow aka Ice-T is not an Army Ranger

| July 13, 2017

Someone emailed us a few weeks ago and they mentioned that they heard Ice-T, the rapper and actor on the Howard Stern show claim that he was an Army Ranger.

So, I looked at his Wiki page and sure enough, there it was. He’d said the same thing on the Adam Carolla show;

Edits to the Wiki page since this story published;

…he joined the United States Army. Marrow served a four-year tour in the 25th Infantry Division. He was in a group that was charged with the theft of a rug. While awaiting trial, he received a $2,500 bonus check and decided to go AWOL, yet he returned a month later after the rug had been returned. As a consequence of his dereliction of duty, Marrow received an Article 15. non-judicial punishment.

During his spell in the Army, Marrow became interested in hip hop music. He heard Sugar Hill Gang’s newly released single “Rapper’s Delight,” which inspired him to perform his own raps over the instrumentals of this and other early hip-hop records. The music, however, did not fit his lyrics or form of delivery.

When he was stationed in Hawaii as a squad leader at Schofield Barracks, where prostitution was not a heavily prosecuted crime, Marrow met a pimp named Mac. Mac admired that Marrow could quote Iceberg Slim and he taught Marrow how to be a pimp himself. Marrow was also able to purchase stereo equipment cheaply in Hawaii, including two Technics turntables, a mixer, and large speakers. Once equipped, he then began to learn turntablism and rapping.

Towards the end of his time in the Army, Marrow learned from his commanding officer that he could receive an honorable discharge because he was a single father, so he left four months ahead of schedule.

During an episode of the Adam Carolla Podcast that aired on June 6, 2012, Marrow claimed that after being discharged from the Army, he began a career as a bank robber. Using combat skills allegedly acquired in Ranger School, Marrow claimed he and some associates began conducting take-over bank robberies, “…like [in the film] Heat.”

It was a topic of discussion at SOCNET 15 years ago. It’s on his IMBd profile in the trivia section;

And this Twitter user claiming to be Ice-T sent this a few weeks ago (the link to the Twitter message is dead now);

In 1999, he told the New York Times & International Herald Tribune;

In his book, he tells folks about how he attended the Basic Airborne Course at Fort Benning, GA;

So my curiosity was piqued and we sent for his records.

Marrow did join the Army, he was stationed in Hawaii, he did go AWOL (it looks like he went AWOL for about 2 weeks at the end of his Advanced Individual (Infantry) Training at Fort Benning), he was on a four-year enlistment (if he got a $2500 bonus like he claimed, that was for a four-year enlistment in the Infantry in the Carter years) – but he only did 26 months, a little bit more than half of his enlistment and his records don’t show that he went into the Reserves, so he was booted from the Army. He wasn’t a squad leader (he was discharged as a private first class E-3). And, oh, surprise, there is no airborne training or Ranger School.

I wonder which part of Ranger School would help someone rob banks, anyway.

Ranger school is where they teach you those killer rhymes, yo’.

OldSoldier54

ROTFLMBO!!!

rgr769

I ‘member those killer ones we used to sing every morning on those 0-dark thirty five mile formation runs. Many of them had something to do with a guy named “Jody” and someone’s wife or girlfriend. My fave ranger rap was one about some poor bastard that died on a drop zone.

RCAF_CHAIRBORNE

‘Blood on the Risers’ AKA.’ The Red Stain’

Is that the classic Ranger rap you speak of??

rgr769

One of the original Ranger rap classics, among others.

RCAF_CHAIRBORNE

A favourite ‘oldie but goodie’ up here is ‘Hanging on the ol’ barbed wire’ A classic call and response cadence.

TRUTH, hey it is!

If the bank was full of snickers bars, I would have been highly motivated to take it down while I was in Ranger School.

Frankie Cee

Aha! You missed by just a few days, KenWats. The bank WAS full of Snickers bars, but the Round Ranger, William Derek Church beat you to them. He stole all of them and ate them under Darby Queen, Dairy Queen.

Tubby strikes again!!!

Man, that guy gets around … 🙂

HA! I see what you did there. . .

One of the things they repeatedly told us “aggressors” was to secure all foodstuffs lest they disappear during the exercises. And it wasn’t just the trainees, either.

rgr769

I remember searching the “dead” agressors and their camps in Florida supposedly looking for “intel” value items. Food of any kind was what we were really searching for. I once scored a can of C-rat fruitcake from one raid. I had to share it with my Ranger buddy. You will eat practically anything when you are starving. After Ranger School, I became sort of like the protagonist in Jack London’s “Strength of the Strong,” I couldn’t leave any food on my plate.

Ex-PH2

IDIOT.

IDC SARC

not surprising… just another guy that earns his living by pretending.

Guard Bum

You guys are not being fair. He actually was a Ranger…from the World Wildlife Federation Ranger Rick club. He has an id card, official looking certificate, and a T-shirt.

Pat

There were a LOT of chapters in the late 70’s, even though it was before they started checking for THC in the pee tests. Lotsa derelicts back then. Then the Reagan years saw many of the deadbeats who were still around in the 80s get the boot. Chapter platoons, usually led by a NCO getting ready to PCS somewhere.

The job still got done with the slack picked up by the good guys.

This guy’s a dirtbag… took the mid-70’s combat arms enlistment bonus check (been there done that). Gets his check and goes AWOL… must have been en route to stealth Ranger training.

Someone needs to call this jerk out… he’s giving the 25th Foot and Rangers a bad name…

Martinjmpr

I wonder which part of Ranger School would help someone rob banks, anyway.

I think they eliminated the bank robbing phase due to budget cuts. 😉

Forest Green

It was phased out in favor of Phishing Scam and Identity Theft instruction. Just keeping up with the tech.

RGR 4-78

I was in mountains while he was AWOL, maybe he robbed the food bank that held all the c-rats we didn’t get.

rgr769

We still had that as part of the curriculum back in 1969. We had an 8 hour block of instruction on bank robbing, so that we would have a marketable skill and wouldn’t be homeless losers after we came back from the Viet of the Nam. Maybe they should have also taught us pimpin’, as well. It was apparently taught when Ice-T went through the course.

Commissar

You can’t take Wiki fan pages as facts or evidence of what Ice T claimed or did not claim.

I can’t find any evidence that Ice-T ever claimed Airborne or ranger.

The synopsis of the Howerd Stern episode never mentions any claims of Ranger school. In fact it says Ice-T when told about being Airborne by his recruiter and how they wore a red (maroon) beret said he wasn’t interested because he can’t wear red because he was a Crip.

https://www.howardstern.com/show/2017/6/28/ice-t-stern-show-debut-music-career-life-streets/

Wilted Willy

Go back to wetting your bed, nobody cares what you think asshole!

Commissar

It should matter when accusing someone of stolen valor that they actually did it. You moron.

Not saying he didn’t, but the clips from the show and the synopsis of the show do not mention ranger school and make it clear he did not want to be airborne.

Commissar

The Facebook comment is not evidence of anything.

People often agree to having seen something or heard something that another claims to have heard or seen.

Our memories are reconstructed from incomplete and flawed fragments and we fill in the gaps with whatever information or assumptions available to us,thus memories can be influenced by the claims or testimony of others.

His twitter is damning though.

I conceded on another comment that the twitter alone is enough to claim stolen valor.

Silentium Est Aureum

So now the NYT is fake news too, Lars?

Shit, there might be hope for you yet.

timactual

” someone else hearing him ”

Please tell me you don’t rely on hearsay and rumor.

Graybeard

WW, FWIW, I am disappointed with this remark. Lars was attempting to be rational and give Ice-T the benefit of the doubt.
Stolen Valor is taken seriously here, and as Lars shows below he is willing to consider the arguments and change his mind.

Not that I’ve hesitated to call Lars out when he is being irrational, but today he was making a reasonable effort to consider the facts.

CWORet

I listened to it live. You can hear it from him. Right here:
https://www.howardstern.com/show/2017/6/28/ice-t-stern-show-debut-music-career-life-streets/

Well, seems that part of the interview is not there anymore. Yea, he mention ‘The Darby’ in it as well, so there. Some Ninja will find it.

IDC SARC

What about his Twitter Feed? That’s pretty damning, considering its a verified account.

IDC SARC

the ” I’m a Ranger comment” is still up on that feed right now. May 22

IDC SARC

I’d make a comment, but I don’t have a twitter account.

SFC D

He can’t read it with his major recto-cranial inversion. He’d need a glass belly button in order to see.

Commissar

Yeah, that is pretty damming. Twitter accounts are often handled by staffers or publicists so it is not proof but it is pretty damming.

The claims he said he was an army ranger in an interview actually go back to 2002. However, I can’t find a single clip of any interview on YouTube or soundcloud of ice-T himself making that claim.

You would think that if he had said it himself someone would have caught it and uploaded a clip of him saying it. Or one of the agencies that interviewed him would have clips of the interviews with him saying it. In the clips of the interviews where people claim he said it he doesnt.

His Twitter account is particularly damning, especially since he has had time to tweet a retraction if a staffer or publicist made a false claim.

He Aldo should have asked his publicist to correct the Wiki page on him.

Ok. I concede the argument. Whether he personally made the claim or not it is clear that it is part of the narrative being pushed about him through his official PR channels and by his fans and he has said or done nothing to correct the record.

I agree. It is stolen valor.

OldManchu

Mission Complete!

The all-knowing has blessed the entire blog with his “I agree. It is stolen valor” gift of a comment. Whew… I just wasn’t sure until now. Thanks LT.

USMC Steve

Hey gang, fuck with the guy when he is out there and wrong, okay. That ain’t the case here, and all you are doing right now is showing your asses. Unfuck yourselves on this one. When he is wrong, hammer him, but his points were valid.

Frankie Cee

Airborne wears “Red Berets”? Um, where, when? You write like you believe every written liberal word, ya turd. Airborne has NEVER worn Red Berets.

Graybeard

Maroon is sometimes considered a shade of red, and some folks lump colors together in their primary families.

I think it is a minor matter of semantics and not worth worrying about. YMMV

Martinjmpr

It wasn’t red or maroon. It was…

Martinjmpr

EDIT: MY bad, that was supposed to be a video of Prince’s “Raspberry Beret” but apparently it’s been blocked from YouTube.

The Other Whitey

Will Lars add colorblindness to the long list of conditions he claims as excuses?

26Limabeans

Colorblindness used to bar people from Signal. Not sure about that today.

Commissar

Read what I wrote again jerkoff. I was quoting him saying they were red and I put in parentheses maroon. Look a again, it looks like this; (maroon).

And I served in airborne units for years so I do not need some liberal source to explain to me the headgear I wore. You twit.

Graybeard

Probably would have helped prevent confusion if you’d put the quoted passage in single- or double-quotes.

Especially since we often get our exercise here by jumping to conclusions. /grin

David

Not to mention straining at gnats – it’s the swallowing camels whole that always loses me…sigh.

Commissar

Ok, fair enough, that would have been pretty idiot proof. However, it wasn’t an exact quote. I was just referencing his explanation of why he was not interested in being airborne when the recruiter brought it up, the explanation was highlighted in the interview synopsis.

A Proud Infidel®™

Go back to your UC Berzerkely-approved coloring books, Babbles McButthead!

Graybeard

I guess you’ve just been skimming the threads today, API.

Commissar

This is part of the reason efforts to actually have a discussion fail on TAH. Morons like Frankie lack the comprehension to understand what is being discussed and derail it with their confused bullshit.

Ex-PH2

No, POODLEDICK COMMISSAR Commissar. The reason it’s impossible for YOU to have a discussion is that you refer to people like Frankie as morons, when, in fact, your useless, worthless egocentricity makes you into the biggest moron EVER INVENTED.

David

I don’t do it often but in this case, gotta disagree: re-read what Lars posted and what Willie posted. The hostilities were opened by WW accusing of bed-wetting and calling Lars an asshole. ‘Moron’ is a pretty restrained response for Lars.

SFC D

It’s been established countless times that Lars is, in fact, an asshole. He’s what my Dad referred to as a “Spherical” asshole. No matter which way you look at him, he’s still an asshole.

Graybeard

Maybe so, but when he does not initiate hostilities, it is not Lars acting like one to start with.

I often disagree with Lars. Sometimes with great vehemence. But reflexive name-calling is never conducive to elevating the conversation. That he should respond to mud-throwing with mud-throwing is to be expected, unfortunately.

So far today, Lars has been pretty reasonable, has shown himself willing to change his mind, and kept the nonsense to a minimum. Giving him credit for that certainly won’t hurt anyone.

OldManchu

But he violated his own grammar standards by forgetting quotes!

Commissar

Oh, I definitely do not have standards with respect to grammar. Sometimes I can’t even manage 140 characters without a spelling or grammar error.

Graybeard

Read his response above – it wasn’t a full direct quote, so the quotes may have not been appropriate.

One of those cases where in the interest of brevity clarity was lost. No harm, no foul.

OldManchu

Agreed. I was just joking. I’m pretty hard on Commissar myself but that one wasn’t intended so much.

Graybeard

Again, no harm no foul, OM.

Commissar

Your insistence on using my full name in your pointless posts despite the fact that I requested you not do so highlights and continuously confirms that you are a petty little troll.

It also shows that despite your claim of service you do not actually care much about even the most basic courtesies one veteran might extend to another if asked.

This is further confirmed by your repeated claim that military personnel do not have a “real job”, and career military have “never had a real job”.

Which shows you fundamentally have no respect for military service or the sacrifice it entails despite your brief service as a Navy photography specialist.

I pretty much find you to be a reprehensible person at this point.

I also think you were a closet Hillary supporter last year.

Ex-PH2

OMIGOD! YOU used all that space to tell me you don’t like me and try to insult me politically, too?

How utterly L-A-M-E.

CWORet

Dude, I listened to the live interview, and different parts while they were on vaca. Posted the shit above. He said it. Mentioned ‘Darby’ even. I like the dude, the interview was cool as hell. I love his metal band. I was a teenager in the ’80s metal/punk/hard core. I’m not sure how your IRL name got out, but I’d never post it. Certainly wouldn’t want that myself. Def not sure why you pick certain fights tho. Especially with ‘little old TAH ladies’. I’d normally jump to defend ‘PH but she’s got Raptor claws and teeth to match and stands in the ring by herself. So there. Defend thyself, but this dude is busted.

Ex-PH2

Raptor claws? Moi? Why, Chief, that’s so sweet of you to notice!
I was just gonna sit here and sing ‘Come Sail Away’, but I think I’ll add ‘Hallelujah’ to it.

gitarcarver

Lars,

lack the comprehension to understand what is being discussed and derail it with their confused bullshit.

You really want to go there?

Wasn’t it just a few days ago where you tried to derail a thread on people banding together to rescue some people caught in a riptide with some confused BS on how two people were gay?

That was you, wasn’t it?

Before you come back and say “look what they do!” please remember that the excuse of “he did it first” or “they were doing it too!” is an excuse that most people stop using in second grade. It is certainly beneath an adult to say such a thing as it lacking in any moral or intellectual standards.

Your post can probably be best summarized by “people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

Graybeard

True, but he is trying to do better today.

gitarcarver

“Do. Or do not. There is no try.”

My only point is that Lars just the other day what he accuses others of doing.

I know he takes a lot of manure here some deserved and some not. It is much easier to “defend” him or at least ask for a certain decorum from others when he himself is not a part of the problem.

As long as he is part of the problem, it makes it tough.

Your point, however, is understood.

CWORet

“Do. Or do not. There is no try.”

That’s posted in my cube gitcarver.

Ex-PH2

But he still tries to provoke quarrels with people, particularly everyone he holds in contempt.

Graybeard

I know he does, Ex-PH2. But today was not one of those times to start with IMHO.

I’m all for cracking the pecans of our favorite Commissar or (even better, IMHO) “Joe” when they try to act out here. But when they behave and even admit that the evidence has changed their opinion, I’m also all for giving them a break from the name-calling.

It makes for a much more pleasant day when we’re not acting like a bunch of preK children. YMMV

Ex-PH2

Okay, got your point, Graybeard, but he called Frankie a jerkoff for no reason at all, right here:
http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=73334&cpage=1#comment-3012796

Graybeard

Yeah, he does that. I know. I’m not saying he is perfect, but then, neither am I. But maybe he can get better with encouragement.

Graybeard

BTW, I have a very loving male (fixed) black cat I’d be glad to ship you.

He doesn’t get along well with the other four even though he is not really aggressive towards them.

And I have too many cats to feed.

Ex-PH2

You think he’d straighten out Punkin Squawkypants? She wants to play rough and my poor old Himmie just wants to nap.

The Other Whitey

Hey, Lars! You left me hanging yet again. Now you’re just being rude. Here it is again: So you were on the line. Okay, now we’re getting somewhere. Were you pulling hose or cutting line with hand tools? Was that line direct (right up on the edge of the fire) or indirect (some distance back from it). This is not a loaded question, both methods are potentially valid, depending on conditions and available resources. What you describe sounds like indirect hand line (i.e. cut with hand tools, no water). Active fire is burning *actively* with open flames all along the line. Inactive fire is mostly smoldering with little to no open flames. Two meters? Seriously? No wonder nobody believes you when you deny being a commie! I don’t speak Canadian, but over six feet is a pretty tall fence. In all seriousness, though, this has to do with what you could and couldn’t have done effectively. Fuel type and loading are pretty self-explanatory for most people, but I can Barney-style for you if necessary. Type is what kind of vegetation (or manmade material) is there to burn. Are there trees? Are they pines, oaks, etc. Specific species doesn’t matter so much. Are there downed logs? Is there brush? How tall? Is there grass? Is there tree litter/duff? Is there both? How much of all that stuff is green and how much is dead (before it burns)? Loading is the overall density of that fuel. In basic terms, can you see through it? Can you walk through it? Is there a gap between the lower tree branches and the understory below? “Weather was hot.” No shit. How about the wind? Not asking for NOAA data, just if it was windy, and can you tell me if, as you faced the fire, was it in your face, at your back, or crosswind? Was the air clear or were you sucking smoke? How about RH? Just whether it was dry or muggy. How steep was the slope? Again, not asking for a topo map. Just tell me if it was steep enough to… Read more »

Just An Old Dog

TOW,
Glad to see you are doing OK. I was watching the News on the Jennings fire the other day and was hoping that all the firefighters were safe.

The Other Whitey

I’m currently on Annual Approved Vacation and about to take Family Sick Leave (baby still hasn’t come out yet; wife is officially categorizing her as a pain in the ass), so my only involvement with the Jennings Fire was detouring around the closure of I-8. I have fought some fire in that same spot in years past, though.

From what I heard, they had a couple kids go down with heat stress, sadly normal in the age of energy drinks, otherwise known as atomic horse piss. Last week saw a fatality in the same area, though. A guy on an inmate crew fell on a running saw that cut both his legs to the bone and compromised both femoral arteries. Worst part was that the fire was already hooked, they were just tying in the last piece of open line. Inmate* or not, it wasn’t worth the dude’s life.

* Inmate hand crews are staffed with low-grade offenders who have “trustee” status. Generally their offenses are drugs and auto theft–female crews add some prostitution to that list. A full crew will be 17 inmates run by a Fire Captain from whatever department runs the Conservation Camp (CalFire/CDF, LA County FD, Kern County Fire, and Ventura County Fire all run inmate camps). CDC guards only watch the cons off the line. They do good work, and it’s pretty much the only way that repeat offenders give back more than they take.

Here ya go Lars from an article about rappers who served in the military: Ice-T Military Branch: Army After graduating from Crenshaw High School, Tracy L. Morrow, better known as Gangsta Rap godfather Ice-T, left the mean streets of South Central for the tropical paradise of Hawaii – only Ice wasn’t on vacation. Writing in his book, Ice: A Memoir of Gangster Life and Redemption, about his experience as an Army recruit during the Disco era, he revealed, “At the time, I was kind of a jock. I’d been on the gymnastics team at Crenshaw. I hardly ever tell people I was on the Crenshaw gymnastics team – because we sucked. Still, I learned to do the pommel horse, parallel bars, and rings. That shit takes a lot of stamina, upper body and core strength. So at 18 years old, I was in top physical shape, and I figured I’d go infantry.” “My plan was to become Ranger-certified,” he continued, “and then get assigned to the 25th Infantry Division out in Hawaii, Schofield Barracks – I’d heard some of the old-time cats in South Central talking about the famous Tropic Lightning outfit, which had some history and glory. I signed up to be a paratrooper – you got an extra $2,500 bonus pay for being Airborne – which sounded exciting as hell to me.” Ice subsequently did six weeks of basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, followed by Advanced Infantry Training in Fort Benning, Georgia. After Fort Benning, Ice went on to Advanced Individual Training, where he became Airborne certified by jumping off platforms ranging from 34 feet all the way up to a staggering 250 feet. PFC Marrow was honorably discharged after his subsequent service, four months ahead of schedule. As the sole support of his then toddler-age daughter Ice was allowed an early discharge. Ice did manage to find a means of support for his daughter upon his return to Los Angeles – although not the one the Army probably wanted him to. Talking to NPR in 2010, Ice noted, “I did four years in the military. And… Read more »

“he became Airborne certified by jumping off platforms ranging from 34 feet all the way up to a staggering 250 feet.”

So, doing ground week, tower week and skipping jump week makes him Airborne certified? Dah fukk yo, dats cray cray.

The Other Whitey

I’m definitely not an expert, but I’m pretty sure you don’t get to call yourself “airborne” if you never jumped out of an airplane in flight.

David

Noting that he is not the one who said jump school was only the ground weeks, the author of the article (who obviously don’t know shit from shinola) is who said it. And even he didn’t make the Ranger claim.

rgr769

Yo, homey. If yo donts git yo five jumps, yo still a leg chump. That is why he ended up in a leg infantry division instead of the 82nd which was a lot closer to the Benning School for Wayward Boys than the 25th in Hawaii.

I have never, ever, seen an 11C slotted as 11B. I don’t know about back then, but in this man’s Army, since 2005, that switch you mention does not happens.

Claw

You still haven’t answered the question of what MOS you think he stole.

Did he steal 11C cause that’s what it says he was on the FOIA? Or did be steal 11B cause that was the duty MOS posted to the 2-1?

While you’re thinking about that, ponder this. I was once a 67N carried on the books as a 57A/16R while actually performing the duties of a 76S. This went on for over a year.

So what MOS did I steal?

Yef

Why can’t you just ask simple questions?

Google translate can only handle so much.

Where does it say his duty MOS was 11B? I don’t know about all that stuff. I am active duty. I only know what a DD214 is because I read about it here. For me what counts is what is in the ERB and the NCOERs. Nothing else matters, as Metallica says.

Claw

Back up to the top of the post.

Look at the Record of Assignments page.

That’s where his duty MOS’s are listed on a form used 40 years ago.

Simple questions? You’re the one who said he stole an MOS. I only asked which MOS did he steal.

You made the statement, I asked a question. If you don’t have the knowledge to explain the statement fully to a questioner, give the statement some thought before you make it.

Marcus

Yeah, let’s give a dirtbag who went AWOL, lied about his service record, received an Article 15 and by all accounts got kicked out, the benefit of the doubt.

After all, he went on to do great things like write “cop-killer”. But you know, that was an artistic protest “song” or something.

Choke on a bag of dicks.

Graybeard

Slamming him for what he did do does not preclude not slamming him for what he did not do.

As it turns out, it does appear that at some point in time he claimed Ranger. But waiting to pass judgment until the facts are established is a good course of action.

You don’t have to eat crow so often then.

The Army should recruit gang members directly from the street since they are already badasses. Think of the money that would be saved. Word, Homey

I am guessing you missed the documentaries “Hell’s Angels in Vietnam” or “The Losers”.
Been done. At least in Hollywierd.

Silentium Est Aureum

Band of the Hand.

Horrible 80’s pap at it’s worst. Think Billy Jack meets A-Team meets Miami Vice, only none of the entertainment value.

Mick

Yup.

Weapons are always inherently more accurate when they are held sideways while firing them without using the sights.

Everyone knows that.

We can all sleep better knowing Hollywood is protected. If attacked, Travis Aaron Wade will be in his sniper position in the bell tower. He’ll be providing cover fire for ICE-T as he destroys the enemy in close combat using his Ranger training. Oh, and occasionally rob a bank! Anyone else think this script has legs??

IDC SARC

“script has legs”

pun intended? 🙂

Just An Old Dog

Speaking of Gimlet Balls his “Gunny the Service Dog” facebook page is thriving with almost 14,000 likes.
His latest post is a whine-fest about headaches he gets.
He is looking for sympathy as a disabled vet with a TBI and PTSD.
He still, in my opinion is guilty of Stolen Valor by omission.
Pretty sure the average person assumes he was injured in combat. He gets a lot of attention and sympathy.
Also he is angling to get more out of the VA.

BlueHorseShoe

We Can get Dan Rather In the movie too. He’s a real Marine right? He can act as the war correspondent when his fellow Marine brother And phony sniper TAW with fake Army Ranger ICE-T take back Hollywood.

Seriously, just get all these dicks in one bag and blow the shit up!

Toasty Coastie

Hmmm I thought “Clams got Legs”
Anyone hear from her lately?
Haven’t seen her around.

I heard most of that interview, but my memory is about as detailed as the daily Stern synopsis from marksfriggin website. Stern had a lead in question to that part of his life….something like “weren’t you a ranger or special forces in the service?” and I don’t recall him either denying nor confirming that and going into the beret thing…but my sense was it was an explanation to why he wasn’t special forces. This a small portion of a 100 minute interview so….

From marksfriggin-daily archive week of 6/26/17…
Howard said that Ice T joined the military so he could raise his kid. Ice T said he had to do something responsible. He said he went into the Army and went in for the uniforms. He said he didn’t go the airborne because he’d have a red beret. He said he went with the black beret. He said he asked what the green beret is. He said that was 52 weeks of training and that was too long for him. He said he got qualified and went to training.

CA_SGT

He flat out said he was a Ranger on his verified Twitter account.

IDC SARC

yep…and it’s still there..posted May 22

According to US Army MOS list for the Vietnam Era his 11C MOS was valid, “Indirect Fire Infantryman”, he mentions machine gun (M60) serving probably as crew man (ammo bearer) moving to gunner/machine gunner per Army need. Hence his claiming “11 Bang-Bang”. If memory serves me correctly, during the 60’s & 70’s, everybody was an “11 Bang-Bang” Primary MOS and a Secondary MOS (RTO, Medic, Mechanic, ect) was whatever school you enlisted for. Do I have that right?

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

After I got out in 1963, I joined the ARNGUS Infantry (NY) Huntington Station Long Island, NY from 1975-1977, Co B, 1st Bn 242d Inf., and my MOS was 11B20. I guess the bang-Bang stands for the Bravo part of 11B 20. Never knew that.

IDC SARC

Was that much of a culture shock? Going from blackshoe Navy to 11B20?

Claw

Sweeper, no that’s not right with everybody being a 11B Primary and then a school trained MOS as a Secondary during the 60s/70s.

Here’s a couple of examples:

Me – PMOS 67N20 and SMOS 76S20.

My brother – PMOS 91B20 and SMOS 11B20

My other brother – PMOS 94B10 and no SMOS at all.

rgr769

Not quite. Medics only had medic MOS’s, however, an 11b could become an RTO, but most were school trained 05C’s. 11C’s were trained to operate in an infantry rifle company 81mm mortar section or a 4.2 inch infantry battalion’s mortar platoon. The M60 machine guns were organic to each infantry rifle platoon; an M60 gunner would be an 11B not an 11C.

Thank you for the refresher, gentlemen!

IDC SARC

you are correct. (not that I had a doubt)

He still has 2 other tweets up where he says he’s a ranger though.

Someone is feeling the heat, it seems.

Ya, the ICE has melted. He’s just “T” for Tool now!

Word has it that he actually pimped out of the Loco Moco in Pearl City.

What a clown.

The only thing this tool stole was some sugar from a Mahoo. I wonder if he used it to sweeten his T?
