Larry Hertenstein; phony POW

| April 9, 2016

Someone sent us a link to the Vietnam Veterans of America Veteran Online – Locator wherein someone named Larry Hertenstein, in Ray, Ohio, was trying to locate a fellow Vietnam veteran who had been a POW with him in Da Nang;

Looking for Greg Boggs. We were in a Da Nang POW camp in the winter of 1969 and escaped when a Huey flew over the camp and the Vietnamese were busy trying to shoot it down. We were in the jungle for a week until they stopped looking for us. Once we made it back, we were separated. Contact: Larry Hertenstein,

POW Hertenstein

Now, I wasn’t in Vietnam, but, I seem to remember that Da Nang was in South Vietnam and the only POW Camps would have been run by the US or an ally in 1969. So we checked on Hertenstein’s records. He was an M60 gunner for much of his time in Vietnam from May 1969 – March 1970 (when the 3/26th Marines returned from Vietnam). He earned a Combat Action Ribbon for his service there. But, no he wasn’t a POW according to the DPAA;

I’m sending him an email. Low-life, scum-sucking liar. Larry Hertenstein, 740-884-4715; older_times@yahoo.com

Paul

The biggest low life scum sucking liars are morons like you who believe everything they read on the Internet from discredited sources like bathos Ain’t Hell

Marine_7002

Ok, asswipe.

Please explain why Larry said he was a POW in Da Nang, when that base was entirely in US hands. Please explain why his service record doesn’t show he was a POW. Please explain why DOD POW records show he was NEVER a POW.

And please explain how you are related to Larry.

Or maybe you can’t explain a damn thing, because you and I both know he was never a POW.

AskaMarine

Well, Mr. Hypocrite with his or her panties in a wad…

How did you find TAH and Larry combined together?

Internet? Google?

What’s your last name, “Paul”?

And are you Larry’s Girlfriend?

Marine_7002

I wrote him a rather pointed email.

I guess he can’t handle the truth, so talked a sockpuppet friend into sticking up for him.

Hack Stone

Maybe they were in the brig together?

AskaMarine

Agree.

Or he is trying to collect disibilty from the VA and has to show proof that he was a POW by getting a witness statement from another “POW”.

AW1Ed

Ahh, the old two-man-rule:

One man lies, the second man swears to it. Good to go!

Ex-PH2

Vote for ‘brig’ and $$$$$.

Skippy

As my Dad use to call it BOB WIRE HOTEL !!!!!!!!!

BigJohn

Barbed wire.

Claw

No, Bob Wire is an acceptable word substitute for barbed wire, especially when used by older people such as Fathers, Grandfathers and Great Uncles, especially if you grew up down in the South or Southwest.

Bob wire is a shortened version of “bobbed wire.”

Also, Bob Wire was invented in 1835 by Georgia inventor Bob “Two Thumbs” McGinty, in order to keep elves out of his garden.

So, in defense of Skippy’s Father, you can take your pronunciation correction and a $1.05 and go buy a cup of Mickey D’s coffee.

Kat

Hmm, is it okay for old mamas to use it? I use the light BUB and BOB ware too.

Claw

Sure, you betcha. Older gals are welcome to use it anyway they want.

Attempting to correct pronunciation to a female is kinda like poking a bear with a pointy stick or trying to hand milk a wolverine.

And we don’t try to do that at all.

Ex-PH2

I always called it bobwire.

Eden

Bob wire and duck tape. (Yeah, neither is correct, but you just cain’t tell some folks nuthin’!)

HMCS(FMF) ret.

Larry and Greg must have been in Ho Li Fuc village (Poon Tang Province) when they were captured and POW’s… The POW camp commander was Ngo Duc Dong (brother of Vietnamese pron star Lon Duc Dong) and he fed them Cream of Sum Yung Guy soup while they were “captives”.

Dickless Danni-boi and CoCkSlUuUuRrRrP41 must have arraigned for the Huey to fly over the POW camp and create the diversion. Forgin’ Frank was the door gunner rippin’ off rounds at the camp guards. Team Gundog helped out freeing others from the Da Nang POW camp…

Larry’s probably been bullshitting for years.. crapped all over his honorable service, when others were burning draft cards and evading the draft.

Paul

And you are a coward who hides behind a fake name throwing insults with impunity and claiming to be a veteran because you believe everything you read on a discredited fake news source

HMCS(FMF) ret.

I served 26 years and retired from the Navy (the name is the rank/rate that I retired at) and have no need to embellish my service. What’s you’re fucking excuse, Paul? You’re buttbuddy Larry is full of shit when he lies about being a POW – there’s a DoD database of those that have been POW’s, so it’s easy to confirm if a person was a POW.

Larry served at a time when many wouldn’t… he doesn’t need to “rock the lie” about being a POW, yet he did. He shit all over his service by lying.

FUCK. YOU. PAUL.

Marine_7002

Paul: please explain how the DOD POW web site and Larry’s service records, as obtained from NPRC, are “discredited fake news sources.”

Marine_7002

Undoubtedly Paul, being the sockpuppet that he is, will continue to attempt to “shoot the messenger” and ignore the facts.

Or maybe “Paul” is really “Larry.”

Ex-PH2

I’d vote for Paul being Larry, and he should know better than to try that kind of crap on people who WERE there and who know better.

If he can’t even remember where Da Nang was located, he has a serious problem.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Paul. It was your buttbuddy who said he was a POW in Da Nang.

Please splain….

AskaMarine

So what is YOUR REAL NAME, “Paul”?

Or are you being a HYPOCRITE hiding behind a Fake Name ( Paul)??

And, IF Paul is your first name, what is your last name?

Course, we may never know, because as you stated in your own words, YOU are a coward, hiding behind a fake name.

Come on, “Paul”. OR “Pauline”. Be a Man or a Woman and stop with the hypocritical, Double Standards.

Hack Stone

Does Paul have a mailbox door? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hack Stone

Well, Bernath moved from Tigard OR to Florida, and we do know that someone recently vacated their corporate headquarters.

Eden

Is this the record for the fastest sockpuppet arrival?

Old Nam Doc

3/26 had rotated off “float phase” after Operation Oklahoma Hills and was in permanent positions at Hi Van pass and Namo Bridge area.

BlueCord Dad

I do not “get” guys like this. Hauling an M60 thru the bush chasing NVA/VC. Honorable service crapped on with nonsense like this.

Just An Old Dog

Agreed, totally unneeded Embelishment.

Thunderstixx

Really, I find this so hard to understand. He was no doubt a badass Marine to have carried the Hog in combat like that.
Why the hell do they do it…

Frankie Cee "In the clear"

DaNang, eh? Gol Dang, you done Phuc’ed up. Ho Li Schitt, Marine, you could have at least looked at a map, or gone to the altar of St. Google and prayed for knowledge on the location to choose.

2/17 Air Cav

Ah, the VVA, my favorite Veteran organization. Just send two box tops from any brand of Post cereal and the registration fee of $20 and you’re in. (Cash only. No stamps please.) Membership entitles you to bullshit about the nature of your service by wearing a hat that proclaims you to be a VN Veteran, even if you never left Fort Dix. At least the KWVA requires service in Korea for membership.

2/17 Air Cav

Gotcha. James “Combat” Ferris wore his brother’s medals and ultimately resigned in disgrace, as I recall. And to the bitter end, he had his supporters in the KWVA. I also recall that service during the Korean War is not a prerequisite for membership. Thus, I suppose, one can be a member of VVA and KWVA without ever having been in VN or Korea.

Civilwarrior

I had a former section chief, Marine Vietnam vet, who claimed to be a P.O.W…with the most outlandish fucking story I ever heard. He would regurgitate this shit periodically, and somehow get people to swallow the story. He was an RTO. Did a year in country (1967-1968). Why the fuck was that not enough?

HMC Ret

POW in Da Nang? Could have been a branch office of the Hanoi Hilton. Or the brig.

Hondo

To amplify on what Jonn said in the article: DoD only recognizes 37 individuals (some of whom were civilians) as being POWs who escaped from captivity in SEA. The complete list may be found at the link below. It includes persons held less than one day, so a claim that “I’m not on the list because I wasn’t held long enough” is BS.

http://www.dpaa.mil/portals/85/Documents/VietnamAccounting/pmsea_escapee.pdf

No one with the last names “BOGGS” or “HERTENSTEIN” is on that list. This a-hole is a LSoS.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

DaNang it! He would’ve gotten away with his ruse if it wasn’t for those pesky kids.

Hack Stone

“I would have gotten away with it if it was for those meddling veterans.” – Daniel Bernath

Ex-PH2

I’m guessing ol’ Larry got some time in the bars in this part of DaNang. I’m sure he was badly treated and milked for everything he knew.

https://youtu.be/gPvG1Uil4Q8

AskaMarine

Hey, Larry and Greg were in that video! Trying to escape from the MPs..they went and hid in Mama-San’s Hooch, cuz durn it, they wanted to get a good Da Nang Shave and a Haircut as well as all the other goodies before they spent their time in that good ole Brig.

Cpl/Major Mike

Goofy mother fucker.

Ex-PH2

Here’s a 9+ minute video of Long Binh. About 1:40 you’ll see a bunch of cherries filing in to intake. About 6:35, there’s a small group of American women – I’d guess nurses, by their greens – at a USO show. If you were there, let us know.

Another moron turd in the open enjoy your google fame

HMC Ret

Why must the buttwipe posers be SEALS/Rangers/SF/POWs? Go big or stay home, I guess. Perfectly honorable career up in flames. I honestly think I dislike this type equally as those who create a military career but never served a day in uniform. If you served, and you did so honorably, be proud. How low an opinion must one have of themselves to claim bogus POW/SF/etc. status? Another question: How can they live in constant fear, anticipating a phone call from a reporter or from ‘The Hair’ who has learned of their deceit? Jeez, what a way to live. They must buy Maalox by the case.

AskaMarine

HMC Ret:

Personally think they all have extremely low opinions/low self-esteem of themselves…or are trying to cover up other lies.

How many records have we seen where it ended up the person either served time in a Brig or was reduced in rank and forced out of the military or given a discharge that was not honorable?

All done to save face…or trying to live up to someone elses’ expectations or wanting to please a family member out of desperation to get that person’s approval.

Lack of self-confidence and judgment on their part as well as ignorance and stupidity to believe that they can convince others they were POWs, SEALS, RANGERS, SF as well as having PHs, SS, DSC, BSM, NDSM, overrating their Rank, their Military accomplishments…and then, when caught, deny their lies, play the victim and convince others they are right and the whole world is wrong…except them.

HMC Ret

^^^Ditto^^^

Mine was a rhetorical question. I agree completely with AskaMarine. There are some psychological issues at play with these buttwipes. They couldn’t hack it so they invent a new persona of themselves. They stayed in mommy’s basement or hauled ass to Canada when called to serve, so they make up for doing so by inventing a new self.

HMCS(FMF) ret.

I’ll throw this out there as another cause. They never got the “thanks” of a nation for going over and fighting an unpopular war. Some may be upset at what Americans do now for people in uniform and see it as a “slap in the face” to them and their service. So, some of them resort to the SEAL/Ranger/SF/Recon/POW story to get sympathy from others.

I’d like to think that for every shitbird poser that is ID’ed at this and other sites, there are at least a dozen others that served as the mess cook/supply/mechanic/arty/PAO, etc., that is proud of their service – and don’t resort to the “I served in THE SHIT with Rice Paddy Daddy…” stories that some of the posers use.

Marine_7002

No answer to my email from this asswipe. The post is still up.

AskaMarine

Dirtbag joined PV9 Gainey’s Cricket Brigade.

Or as HMC Ret stated, he may be cowering in his Mommy’s basement.

Typical Coward.

HMCS(FMF) ret.

He’s got a buttbuddy “Paul” that is trolling comments… guess he doesn’t like his newly found fame!

AskaMarine

Yes…and “Pauly” has now joined PV9 Gainey’s Cricket Brigade…or stopped and went to church (sarc)..

Another Coward with a Personality Disorder.

Hack Stone

When you have someone named Paul defending your stolen valor, that is an indication that it will not be turning out well.

Hondo

At least this “Paul” knows how to spell his name consistently and doesn’t sometimes spell it “Psul”.

Ex-PH2

I wouldn’t get too worked up over this gasbag, frankly. If he fought in the bush and survived it intact, that should be sufficient.

He’s a jackass who now has to cover his tracks. He may run into other people who were ‘there’ and know better, so of course he’ll have some trollbait sockpuppeting for him.

Personally, I think he’s looking for money from the VA. Perhaps the proper thing to do is to remind him that profiting from a false claim is subject to a criminal complaint.

Carol

I am Larrys wife and I posted the ad looking for Greg. My husband does not know how to use the computer. I thought I was doing a good thing for him, trying to find Greg. As for the ad his recruiter said to post ads to see if I could maybe reconnect the two. He does not know what I have written and I wish there was not so many haters in this world. so many unkind comments.Sorry if this affends anyone, I was just trying to get the two back together. My husband is a wonderful man and doesnt speak about what happened to him. I know from all the nightmares and screams in his sleep that something very bad was done to him. I see his scars and I feel his pain.So no matter what a bunch of haters has to say about a wonderful man, I will always know in my heart that he went through a very bad experience. Sorry for even trying to find Greg and we have plenty of money. We both worked very hard and have a really good life. I was just trying to find Greg.

Private Parts

Maybe learn english. Nobody over 12 should ever use the term “haters.”

Greg is not real, Greg is just a figment of your supposed husbands imagination.

In fact, You are Paul. This is too obvious.

Ex-PH2

Doesn’t know how to use a computer?

That’s strange. What does he do at the bank? Most of them don’t have live tellers any more. They have those big machines that make ‘bink’ and ‘boink’ and ‘chirp’ noises instead.

Why don’t you just quit lying and go tell Larry that we all know he’s lying. When he can’t even figure out where Da Nang was, he’s full of pure, unadulterated fecal deposits.

And pauly, or Larry, you can quit with the sockpuppeting any time now. If you don’t want to be the object of derisive laughter, then shut up now.

Eden

Carol, I have news for you. Larry and Greg were never POWs. Larry may have been through some rough stuff, but NEVER as a POW. If you in fact wrote that ad, then take it down and start over with a new one that is truthful.

Snotcrow

His… recruiter?
Recruiter for what?

Hondo

Carol, as others have noted your husband is a damned liar. He was never held POW held by our enemies in SEA, and he never escaped from enemy custody in Vietnam.

Only 37 US citizens escaped enemy custody and returned alive to US control during the Vietnam War. Several of them were civilians. The complete list may be found here:

http://www.dpaa.mil/portals/85/Documents/VietnamAccounting/pmsea_escapee.pdf

Your husband and his “buddy” are not on that list. It includes people who were held less than 24 hours (e.g., who were captured and escaped the same day) – so “we weren’t held long enough for it to count” isn’t the case. Since their names are not on that list, and since the list is complete, well, that only leaves one possible explanation. You do the math.

Sorry to break this bad news to you. But as far as being a Vietnam POW who escaped, if your husband told you that . . . he lied. Period.
