Wayne Simmons; CIA poser

Wayne Simmons

Several people sent us link to a story about this Wayne Simmons fellow who has pulled the wool over the eyes of Fox News, among others, claiming that he was a CIA spook and a contractor. Kent Clizbe busted him two years ago and warned Fox News, he says, but Fox continued to use Simmons. According to the Washington Times, Simmons was arrested by the FBI for his skullduggery;

The FBI announced Thursday that Mr. Simmons had been arrested and indicted on charges of major fraud against the United States, wire fraud and making false statements to the government.

Mr. Simmons made the false statements about his ties to the CIA to at least three companies, one of which hired him as a “senior intelligence advisor” and he was deployed by the United States “overseas as an advisor to senior U.S. military personnel,” according to the indictment.

I’ll be honest, I don’t pay attention to any of these “experts” anyway, so I don’t know if this guy was ever on while I was watching. I also don’t read other blogs, unless someone sends me a link to something that interests me. I don’t pretend that I’m an expert, but I’ve been dealing with phonies for so long, that everyone makes me suspicious.

Anyway, Simmons was arrested for stealing more than a hundred grand from a lady who he told he would be investing it for her, but the money went to pay for his expenses. It seems that Fox never paid him directly, but I’m sure just appearing on the show gave him a measure of credibility he wouldn’t have otherwise.

He’s also being arrested for lying to the federal government about his time in the CIA and with contractors, according to CNN Money;

U.S. officials told CNN that there have been suspicions about Simmons’s resume and U.S. government agencies have received calls about claims he made on his website about his past work.

But because government security agencies generally do not comment on people who worked for them in certain capacities, that only served to fuel the perception that Simmons had a top-secret background.

In a statement the CIA said it is “working closely with the Justice Department on this matter and we refer you to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia for comment on the charges.”

Again, it’s the math that should have busted him – he was 62 years old, two years older than me, and he claimed that he was recruited from the Navy by the CIA in 1973, when he was 20 years old. That’s like those stories that we hear from other phonies who were chosen by the CIA before they could graduate from jump school – or Joe Cryer who went straight to the SEAL Teams without going to BUD/S after they found him in a video arcade.

When we warned Fox News about the Wickre family security expert, Jared Stern, they pulled his videos and I haven’t seen him back on there since.

Clizbe says that he never published his article, because Simmons’ friends “circled the wagons” around the liar. I can’t imagine that would stop me if I had the juice to out a phony. But, that’s not my community, maybe they do things differently over there. I guess that’s why I need a lawyer or two or three.

Wayne Simmons? Played bass for KISS, right? I don’t watch Fox (or any other TV news) so I never saw or heard this Wayne guy before today. Who has time to check guests and sources out, anyway? Facts schmacks. The 30 minute news cycle doesn’t allow for checking those things.

Hondo

Nah, that was Gene.

This guy reminds me more of Richard.

Smitty

He will be doing plenty of sweating to the oldies for a long time now

Devtun

“CIA” has a totally different meaning in a prison cell.

I don’t listen to ANY of those fucking talking heads on the mainstream media, whether they’re on the right or the left. The vast majority of them are truly “masters of the obvious” and don’t have anything substantive to say. Furthermore, the shouting, arguing, interruptions, endless repetitive and empty opinions, and general mayhem on those shows is enough to give me the fan tods.

I’d rather watch “South Park.” I get more insight (and entertainment) watching it.

MSG Eric

The real expertise is in the underlying theme of South Park. Pretty much every episode comes down to what will happen if extreme ideologies are implemented.

There always has to be a balance to everything. If politicians watched more South Park, they’d be better at their jobs. Along with the fact that it can be hilarious so often.

Funny how the govt will go after these guys like lightning in a thunderstorm. Rarely do they, in my opinion, go after the Stolen Valor numbnuts. The average, reasonable person reading the so-called “resume” of some of these SV clowns would deduce that their braggart claims is what landed them the job; hence they “made” money off of it.

Take for instance the walrus Haynes in Plano. Got off Scot free. His company website toned down his “warrior image” in his short bio, but he still claims to have been a Master Parachutist. I had 173 jumps, a mix of static line & freefall; was a static line & freefall jumpmaster. Never did get that “coveted title” of master parachutist. Maybe that’s because, to the best of my knowledge, the Army is the only service with that designation.

Still gonna keep an eye on the fat-faced PoS though.

GDContractor

I agree. Some idiots are more equal than others when it comes to being prosecuted for fraud.

Hondo

Most Federal prosecutors seem to go after the high-dollar fraud cases first. $100k is big enough to attract their attention.

Not many stolen valor types manage to steal anywhere near that much. And small-dollar fraud doesn’t generally seem to hit a US Attorney’s “radar”.

UpNorth

Federal prosecutors don’t much go after those guys who possess a few stolen firearms, either. Or do 10 or 15 straw purchases. Not unless there’s a press conference in the scenario. Seems that an indictment and a presser have to go hand in hand, before a fed prosecutor wants to get involved.

John "Faker 6" Giduck

When will these guys learn that the best lies are to be part of a hard to verify foreign military SOF unit with the story immortalized in a book and speaker bios. In my case, it also helps that I have Brad Thor and LTC Dave Grossman knowingly swearing to my lies as well.

Perhaps Grossman and Thor are available to help validate this guy’s story?

The news media is only good for a few things: weather reports and forecasts, who won what games last night and is going to which playoffs, how many people got held up at train stations or bus stops or whatever, which stores had crash-and-grab thefts, and whether or not tornadoes/hurricanes are looming on the horizon. There’s also the farm report, but cities don’t care about that.

This kind of editorializing is a golden opportunity for liars’ poker games.

2 take aways from this:

100k sounds like a “tangible benefit” to me….

Fraud has always been a crime, now he can reap the harvest he’s sown, incarceration will make him less available to Fox News one would hope.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. What’s he gonna say next, he was recruited straight into spookdom from his college Student Union while eating lunch between classes?

Fuck. Him.

This is the only time I find where he was ever referenced in a post on TAH: http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=38743

MSG Eric

Nice catch. So I guess the Washington Times is also at fault and should be getting burned like Fox is by other media.

He even claimed to them he worked in Kabul. Geeze.

Oh lordy. The fact that people work for certain elements of the IC is not classified (not good OPSEC to put your resume on Indeed.com, but hardly a state secret). The only time intelligence personnel of any IC organization (including the CIA) are undercover is if they are actively working for any of the clandestine services. Contractors are not legally allowed to do things that clandestine officers are appointed to do (such as run HUMINT sources), so he wasn’t undercover as a contractor.

I’m really curious about why he was hired to go overseas as an adviser senior military officers when the DoD and CIA have completely different clearance processes that do not overlap? 9 times out of 10, companies will not hire somebody to go work for the military overseas if they do not have an active or current DoD clearance. I guess some hiring manager got real excited that his resume featured an organization that is often depicted as something it’s not in the movies, then put him in for a DoD clearance only for that reason.

But…he’s rocking the porno ‘stache and everything. 100 yrd steely glare, death dealing smirk. The whole 8 yrds

Very Jerry “Vroomboutish”.

Late this afternoon Fox News via Neal Cavuto offered the apology of the day. ” Sorry, I accept responsibility for the error. I personally invited him on my show but failed to verify his credentials.” Not his EXACT words, but the absolute gist of it.

At least he provided some laughs at the end. From some other forums, groups, etc. the #1 comment regarding his ‘job description’ of ‘outside paramilitary special operations group’ is along the lines of ‘What in the clandestine fuck does that even mean?’ 🙂 Clizbe nails it in 1 paragraph: “Real CIA operations officers can immediately categorize a colleague, as in any bureaucracy or highly structured organization. A couple of butt-sniffing questions, and you put the guy in a box: When did you go to the farm? Where were you homebased? Where was your first tour? Did you do the war zone? When did you retire? Were you management? What were your targets? Did you know _____? Takes less than five minutes of conversation to have a clear assessment of your new friend. And it takes the same length of time to determine if your new friend is a fraud. Nothing Simmons talked about rang true. Nothing.” Roughly 5% of the total personnel from his claimed employer are in the ‘do shit outside of an office’ category. Of that 5%, a fraction are in the ‘do shit they make bad movies about’ category. And those in that fraction of the 5%, along with anyone who ever worked under a NOC, are never, ever going to put their current name and face in front of any video camera whilst detailing their former job/duties/etc. And these are the types of guys that this shitbag was stealing valor from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_A._Zembiec Cases like this piss me off even more than ‘normal’ stolen valor cases, because the guys who are having their reputations slandered will never formally defend themselves and set the record straight. If you have a phony Ranger, his out of character behavior and demeanor is readily comparable to an actual Ranger. So there is effectively some damage control from comparison to a ‘real deal’. Because the guys working on the spooky side of things are never, ever going to idly chat about work to anyone outside of a couple of very small groups of persons, these guys get away with amazing amounts of… Read more »

Looks like our CIA poser has been released on home detention. I guess he won’t be able to attend Daniel Bernath’s team building conference at The Stunning Agency compound.
