We wrote about Michael Hays, of Seattle, Washington back in April last year, but Scotty says that it’s had no effect on his phony ass. He still claims that he’s a special forces-trained Marine, or a Marine in Special Forces, or something. He has a Special Forces crest tattooed in his left arm;
He also has Purple Heart plates on his vehicle;
He served in the Marines for four years, but he was a mechanic, not a Recon Marine and he was discharged as an E-3 – not as an E-7 Gunnery Sergeant like he claims. Notice that he has not even one minute aboard a ship or overseas.
TSO says that we should slam him because he’s also a Seahawks fan – whatever that is.

Maybe I’m cynical. This seems to be the place to go for posers. Day, after day, after day. Like I said on another post. We’d have to have a military the size of the red army to accommodate all of the supposed secret squirrel ninja types running around in leather. I doubt you can go to bike week in Daytona and spit without pissing off three Rangers, two Green Berets, 7 Seals at Monkress’s table, and 4 or 5 Force Recon Marines.

I saw an older clown (60 or so) at the VA with numerous tattoos, one of which said “2nd Marine Division Special Forces,” of which I am quite certain there is no such thing. I talked to him a bit and he just wasn’t all there. Said he had been in SF and USMC. Me and another guy (Nam era Marine) weren’t buying any of it.
That back tattoo looks more like GEICO and not CHICO, right?

Re Code of 4… usually not a good sign to begin with. No PH on that DD-214, so he either forged a copy with a PH on it or is the surviving spouse or “partner” of a deceased PH recipient. Only way he could rate one under Washington State Law.
You can have an RE-4 code and still have an Honorable Discharge. That’s what I got on mine. I was injured (service connected) and discharged once I was healed up enough.
Basically, ineligible to reenlist due to service-connected injuries.
In Hays’ case, he probably had fractured ‘taint syndrome due to too many “Office Hours” visits…

Now I’m not the most expert guy when it comes to reviewing Marine DD214’s, but I found this one to be a little strange.
Four years active duty. Yes, it did take him three years to finally be promoted to E-3. Has a Reserve Obligation remaining of four years to meet the eight year universal training obligation.
Everything seems fine so far. However, at the bottom of the DD214 where the character of service is listed(Honorable), all of a sudden he gets shackled with a RE-4 re-up code. WTF!! I always thought that any type of a RE-4 code barred you from ever reentering any of the services for the rest of your life. I wonder what happened? Or is it a typo?
Perhaps some of you Marines out there can offer an answer as to why he would receive such a reenlistment code.
Claw: the DOR may be his second time making LCpl. Note the NAM, but lack of a GCM and the annotation “Good Conduct Medal commences 920403”.
I’m thinking the youngster started out good but stepped on his crank wearing golf shoes in early 1992, losing a stripe or two in the process. If bad enough, that might explain the RE-4 reentry code.
Had to be doing something right got a NAM as a E-3, and then messed up.
Claw – he may have been a problem child (spent a little too much time with the “Old Man” at Office Hours ). Or he may have been asked to go from his MOS into another as part of a reenlistment and he turned them down.
He was stations at MCAGCC Twentynine Palms about the same time frame that I was during my first tour their, with the AGSE (Aviation Ground Support Element, I think) – now MWSS 374. They has all sorts of losers there at the time and from what I remember there were problems with retention in that unit (they are out in the middle of the desert!).
Most of us are familiar with the RE4 reenlistment code as attaching itself to shitbaggery – re: characterization of service = OTH, BCD, etc.
In this sense, he would require a HQMC approved waiver to reenlist if he decided he wanted to reenlist. Chances he wouldn’t get it because of his in-service conduct.

I think maybe he was a “problem child” or maybe one of those that has the phrase “Bless his heart” connected to him whenever his name is brought up.
