Fred Eugene Hughes; special forces mechanic
Scotty sends us his work on this fellow, Fred Eugene Hughes, who claimed that he was special forces with 101st Airborne Division;
Not having your facts straight gets you in trouble every time. From his records, he was a petroleum supply specialist during Desert Storm and got out a few months later. He had a break in service from 1991 to 1993 and went back into the Army as a mechanic until 1996 – two three tours in the Army, but not as a special forces soldier. It looks like he got out as an E-3 Private First Class. But his records show that he went to the leadership course, and they don’t usually send PFCs to that, so there must have been a bust in there somewhere;

On his facebook page, a woman asks him if he’s familiar with a name. He tries to pick her up. 😆 She shoots him down. 😆
That’s the first thing I saw, and I did a double take. WHY? Just fucking WHY?! I’ve got three ribbons to my name, two just for being in (NDSM, GWOT), and I can’t imagine going around saying the type of shit these guys do. I just don’t get it.

No Valor there, just a “plain” BSM. Granted that’s still pretty significant for a fuel pumping PFC/SPC during DS/DS.
I’m not so familiar with the awards given during Gulf War I, maybe someone else knows the stats on those.

Eric; don’t know the stats on the 101AB. But I was in the 1st AD, and can say they handed out awards like candy. Now there were those who legitimately earned them. There were a couple in my unit who earned their ARCOMS with a V device. We had E-6’s and above awarded plain Bronze stars regardless of what they did, good or bad. That really bugged the shit out of alot of people. It seems they wanted us all to look like heros or whatever.
Many Bronze Stars were given out to the Rear Echelon units in Desert Storm. It was always somewhat of a bone of contention with the guys in our unit (2nd ACR). As a matter of fact one of our guys nearly got his ass in a sling for a little bit of wall to wall counseling on a female truck driver proudly displaying her bronze star (we all got “2nd ACR Desert Legion” certificates). He was telling another guy about accidentally shooting a guy who stood up to surrender while laying down suppressing fire. The nice lady with the BSM called him a murderer for killing someone giving up. She never got closer to combat than KKMC and called guys balls deep in bodies “murderers”. Yeah…. BSMs really don’t impress me without a “V” anymore, and particularly if they come from DS/DS on some REMF

Wow, service in Desert Storm with a Bronze Star, ARCOM, and 3 AAMs to show for it? That’s a record to be proud of, regardless of what MOS he was or what rank he got out at. Reality just never seems to be good enough for some people.
