CSM Daniel A. Dailey named Sergeant Major of the Army

The Stars & Stripes reports that Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel A. Dailey has been named the new Sergeant Major of the Army – an infantryman and a Ranger.
Dailey joined the Army in 1989 and served in Germany as a radio telephone operator and rifleman for his first assignment, according to his Army biography. He deployed to Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm and was soon after promoted to sergeant in 1993. After a series of assignments, he deployed to Iraq in 2003, and was promoted to command sergeant major in 2004. He would return three more times to Iraq by 2009 before taking on his current assignment.
Among his awards are the Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star with Valor, a number of Bronze Stars, Meritorious Service Awards and Army Commendation Medals. Dailey received a bachelor of science degree, summa cum laude, from Excelsior University, the Army said.
SMA Ray Chandler has set the bar pretty low, I’m sure SMA Dailey will exceed the standard that Chandler left for him. Back to the days of Glen Morrell, Julius Gates and Richard Kidd, CIBs and Tabs all around.

Congratulations to Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel A. Dailey on his new post. I am sure he will do far better than his predecessor.
I think most of us could do better than his predecessor Sparks.
Just sayin….
nbcguy54…Roger that! Hell I think even I could give it at least as good a go as Chandler has.
My 7 year old could do better than his predecessor.
There are privates in basic training who got ASVAB Waivers to enter the Army who could do a better job…
I would very much like to report a an E7 at ft. Lewis for real poor treatment of a veteran with 70% diasabilty.he has had substance abuse issues after the SIDS death of his son and the E7 did nothing to help or give a hand but only criticized and berated him. AND he is family..conduct unbecoming …I am Vietnam vet army 67-68
Promoted to CSM in 15 years!? Holy fast track. I know E-5s with 15 years TIS.
You know, if wasn’t for his rugged good looks, his rank, his tab, and that non-OD uniform, I’d swear I was looking at myself in my younger years!
2/17 Air Cav…Damn…Beat me to it.
Just picture him with BCG’s and a droopy porn stache, and you have a 40 year old picture of me in my prime.
I actually was surprised the opening was still there, Sparks!
Is it unusual for a CSM of infantry not to have a CIB/EIB ?
He has both,he’s just not wearing one in the photo. I have seen quite a few pictures of him and the only time he does have the CIB on is when he is in full dress uniform.
Back in the Reagan years there was this 4 star in his class As wearing one row of ribbons.
We were all WTF.
They were his 3 highest combat medals..
He took me over to Iraq in 1/8 Inf. Was my 1SGT then my CSM. He earned his CIB and had his EIB before that.
Here he is in all his glory

The RANGER tab speaks volumes.
I suspect this man knows his creed well and HE has no reason to sport his CIB for whatever reason.
The command photo above says it all:
1. I am US Army.
2. I am a RANGER.
3. I am a leader.
4. I will kill you and your affiliates if authorized and given a chance.
5. I don’t blink.
6. I am very handsome because I am Irish.
7. And that chick in the post above me is smokin’ hot!
That is all!
Congratulations to the incoming SMA. I’m pleased to read in his bio that his initial assignment in the Army was to my old outfit,1st Bn 15th INF in Germany. Here’s hoping he keeps the faith in its’ motto “CAN DO”. I’m sure he will.
So Jonn does this mean that you won’t need me to help you get a selfie with this guy? Cuz that would make me sad.
Yeah, I’m sitting here think how I can swing one. I threw away an opportunity to get one with Barrett (USMC) and I’ve been hating myself ever since.
You know I’m always up for a challenge. Tee hee hee
Congratulations and good luck to him. He has a lot to fix ahead of him, but he seems the fellow to get it done.
Couldn’t help but notice his initials – how long until someone calls him Sergeant Major DAD?
Congratulations to the new SMA. Chandler talked a lot about bringing back standards but spent half of his time working on female hair issues, tattoos and other non-sense. The other half he spent on finding ways to separate Senior NCOS. I hope this is the man to do what needs to be done, give NCOS back their power and bring back discipline, standards and pride.
Chandler is a joke. I can only imagine he will be given a coveted position on All-Points Logistics senior staff.
‘Bout time they hired an Irishman!
Best o’luck to the new SMA!
I concur that it’s next to impossible to be any worse than his predecessor, and I hope he goes right to unfucking what Chandler did during his time!
Congrats SMA Dailey. Good riddance Ray, you hand wringing boner.
congrats to him and I’m sure he will do an exceptional job but who the fuck wrote that story? “A number of bronze stars” like they are the little stick on ones you get in kindergarten?
I have worked for CSM Dailey for my entire career in the Army. First while in 1-68 AR in 3/4 ID, then later in the Armor School in TRADOC (where I currently reside). I have met and spoke with him several times over the years. From everything I have seen, he is a no-nonsense, real soldiers-soldier. Congratulations to him, we predicted his rise to SMA years ago. I don’t know any other CSM out there that is a better fit for the job.
SMA Dailey it’s me Walker from Ft. Carson ex PSG. Congrats remember the hell we used to raise at Fort Carson? WE COULDN’T BE STOPPED!
I never thought I’d see the day. But I am older and have been in the Army longer than the SMA
Brings back a memory. My first Platoon Sergeant. SFC Aguilera. He informed us in formation one day that he had reached his 20 years. So naturally we (the young E-4s and below) were joking about how NONE of us would ever stick around that long. He says..
“Jew muddah fuckas laugh now. One of dees days jew muddah fuckas is gonna wake up and find out jew been in the Army longer than the new kids coming in have been alive”
Never thought I’d see that day either
My career happened just like that.
Been there…doing that. Sigh…
A leg? Oh well, my mother was one too and she was great.
Seriously, seems like a great choice.
Pretty sure you can’t be a leg and be a Ranger. Pretty sure basic Airborne School is a prerequisite.
That was gnawing at my brain too. Maybe things changed? I was just being a smart ass wanting to use the ole line that my mother was a leg. This guy seems to have done it all.

Near the bottom it says you have to be Airborne. Wonder why he doesn’t wear his wings…probably has too many other things.
Airborne school is not a prequisite for Ranger school. If you graduated Ranger school and dont have wings, then you will get the GOLF identifier instead of the VICTOR identifier.
Interesting
There is no longer a GOLF identifier. Once you get a slot at Ranger School, if you aren’t a BAC graduate, you will attend BAC either before or right after Ranger School. And on the Army ACUs you don’t have to wear any skill badges.
I was wondering why too. I looked up his official photo in blues and no wings there either. Also no mention of them in his profile.
I could be wrong. Maybe he attended Ranger school before it was mandatory? But I’m pretty sure it was mandatory before he enlisted.
The Ranger candidates who are not Airborne qualfied just dont jump. They work details on jump day in Darby and get bussed down to Florida.
You are looking at the Ranger Regiment requirements, not the School requirements.
You can be a Leg and attend Ranger School and be awarded the Ranger Tab. Airborne qualification is only a requirement for serving in the Ranger Regiment, which he never did.
e. Students are not required to be Airborne qualified, but are encouraged to attend the Airborne Course prior to attending the Ranger Course.

Thanks for clarifying guys
Tnx. Learn something everyday.
Oddly enough this makes me mad at my First Sergeant from ’88. I really, really wanted to attend Ranger School back then and he kept telling me that I couldn’t attend because I was a leg and there was no way I could get an Airborne School slot at the time.
Well, I guess that explains why it is necessary to sing, “I want to be an airborne Ranger…” rather than “I want to be an ass kickin’ Ranger” or something along that line.
I hope he un-f**ks the stuff that Chandler did. I was praying for an Infantry SMA. CSM Dailey came to Fort Huachuca a few weeks ago and spoke to us. He has a commanding presence and is definitely the right guy for the job. I think the Privates that have been getting away with “hurt feelings” and “stress cards” are about to get a rude awakening. I see corrective action coming back to the Army and that makes me happy.
Bring back standards that’s the problem they shouldn’t have every left that’s why I’m a retired First Sergeant!!!! Had no backing to enforce simple standards on Senior NCO in the AR G program what a joke. No BALLS. LET GO OLD SCHOOL ANDLET NON CO MS HANDLE BUSINESS ANDTHE HELL WITH BEING POLITICALLY CORRECT !!! THATS WHY WE ARE NOT OFFICERS!!! GO OLD SCHOOL!!!! CAN I GET A HOOAH!!!!!

Holy SHit,
The SMA is YOUNGER than I am,
My youngest daughter just brought up getting her learners permit this spring
Box measured, 5’8″
Nails ordered
Hole dug
I need to send an email to Daniel Dailey does anyone know how I can get in contact with him? It’s very important..
Thank you
