Earl L. Johnson; Baltimore phony Ranger

| July 13, 2013

Johnson in Baltimore

Jeff sends us a link from the Baltimore Sun about Earl L. Johnson who was a board member of 6th Branch, a veteran-run organization to clean up Baltimore’s Oliver district. Johnson claimed to be a Ranger with tours in Bosnia and Iraq, but it turns out that Johnson’s military career last about a year and ended in 2002.

Johnson moved to Oliver with his wife in 2010 and first got the attention of veterans working in the neighborhood with the Pat Tillman Foundation. Johnson seemed like a community member who cared. He swept his street and talked with other residents about leaving crime behind and improving the neighborhood, leaders have said.

As the other veterans increased their focus on Oliver through The 6th Branch, they began featuring Johnson’s story and partnering more with Operation Oliver. Johnson joined the board.

But through it all, Johnson was hiding a darker history. He’d arrived in Baltimore after a futile search for work along the East Coast. He was a felon, he said, convicted of violating a restraining order in a former relationship and placed on probation. Public court records were not available in the case.

Over the years, he’s run into other problems, including a robbery charge that he said stemmed from allegations that he stole from a restaurant where he worked. He was found not guilty.

Johnson now says he indeed served in the Army, but the stint only lasted a year. He says he served one tour in Afghanistan as an infantryman in 2002 but was dropped from military rolls after violating orders. Army officials could not immediately verify his account.

So, a guy with his heart in the right place, really working for his community and to make things right in the world screws it all up by making up needless stories – stories that had nothing to do with the good works he was doing for the neighborhood. What did being a Ranger have to do with fixing up the neighborhood? Well, except to build up Johnson’s ego and the image the media had of him. Now that he’s been found out, his stories demean us all. So, thanks, Earl.

In the infantry and booted out while on deployment in Afghanistan for violating orders? What did he do, let Bin Laden go?

Somebody get a FOIA on this guy because it’s going to be hilarious.

Combat Historian

I’m betting money he never served in Afganistan either; once the lies start rolling, more and more lies will go rolling along with it…

One great American once said, (Quote) ” If I had a son I’d want him want him to look just like Earl L. Johnson”. Never know, this Joker might be related and don’t know it.

Closest thing he ever got to being a Ranger was a Park Ranger tossing his ass out because the park was closed. Fuck him and his lies.

A Proud Infidel & Patriot

He’s a felon, so if anything, he’s been a RUMP Ranger while in prison!

Just An Old Dog

Goes to show the duality that people possess. It looks like he has done some good in his neighborhood, as well as having a shady past.
As for me I believe people like him go in cycles, good… bad,,, good,,,, terrible,, great,, horrendus.
You see it all the time. The guy who gets out of jail, becomes a community organizer, then pilfers the little league or church fund.
Picking up trash and painting walls is about the extent of his trustworthness.

Smitty

anyone that claims a Ranger tab they didnt earn, reguardless of their good deeds, is a piece of shit in my book.

NHSparky

Diliberto probably got closer to the ‘Stan than this clown did.

Green Thumb

Turd.

ItAllFades

Chow Hall Ranger maybe…

B Woodman

Looks like he ATE a Ranger.

“Justice 4 Trayvon– he was with me at the Battle of Hoth!” betcha he says now.

Green Thumb

I wonder if he passed the CWST?

Probably not.

Guess all who are judging, never lied before. He lied like the politicians do everyday. Don’t throw rocks from a glass house! Just saying!

Hondo

Anonymous (14): and most politicians who get caught lying about their military record get hammered, too – just like this guy is getting hammered now. (Well, they get hammered unless they’re a senator from Connecticut or a mayor from New Jersey. Then maybe they get a pass.)

Your point?

LostOnThemInterwebs

@14 you also needed to add the hitler reference to make the “ignorant trifecta” comment of thread …

Geoff B

This POS has no remorse. His Twitter makes it sound like he did no wrong: twitter.com/earljohnsonchb

ByrdMan

Geoff B (@17)

Most of his tweets talk about cleaning up and helping his community. I didn’t go back very far, but the ones I saw made no claims of service nor did they contain any bravado.

Geoff B

Well hell Byrdman, I guess that means they’re not there. Our maybe, like you said, you didn’t go back very far, like many near the date when this article came out. But maybe I’m just commenting for the sake of it. Maybe I like reading my own words. Maybe I like birds.

beretverde

RLTW!

ByrdMan

Maybe you’re a dick who gets bent out of shape when someone disagrees with him.

Geoff B

That’d be like arguing over the color of a blue jay, Byrdboy, in that I’d be telling you facts and you’d be responding like a dumb ass, which appears to be your m.o. And my shape is just fine, thanks. Unbent and lacking in the characteristics of a dick, as far as I can tell. But feel free to tell me the stuff you know about dick, Byrdboy.

ByrdMan

Pump the brakes Geoff; its just the internet.

ByrdMan

Geoff,

At this point I have gone back as far as July 6th (the article was written on July 13th) and I repeat my earlier statment, he makes no claims of service or bravado. He does address his felony conviction, and how he won’t let his past keep him from helping his community, which is perhaps what you’re referencing in comment #17.

Additionally, you seem surprised that a valor stealing felon doesn’t think he did anything wrong. If he thought it was wrong, he wouldn’t have done it in the first place. Do you want him to send you a sob story email, apologizing for his misdeeds? He won’t. So don’t expect it. And don’t act so shocked when it doesn’t happen.

We’re on the same team here, Geoff. I just don’t see the tweets you reference showing how he thinks he did nothing wrong. Maybe going back a week isn’t going back far enough, but I have better things to do than read through this tools Twitter feed.

Are you still pissy that I disagree with you, or can we move on?

ByrdMan

And by move on, I man sex chat on a private message board.

ByrdMan

Good one, Geoff.

No one will possibly be able to discern your clever use of my handle to make it seem as a I have a proclivity for homosexuality.

Although, it is amusing that it looks like I’m talking to myself.

Steven Hiller

In 2003, an elite Army Pre-Ranger was sent to jail by a military court for a crime he may or may not, depending on who you believe…but based on documentary evidence, did commit. Earl Johnson escaped from a maximum security brig, to the Baltimore City underground. Today, still wanted by the government, he survives as a community activist of fortune. If you have a grievance, if no one else will listen, and if you can stand his incessant social media ramblings, maybe you can hire…

ByrdBoy, you’re just a straight weirdo, whether that’s you talking about giving hj’s or not. And I’m just about done responding to you out of fear you will either make sexual advances at me our suss me of pretending to be you making phases at me. You have daddy issues. That being said, I’ll concede that it looks like that piece of shit earl deleted a bunch of his tweets life a scared little bitch. No way to prove that as undetweetable is gone.
