Revisiting Melanie Gutermuth/Melanie Going; phony grifter
Almost two years ago, Sporkmaster wrote about Melanie Gutermuth, a scam artist who has been taking her nilitary service to the bank. Gutermuth has popped up again, this time in Tampa, FL, according to a veteran who ran into her recently. She goes by several names, but the one she’s going by in Tampa is Melanie Going. She has a long arrest record, as evidenced by these mugshots;
Back when she still had her looks, she established herself in the veteran community, like in 2010 when she somehow got the Military Officers of America Association to include her in an article about the shabby treatment of women veterans. And she even somehow convinced a Whataburger to welcome her home from her deployment;
She shows up at local military and veterans events with whatever uniform is appropriate, along with her medals and rank;
So, what’s her real story? Her DD214;

It looks like she got recycled four times in Basic Training then got booted after four months, and then she joined ROTC. The word is that she got kicked out of ROTC because she couldn’t pass the PT test after several months of “trying” whatever that word means to her.
Basically, it looks to me like she’s been banking on her fairly good looks (in pre-meth days) to get by and now she’s scamming veterans’ organizations. The vet who called us said that she was lobbying for women veterans in Washington, DC recently. I hope that was part of her scam and not something that she really did with her meth-ridden body.
Now, she’s trying to glom onto a group of veterans in Tampa, supposedly, that’s how she gets her creds, and the guy I spoke with got suspicious and Sporkmaster’s post popped up as a top search result. SO I thought I’d add another with complete documentation, since most of SM’s post was links to the old POW Network.
At her Military.com profile, she says she’s a member of the VFW along with all of her phony awards;
So, hopefully, someone will see this that can do something about all of this crap and get her to stop playing veteran in public.

Gutermuth was originally let into our program in 2006 by the former Professor of Military Science, even with a criminal record. Her explanation for the charge, was that she was in a single vehicle accident some time ago and an ambulance was called. She claimed that although she had no injuries, the officer at the scene said it was required by law that she go to the hospital in the ambulance. When she refused, she was arrested.
The actual charge was criminal mischief.
Aw, this is just sad. Can’t make it through basic, can’t make it in ROTC, and can’t even make it as a phony vet.

Went to BCT with her, she started off in C 1-48 @ FLW (Despite what her DD214 says). Her nickname was “guttermouth”.

Very sad…I googled myself and I end up with this image along with my own. This is one of my cousins…I haven’t talked to her in almost 9 years. She had just joined the military the last time I talked to her on myspace (yeah that tells you how long its been). Just sad to see anyone especially someone your related to in a situation like this. As a family member I would like to say The Gutermuth Family is very sorry for any wrong doing this “woman” has done to anyone and certainly do not condone any of her actions.

I am surprised to find this post. Funny thing is she is also my cousin. She is also the one who got me into the army she even got the money for the army referral program. She also lived on fort Sam same as I did when I was in ait. She was even my sponsor for ako after I got out. It’s funny if she never made it past basic how did she live on fort Sam Houston? Right behind Rocco defac. I’m not sure what happen to her past 2007 but you really can not believe everything you read on the internet. I know for a fact she was on fort Sam Houston in 2007 cause I saw her just about every other day there. So the dd214 is false. Nice try. Again I have no account for her after 2007.

I knew her. I totally trusted her when I first met her. Over time, I discovered almost everything she said was a lie. And even anything truthful she said turned out to be only partially true (meaning that was also a lie). I think she is either a compulsive liar, or totally delusional, or both. She’s nuts.
