Broadwell vs. Stewart in a push up match for charity
Our buddy, Jeff Schogol at the Air Force Times, sent us this link to an article by Joe Gould at the Army Time’s Outside the Wire, with a link to the video of The Daily Show segment of a pushup contest between Jon Stewart and Paula Broadwell, General Petraeus’ biographer. The bet was for a thousand smackers per pushup in the spread to the charity “Team Red and Blue“. It’s The Daily Show so it comes with a STRONG LANGUAGE WARNING for “F” bombs.
It’s a good thing I wasn’t grading because Broadwell would have had a lot fewer push ups counted. But, then I was always a dick as a grader.

Somebody needs to give those folks a five minute block of instruction on how to do a pushup. Homechickie wasn’t even close to getting a full tricep stretch.
If you were grading John I bet some people wouldn’t get past 0
Damn, even General Petraeus’ biographer is a badass….next time push ups in bikinis…..sans john.
I’m weary of Broadwell, because she has been an advocate of repealing many of the female exclusion laws set by congress, I think Jonn may even have had a post about it. I know she is also a big activist for military female issues. Second she seems to be someone who’s main pursuit is credentials, which in itself there is nothing wrong with, but her assigments in between seem to be light, short, and, vague though. Third I know she had something to do with McChrystal when he was in command in Afghanistan(I’m not sure what), despite some journalistic embeds, I don’t think she as a reserve officer ever deployed(though I could be wrong).
One last point do you remember Taroke Kolache? The mined strongpoint of a village that was destroyed in S. Afghanistan, about a year ago, and of course spurned the “Destroyed the Village to save it” Vietnam redux. She was embeded with the battalion
at the time and that pulled in Ricks, Ackermann, Fouste, and the Battalion Commander, in a interwebs fight. As a side note I agree with the battalion commander’s reasoning for far too many points to list here.
I saw her briefly on Imus the other morning and she claimed that Petraeus’ year of command in Afghanistan is the back drop narrative of the book. So that will be something different. All in all, I will most likely pick it up but like Thomas Ricks before her, I might take a few issues with her. Hopefully like Ricks it will be well researched.
[…] to Fox News, Broadwell admits that she works out with Petraeus when she’s in town, but we noticed back in January that she needed work on her pushups. “By any measure, he was one of the outstanding General […]
