Letuli busted
Some of you probably remember the shitbag known as SGM John Letuli (center in the photo above) that we’ve been pursuing since last April in conjunction with our friends at ProfessionalSoldier.com. Well, Sporkmaster emails that he’s been busted a stripe prior to his retirement according to Military.com;
“I sent the picture to Special Forces Command and they came back immediately and said, ‘he’s not SF,’ ” [Retired Master Sgt. Jeffrey “JD”] Hinton said. At that point, he began using the Freedom of Information Act to secure copies of official records, including a listing of Letuli’s assignments, decorations, medals and badges.
The record does not list a Purple Heart or Soldier’s Medal. It notes Letuli has a basic parachutist badge, but not the Military Freefall Badge.
A bust one stripe is hardly any punishment at all. But, I guess it’s better than nothing.
In one photo, Letuli is wearing a Special Forces patch and tab on his BDUs; in another, he is in Class As, wearing the Purple Heart and Soldier’s Medal ribbons, and a Military Freefall Badge, or “HALO wings” — none of which he earned.
But at least the truth is out there about this clown now.
Category: Phony soldiers
Still gets retirement, no DH or OTH discharge……….this is bullshit. He’s a Senior NCO, for chrissakes! He knew exactly what he was doing and he knew how wrong it was.
I hope the hell someone beats his ass just for GP.
I’m with you ROS. This ‘man’ is getting away with nothing more than a wrist slap, it’s sickening.
And that’s effing CSM Frank Grippe standing next to him- who REALLY has a PH and bronze star with V device.
That just pisses me off more. Jesus.
He gets to retire as an E-8? WTF? Had he been an E-6 they would have bounced him out as a Specialist…at least…
Wonder if his defenders will come back….
It’s been happening since we’ve had an Army. Some are never happy with what they’ve done and have to pretend to be something they’re not. Isn’t it a CRIME to wear awards you’ve had had orders for?
I’m very happy with my KP medal and to defy the Army bastards who forgot to give us ammo when we deployed to Iraq, I wear the 1st Mar Div patch on my right sleeve because they gave my team ammo in Fallujah. Not really authorized, but I’ve never met anybody with the balls to take it off.
I don’t know what ya’ll call it, but in the Navy it was the Khaki Mafia. Different service, same bullshit, covering each other’s asses.
I’d bust him to PFC. Nothing but a shit for brains. I could never imagine pretending that I earned something I didn’t.
I failed many times and I cannot believe even his comrades would lie for him wearing something not earned.
Weren’t there some folks defending this assclown here from time to time?
About half of his personalities and a couple of the voices in his head, I believe it was.
This really pisses me off, remember the other shit head CSM Stoney Crump? As far as I have heard, no UCMJ action was taking against him either.
His DD Form 214 should list Douchebag as a qualification.
Oh, and… Varmintcong! Oh, Mrs. Green, I got a salami I wanna hide!

No, he’ll still retire as an E9. Either highest rank achieved (before 1986ish) or highest 3 year average (after).
So the bust did next to nothing.
@14 – Don’t think so.
The reg says you retire at the highest rank successfully held. Enlisted personnel who served successfully at a higher grade than their retirement grade can indeed apply to be advanced to that higher grade on the retired list. However, since Letuli was reduced in rank for cause, the rank from which he was reduced (SGM) will not be deemed to have been held successfully. He thus won’t be eligible for post-retirement advancement on the retired list to that rank.
An example from the officer ranks: in 1999, a serving Army MG was demoted to COL for misconduct (adultery) over a protracted period of time and was forced to retire. He was deemed not to have served successfully at the rank of either BG or MG. He retired as a COL.

This individual later apparently tried to convince the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) to increase his retirement rank. I’ve read the redacted version of his appeal on the USAF-run site that posts redacted versions of ABCMR cases and recognized this specific case due to the facts presented. The ABCMR didn’t buy his argument. He’s still a retired COL – not a retired GO.
