Cops: Meth trafficker caught after slowly driving moped at 2 a.m. in Cherokee County

By Zachary Hansen
About 2 a.m. Saturday, a Cherokee County deputy spotted an odd sight while out on patrol.

The deputy saw a moped with several wires dangling from the steering handles and floorboard as its driver slowly traveled along Kellogg Creek Road. Feeling suspicious, the deputy pulled over the sluggish souped-up scooter.

The driver, identified as Bryan Purdy, 46, of Acworth, told the deputy he owned the moped despite the vehicle’s VIN number being altered, the sheriff’s office said. The deputy then smelled marijuana, and a closer inspection found much more.

Purdy was arrested after the deputy found 50 grams (about 1.8 ounces) of methamphetamine packaged into several baggies, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The deputy also seized a gram of heroin, six grams of marijuana, several pills and digital scales.

Crawford County deputy returns fire, kills man following high-speed chase

BY BECKY PURSER
A Crawford County sheriff’s deputy returned fire, striking and killing a suspect following a high-speed chase Monday night, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Jamie Lamar Darley, 33, was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he was pronounced dead, according to a GBI news release. Darley earlier had reportedly been involved in a domestic incident.

Here’s what the GBI has released based on its preliminary investigation:

At 6:18 p.m., Crawford sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute at 2570 Richardson Mill Road where Darley reportedly threatened people with a gun inside the home.

Before deputies arrived, Darley fled in white Chevrolet truck. They caught up with him on Blasingame Road in Crawford County and tried to pull him over.

A high-speed chase ensued with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. The pursuit came to a halt back on Richardson Mill Road in the yard of the same residence of the domestic dispute.

“Darley exited the truck holding a silver firearm in his hand,” the release read. “Darley pointed the firearm at the deputies and fired at least one shot. One Crawford County deputy returned fire, striking Darley.”

Pro Tip to all the dirtbags acting up in Mid Ga. Since the death of 2 local LEOs in an ambush a coupla (Nov ’16) years ago, our boys are just a little bit trigger happy…not that there is anything wrong with that. You show your ass and wave a weapon around and they are going to shoot you. RIP Deputies Daryl Smallwood and Patrick Sondron. I knew them both, they did a lot of traffic control for us, and were damn fine Officers. A link to the story is below; There is a video of the shooting, I did not post it since it had the murderer’s name in the url. Mofo sissy punk only got 2 life terms plus 100 years cause the local DA didn’t want to spend the money on a death penalty trial.
