Police: Woman shoots suspect after home invasion on South Side

CHICAGO – A woman shot a man who forced his way into her residence Wednesday night, Chicago police said.

Just after 6:15 p.m., police were dispatched to the 8300 block of South Kerfoot on the report of a shooting.

After a preliminary investigation, police said a 31-year-old woman was inside her residence when a man forced his way inside.

The woman then produced a firearm and fired shots at the offender, striking him in the foot. He was taken to Holy Cross in good condition.

“You thought Glocks were ugly?“
Let me stop you right there, bud.
I don’t go into Home Depot and ask for their prettiest hammer, I ask for the one that works. (Actually I don’t ask them Hardware guys for sh*t because Bob and Dave are usually busy and/or abrasive and David is chatty, plus I’ll get an update on my ex-wife and that’s no fun)

Fake news, you’ll never find anyone at the paint counter in a Big Box!

They work. Most folks can afford one. Not everyone has a grand or two available for a proper sidearm and rig.

Most folk will never actually use a sidearm in an actual firefight, so just about anything that goes “bang” works.

Volkspistole. I like that, 11B.

Little late to the commenting party Ladies and Gentlemen. Had to go back and peruse all the hubristic comments that came in during late evening past.

You can rest assured that I won’t ask the ugly girl to dance until all of the pretty ones have turned me down. And my nail driving hammers are Estwings…in a variety of caliber/weights. And yep, they are pretty too. Got another type hammer for doing other types of nailing…her. Do 96.69% of my hardware buying from the locally owned and operated good ol’ boys hardware store. Both are still serving Vets (Army Guard (Essayon) Enlisted and Naval Reserve (Bless his Heart) Ossifer Bubblehead) and the pricing is within a point or two of the big box. Plus it ain’t a 50-60 mile round trip. Buying a quantity of Valspar to redo the little house for a lower price than what the box store wanted. I’ll wait right here for Sir Arrogance of Attitude to show up and tell me the error of my ways.

Speaking of errors, the AR linky seems to be MIA. Might want to fix that ‘less you incur some hubristing.

I am all for supporting the local store, but in my parts the BIG BOX stores have all but chase away the little guy, and I have to drive past the PIG BOX plus another 20-30 just to get to the local guy.
Had a local Lumber yard in the next town over, they decided to close the business, because they could not find anyone to turn it over to. Not sure what their family situation was, but where do you list a business for sale? I am sure they could have found someone to buy in to their little competitive store.
As for cheap guns, there is a place for expensive and there is another for inexpensive. I understand Hi Points are cheap because they don’t waste time or money on exact tolerance. So a little gun smithery of your own can make an inexpensive firearm quite nice.

You are correct MI Ranger. So many of the Mom and Pop Stores were driven out of business by the Big Boxers. I made a damn good living servicing independent retailers for a number of years. And in many cases, the perception of a lower price at the mega store was just that, a perception. Had a case in a smaller town town where I had an electronics store/video rental operation. Wally World came into town, the other retailers were all skeered. On their grand opening they had pallets of WD 40 in the aisle with a sign screaming “2 for $3.00, Limit 2” People toting it out by the cases. Same exact size can was available right up the street at the local hardware store for .97c all.day.long. I saw many a small town’s business district gutted when those bastards would move in, price their product well below anyone else, sometimes below cost, and purposely drive everyone out of business. When they ended up as the only game in town, the price would go way up. I absolutely refuse to do any business at all with the Walton Stores, will go out of my way and pay twice the price, or just flat do without it.

Another problem was many independents didn’t make it past the 3rd generation. The Grandkids that grew up in the business, were fed, housed, clothed, and educated by the family business wanted no part of it. Many of them would not even try to sell the business, but would just close it down, and walk away. Kinda sad, in the grand scheme of things. Lots of folks don’t realize that 50% of Americans make a living from what is classified as a small business. What little money I spend at a chain store would be the K Roger Grocery Store.

Practicing for the upcoming TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread. Besides…Roh-Dog started it with the whole hardware store hammer thing.

I’m gonna take that as an implied ‘Thank you’ and respond in kind with a ‘You’re welcome!’.

Yes, I admit, I have a 45ACP H-P as my bedside table gun. First gun I could afford.
Periodically when I go to the range, I take it and bang a few rounds through it, clean it, and put it back in the bedside table drawer.
A pleasure to shoot, but I’d hate to have to carry it.

(PS – do standard 1911 magazines fit/work in the H-P? Or does H-P have a proprietary design?)
