Police: Roanoke Co. homeowner shoots 27-year-old trying to rob his home

ROANOKE Co., Va. (WSET) — Roanoke County Police said a man tried to rob a home in Roanoke County but was instead shot dead.

Police said officers were called to the report of a shooting in the 6000 block of Carefree Lane around 8:55 p.m. Sunday, February 24.

When they got there, they found that a man had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene by Roanoke County Fire and Rescue.

After investigating, police said Frankie E. Cordova, 27, of Roanoke, tried to rob the home.

Caught on Camera: Homeowner shoots at suspect

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has taken to Facebook to warn criminals that homeowners are fighting back.

News 5 spoke with the homeowner. While she wished to remain anonymous, she spoke to our cameras. She said, “It was just fight or flight. You get up, and you don’t know what you’re going to do until you’re in that situation. You can play it in your head however many times you want to, but until you’re put in that situation, you don’t really know what you’re going to do.”

A highly-edited video Team Sheriff posted on Facebook Tuesday shows two people driving up to a mobile home. A man gets out and tries to enter. The video then cuts to the man attempting to quickly get back in the car and flees just in time before the homeowner enters the frame to fire his gun.

Early morning robbery leaves one man shot on Floyd Street

Jackson Police are investigating a shooting from earlier this morning.

Officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Floyd Street.

A male visited the homeowner and attempted to rob him.

The incident resulted in a struggle and the firearm discharged striking the suspect before he fled the scene.

The 23-year-old suspect was located a few blocks away and taken into custody.

Unlicensed Indiana accident victim could face criminal charges

MARCH 1–An Indiana man who yesterday accidentally shot himself in the penis and scrotum does not have a handgun license and could face criminal prosecution, police say.
According to cops, Mark Anthony Jones, 46, suffered an “accidental self-inflicted gunshot injury” while walking early Thursday morning in Marion, Indiana (where Jones resides).

During an interview in the emergency room of Marion General Hospital, Jones said that he was carrying a Hi-Point 9mm handgun in his waistband when the weapon “began to slip.”

Jones said that when he “reached down to adjust” the gun–which was not in a holster–the firearm discharged. “The bullet entered just above his penis and exited his scrotum,” police reported.

Since Jones does not possess a state handgun license, investigators will forward the case to the Grant County Prosecuting Attorney for a determination on whether Jones will face any criminal charges.

Jones, a Marion native, has two felony convictions for narcotics dealing.
