LEXINGTON — The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a man who may have been involved in an attempted home invasion in Lexington.

A press release from the sheriff’s office Friday said deputies were dispatched to a report of an attempted home invasion and shooting at 123 Upton St., Lexington, at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Officers with the Lexington Police Department were the first to arrive on the scene. They located a male, identified as Silvestre Begley, 21, in the front yard of the residence, deceased as a result of a single gunshot wound.

Deputies and detectives with the sheriff’s office took over the investigation.

The homeowner reported that an armed individual attempted to enter his residence and he shot that individual, identified as Begley, in self-defense.

“Begley was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS paramedics”

I did not know they had that authority.
“pronounced” or “declared”, same thing?
I thought that was the legal domain of the ME or another MD. Dead words matter.

CCO

Not an EMS type, but when my uncle passed at home the rescue squad leader called (well, I think I called and he spoke to) the physician. It’s the same state, although years earlier so maybe same laws.
