Tuesday morning feel good stories

| January 2, 2018

From Independence, Missouri;

Police say the caller told them he shot an intruder inside his home.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

Police say the incident should be a wakeup call for criminals.

“Some of these people are going around breaking into homes, they need to know that there could be an armed homeowner who’s going to defend them self if they get into a situation like this,” Independence Police Department Public Information Officer John Syme said.

The suspect is in police custody.

From Tolland, Connecticut;

A homeowner arrived at his house on Peter Green Road at about 6:40 p.m. to find a truck parked in his driveway. The female passenger told him she was lost and the driver was asking directions from a neighbor, police said.

While speaking to the woman, the homeowner heard a noise behind him and turned to see a man running toward him with something in his hand, police said.

“The victim feared for his safety, pulled a handgun that he carries and fired at the male suspect. The suspect got into the pickup truck and fled,” police said.

The homeowner did not injure the man. He is legally licensed to carry the gun, police said.

From Las Vegas, Nevada;

Las Vegas police say a driver who shot and killed a man climbing into his SUV likely won’t be arrested because it was apparently self-defense.

Police Lt. Dan McGrath tells the Review-Journal the driver warned the man before firing the fatal shots late Sunday.

He says the SUV full of people, including a baby, stopped to let another driver know there was a man clinging to his pickup truck.

But when the SUV came to a halt, the man went over to it instead.

McGrath say a teenager in the back seat was fighting off the intruder when the driver grabbed a gun and hit the man with it.

Police say he kept coming and ignored the warning before the driver fired. He died at the hospital. He was not immediately identified.

“told them he shot an intruder inside his home”

Never say that to the police. Better yet, STFU.
Just say there has been a shooting and request an ambulance. Then hang up and render aid..

“I was in fear for my life and defended myself. I will make a full statement with my attorney present.”

I wonder what an attorneys advice would be regarding hanging up. The 911 dispatchers usually want the caller to stay on the line. It could be defense to prosecution as in “I could not render aid sufficiently to keep the intruder alive because I was on the phone with 911. It could also be an aid for PII when the law shows up. It might help to be in some kind of communication with the people showing up at your house with Guns.

Depends on what city and what state. I was told just leave the phone line open, tell the operator you’re putting the phone down but keeping the line open.

However, I do appreciate the warning by the Independence PIO – some people may be armed. Yes, we might be armed. Stay away.

Exactly!

“…a teenager in the back seat was fighting off the intruder when the driver grabbed a gun and hit the man with it.”

Must these reporters produce gobbledygook like this? It’s almost a foreign language now. You have to interpret what the “reporter” meant (and I use ‘reporter’ loosely). In this case, is it safe to assume that the driver grabbed a gun and shot at and hit the hijacker with his good aim?

Sounds okay to me; he tried to use a pistol as a blackjack. When that didn’t subdue the offender, the shot the guy; i.e., a less lethal method was tried before lethal force was used (or I’m confused one).

More range time people, more range time. Always put 3 center mass and one in the brain bucket! I was if fear for my life!

Oh, no. Let it be a surprise
