Trump tells China to keep drone
Last week, China stole an underwater drone out from under the US Navy. The Obama Administration arranged for the equipment to be returned, but the President-elect Tweeted that China should keep it, according to the Navy Times;
The U.S. said that “through direct engagement with Chinese authorities, we have secured an understanding that the Chinese will return” the unmanned underwater vehicle, according to a statement from Peter Cook, spokesman for U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter.
But Trump, after holding a rally to thank supporters for his election, took to Twitter to criticize the deal. “We should tell China that we don’t want the drone they stole back.- let them keep it!” the president-elect tweeted Saturday evening.
I kind of agree – the problem isn’t that they HAVE the drone, the problem is that they thought they could get away with TAKING the thing. The Chinese have already duplicated all of the technology, so getting back won’t change anything. It’s just an opportunity for the Chinese to have us come on bended knee for the return of our own gear. Let them keep it.

I still like the idea of having a self destruct button on those things? Wait until they have it in their lab trying to copy the technology, then, BANG!! Oh, we are sorry,,,,,,NOT!
I second that. Not just C4, add a nice heap of “Willy Pete” for good measure and make any unauthorized critters trying to disassemble it into “Crispy Critters”! WHEN was the last time the ChiComs came up with anything on their own?
Next time, dust the interior components with anthrax. Put a note inside the access panel in Chinese that explains to the tamperer what they’ve just exposed themselves to by opening it, concluding with “Oh, by the way, FUCK YOU!”
A very small tactical thermonuclear device hidden in it would get the point across to them.
How about telling them to stuff the drone up their ass……THEN LIGHT IT OFF!
We can hope that under the new administration this type of flip-off of Americans has consequences.
I like the C4 and Willy Pete suggestion, too.
Take it one step further- load fakes, decoy drones containing NO intel equipment but loaded with high explosives, and set them on a course that will assure their being taken captive. And rig the detonation for ten minutes after the seal is broken. Fun aplenty!!!
Copy the technology???? I got news for youse guys: those parts were probably ALL MADE IN CHINA. They just stole their own junk.
I’d tell them to keep it to, but I do like the idea of loading it with some suspicious-looking stuff, label it ‘POISON – DO NOT TOUCH’ or something, and snort with laughter over their frustrations. Powdered sugar is good. It dissolves in liquids, but gums up the works like crazy.

A Radioactive label or three for good measure?
2nd the motion on the Chinese keeping it.
You guys really need to think creatively.
Rig some drones with stuff that is harmLESS as well as harmFUL. Mix them up. Put a ‘Mission: Impossible’ recording in some: “this drone will self-destruct in XXX seconds”, with the smell of fuses burning and sparks flying out of it, followed by an explosion that renders them inert. Rig others with videos of the Guy Fawkes mask and insane laughter coming out of it, ending with an explosion of LOTS of confetti and US Flags.
Oh, yeah, make sure all the parts are labeled ‘MADE IN CHINA’, even if they weren’t. That should confuse them even more.
They’re only holding onto the one they picked up while they take it apart. Trump’s right. They can keep it. They made all the parts, anyway. Like I said, they’re just getting their own junk back.
OK, Ex-PH2, you are far more creative than I on a Monday morning.
What are you spiking your coffee with, Captain Morgan?
Naw, Graybeard. I have my SEAL team out on the Atlantic, being followed by a pregnant gray whale. Gotta think ahead. I’ll let you know what happens!
Meantime, I was thinking that these drones should include the kind that play endless repetitions of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee movies, if they start tinkering with the innards. And the movies should have translations into various Chinese dialects with REALLY bad accents, so that no one understands them.
Poor precedent, though. The world needs to know, emphatically and clearly…DO NOT MESS WITH THE US. DO NOT MESS WITH OUR PEOPLE. DO NOT TOUCH OUR STUFF. BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO THOSE WHO FORGET THE ABOVE. The world would be a better place.
And for God’s sake will someone take that man’s Twitter account away? Nothing the Democrats have done compares with the damage he inflicts on himself with another ill-advised tweet. The guy has no filter between thought generation and tweeting it.
Indeed, “That Chinese ship just blew the fuck up all of a sudden” might get their attention, but who knows? War over a drone might not be the best of ideas. War over people, sure. But stealing R/C toys on the high seas is unlikely to involve direct threats to American personnel, which is probably why the Chinese figure they’ll get away with it in the first place.
Hence the anthrax idea. We can just say “Told ya not to fuck with our shit!”
“And for God’s sake will someone take that man’s Twitter account away? ”
So you are saying Presidential Candidate Obama, President-Elect Obama and President Obama is not a social media whore?
I guess it is only cool when Obama tweets shit.
Sure, David, precedent. You mean like the USS Pueblo? Know where that US ship is today?
surely you’re not citing that as a GOOD precedent?
Part of the reasons nations get in wars is because someone thinks they can walk all over another and then find that, unreasonably, the walkee decides to push back. When you draw a line in the sand and say “here is our stuff, mess not with it” and mean it – things generally stay more peaceful. You don’t go to war over every little thing… but generally if you let the other guys know that messing in your turf always draws a painful response – they stop messing. Had we unfailingly done so over the last 50 years, do you think we would have the same number of third world players kicking sand in our faces?
No, you wrote about the keep-it stance, “Poor precedent, though.” My point is that this matter does not set precedent. This isn’t the first time someone took our shit and we did not get it back. I used the USS Pueblo as an example. BTW, Trump’s tweet/twit/whatever is, for all purposes legal, just as significant and meaningful as the mailman’s saying it. On the other hand, allowing the Pueblo to be kept by inaction was an official US Gov’t act.
Our current top-of-the-line torpedo is essentially a drone, right?
Buy none, get one free!
Our fish run straight, hot and normal.
Fire away!
If it comes back it will be loaded with viruses and spyware so yea keep it. However they need to pay a price. Sometime somewhere
Fuck the Chinese, cocksuckers.
shouldn’t the US Navy have Id’d the ship that took the drone and sank it? That would have sent a message and a powerful one.
And start WWIII, cause a collapse of the US dollar, and cost us much of the 7th fleet.
All because Trump is an idiot and provoked a response on an issue both sides have regarded as non-negotiable for nearly half a century.
Oh, lookee, lookee here, everybody! The Piuperdink wants to pick a fight again, and it’s only Tuesday!!!
Whatsa matter, Piuperdink? Someone take a wee in your granola this morning? You’re up early for you. Coffee shop closed again for those wretched Christian holidays? OH, but they’re Jewish holidays, too, this time!
Chappi Channukah, Piuperdinkle!
Have a great day. We’ll just wait for WWIII to start. Give us a warning, wouldja??? Most of us are busy.
January 20 2017 can’t get here fast enough.
Trump caused this seizure and his response is idiotic.
Do you think he will suddenly stop being an idiot on January 20th?
What an analysis! Someone who isn’t even in office yet called up the Chinese and told them to seize a US-owned drone! Wow!
Looks like the Piuperdink’s powers of perception are really off-kilter this morning.
You’ve said some truly dumb things, Piuperdink, but that is possibly the dumbest yet.
Trump is a business man. I think his drift is that this is going to be bad for business with the Chicoms screwing themselves with dumb shit like this.
There is going to be a heavy price to pay.
