Turk tanks in Syria
The Associated Press reports that Turkey has sent 20 tanks and five armored personnel carriers into northern Syria. They are accompanying anti-Assad Syrian rebels as they sweep aside ISIS fighters along the Turkey-Syria frontier. Since the operation began on Saturday, seven towns have been liberated.
IS, which once controlled hundreds of miles of territory along the Turkish border and used it to bring in foreign fighters and supplies, now only rules a 21-kilometer (13-mile) stretch of the frontier. The group has suffered a string of defeats in recent months in both Syria and Iraq.
Some 5,000 U.S. and Turkish-backed Syrian rebels have crossed into northern Syria from Turkey to participate in the so-called Euphrates Shield operation, according to local journalist Adnan al-Hussein, who is embedded with the groups.
Meanwhile, the US and Russia are in talks about cooperating to end the conflict in Syria, but they can’t seem to get there from here, according to AFP. Of course, John Kerry has the lead in negotiations with the Russians and we all know what a stellar negotiator Kerry is. Coupled with the Nobel-prize winning President, what could go wrong?
The White House has been reluctant to tether Obama personally to a deal that could well fail.
Earlier truces in Syria have rapidly deteriorated, and Obama warned Sunday that the US was approaching the talks “with some scepticism”.
[…]
The White House is also highly reluctant to offer Putin a high-profile stage to gain international legitimacy after his backing for a regime that has used chemical weapons on civilians.
Obama has steadfastly refused to meet Putin for official talks, instead talking with him in “pull-asides” at closed multilateral meetings.

Yeah, well, I have something opuss can ‘pull aside’.
I don’t know about you but I don’t want that clown touching any part of my person.
Geezis deep-fried cherry pies, I DO wish you guys would occasionally post a spew alert! Just occasionally.
***SPEW ALERT***
There ya go.
Thank you.
Eeeewwww……
We better get our political head out of the sand — or wherever it’s currently stuck — and get thick with the Russians, or this nonsense is NEVER going to end.
Tight. NOT thick. Blanking auto-correct.
Ditto. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, until the battle is won.
We can spit nails at each other.
Anyone have Vlad’s phone number? E-mail address?
Here is the Russian Embassy in DC: Address: 2650 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007 Phone: (202) 298-5700 They actually helped us a few years back. Mrs. HMC’s people are from pre-revolution Russia and came here over 100 years ago. Ancestry.com send a map with a tight circle showing where 95% of her people’s DNA came from by noting it with a very small circle in a section of Eastern Europe/Russia. The other 5% is only maybe a few hundred miles to the West of that tiny circle. We tracked her people to 1800s to a tiny town. Problem is, this town is no longer on the map, having apparently been destroyed by Germany in WW2. It was never repopulated per the Russian Embassy people. They speak perfect English, BTW, which makes sense since they are probably listening in on wideload’s phone conversations in real time. I would refer to her as The Soviet, but that moniker has been copyrighted by someone (DH ?). Referring to her as Mrs. HMC does not honor her own military service as a SP4. It suggests her contribution as a dependa, although that designation, IMO, is also worthy of consideration. A good dependa can make or break a troop. I’ve seen far too many breaks caused by an unsupportive dependa. I may refer to her as Mrs. SP4/HMC. I’ll give it some thought. Anyhoo, we contacted the Russian Embassy and they sent us a bunch of links for research as well as some literature/maps about the history of Pre-Soviet Russia. They sent a lot of stuff, maps and stuff, by mail. They were actually very helpful. Since then, though, my mailman/mailwoman has been dressed in a suit and wears dark glasses. Their mail truck is always a Crown Vic with blacked out windows. I think something is going on. Mrs. SP4/HMC says not to worry, we’re too old to be a threat to anyone but ourselves. She also says we should just ignore the white van parked outside the house the past few years. Seems legit. If you get Vlad’s email address, how about… Read more »
Oh, I know what to do now. I’ll just write a letter to Vlad, mail it to the Russian embassy and ask them to forward it to him, and advise them that I will be publishing it in my ‘Dear Vlad’ *Big Fan* column, so I’d appreciate his direct answers.
I mean, after all, if Misha Gorbachev can invite some kid from the USA to visit a summer camp for Soviet kids, because she was worried about The Bomb at that time, surely Vlad can take a few minutes out of his busy day of tormenting Chechens to answer letters from a *Big Fan*.
Right???
Turkey, a NATO member, invades a sovereign country with combat troops without permission.
We used to call that an act of war.
And if the conditions were reversed, Turkey would be screaming for Article V help from the rest of NATO.
I think Turkey has the right to secure it’s border.
They could secure their border inside their own country.
But instead invaded another country.
Now go Google Hitler and Czechoslovakia in regards to how this excuse has been used by others.
And remember this works in reverse.
So you’re of the thinking that if some yahoos fired missiles into El Paso from somewhere in Mexico, we wouldn’t be justified in going after them?
Same thing…
Using your example.
Sending in tanks and infantry into Mexico no matter the reason without Mexico’s permission is an act of war.
Think if this happened in reversed. You would be screaming how America was invaded no matter the reason.
So are you going to burn your draft card, too? You should register as a conscientious objector, just in case the draft is reinstated here.
America has already been invaded by Mexico. But more to the point-if the Mexican government was in the same state of chaos as Syria, we’d already have 2 Divisions or more on their side of the border.
Did you know in the 1920s-1930s there was actually a ‘plan’ for the US to invade Canada? The plan apparently was purely contingent based on development of other scenarios. Here’s the link below. Maybe we can invade Canada. We wouldn’t have to travel that far. Better yet, if we want to destroy them, we should just give the Detroit. That should do the trick. Oh, maybe throw in Chicago. (Apologies to those with links to/affinity for Chicago/Detroit.)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Plan_Red
Chicago’s too far from the Canuck border.
In the example given, somebody in Mexico fired rockets into the U.S. How is that not an act of war, worthy of a response-in-kind?
Bingo. We have a winner!
Oh dude, i am so pass your fake outrage and fake morality.
If Turkey wants to take a shot at ISIS, they are welcome to it. If anyone wants to take a shot at ISIS they have my applause. Aftet all, our community organizer in chief aint organizing this mess any time soon.
Too bad we can’t hire Executive Outcomes to deal with them. That old South African outfitt was the bang. But 80% of their employees were black africans and those racissss in the UN forced their disbandment.
So, who is on which side now? Is there a leader board or a score card I can use?
I think I can handle this negotiation a whole lot better than that sKerry asshole. Anyone have Vlad’s phone number?
I don’t see it in the current DSN directory.
Well, you’ve got team a$$hole, team butthole and team anus. And, although they’re all fiercely opposed to one another, they each produce similar outcomes.
team a$$hole, team butthole and team anus
^^^^
Ex, send an Email to Hillary Clintoons server, Vlad will have it later this afternoon.
Thank you all for your help.
PH: (Remember, I reinstated you) please see my above post re the Russian Embassy. They really will take your call and will be helpful. I’ve called them.
Thank you.
With B. Hussein 0bama & Company at the helm, we’re fucked. What have they ever touched that they DIDN’T turn to complete SHIT?
I know,,,, Obamacare,,, NO,, never mind.
The economy,,, no,, not that either.
Foreign relations?? Again,,, no
Well,,, there is the Obama phone program! It’s great for some folks I guess.
Sorry, this was meant to be a responses to API.
Saw a government/media (same thing) release last week which, I believe, showed the unemployment rate at less than 5%. This is fantasy at the highest level. There are tens of millions who have left the workforce b/c they can not get a job. Those numbers don’t include recent college graduates with a degree in interpretative dance who are living in mommy’s basement crying the blues.
Yep. I keep hearing the same BS . A lot of the current regime’s supporters keep saying that (like bill maher. Yeah I watch his stupid ass. I also watch CNN and MSNBC as well as Fox and read Huffpo and Drudge. I want to hear all sides, even if 9 out of 10 of em are full of shit).
I was reading some story (by a nobody)just before coming here about how Reagan’s trickle down economics is a failure. Poor dumb bastard didn’t take into account the 16 years of democrat presidents and more than that of democrat congresses that have made a mess of EVERYTHING.
Don’t think that I am giving the republicans a pass. Most of them are right in there with the dems, screwing the people to get what they want. I’m a conservative, not a republican. The GOP just happens to be the best choice I have, for now.
Tell you what. I’ll send Vlad an invite to dinner. Chicken Kiev, boiled potatoes with butter and finely grated Asiago, pencil-thin green beans, salad verte with a lemon vinaigrette, and turtle cheesecake. No borscht. I detest beets, period.
We can solve all those silly problems in the space about 20 minutes, get things signed, sealed and delivered and I can take him for a tour of my local Walmart.
Probably wouldn’t impress him much, but they just put self-checkouts in place over the weekend.
While you guys are chit-chatting, ask him what he thinks about Obama publicly supporting Kaepernick during his latest press conference in China. I’m sure that’ll be worth a chuckle…
Forget Vlad … with a spread like that, you should invite the entire lot of TAH miscreants.
You might consider a Vlad Beer Summit. Seems to be popular with the tool in my White House. Don’t invite the tool, though.
I have an even better idea. He could fly into the local airport, which now takes international flights. I can meet him there and we can go have a picnic and barbecue in the forest preserve, then give him the tour of my county, which is still full of farms and farmers, then downtown to the Field Museum, the Aquarium and the planetarium, and a ride back on the commuter train. Craft beers are available in several local restaurants and good food, too. It’s a shame that county and state fair season is over. We could have a helluva good time watching draft horse stoneboat pulls.
Kerry will probably give Michigan to Putin.
