Captain Joshua Rodriguez joins “Deadliest Catch” crew

The folks at the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch program wrote to tell us about the newest member of their crew, Captain Joshua Rodriguez, a Ranger-qualified Armor officer who has deployed to Afghanistan three times. Tomorrow night at 8 PM will be their “Bait Show” – a preview of the coming season.

Category: Who knows
Wouldn’t a Navy or Coast Guard guy had made more sense? Or do they know something we don’t, like the crabs now have as ISIS element in their ranks?
The Navy is worried about a different kind of crab…….
A blond is walking down the beach with her boyfriend when she sees some crabs.
“What are those?” She says.
“They’re crabs” he replies
“Wow! I’m sure glad I got rid of mine before they grew up!”
Okay…without further information as to why he is participating in this show, I don’t have much to say, except I would think he would be able to find something better to do with his life than to risk it crab-fishing.
I have no more info than you, but have watched the show in the past. I think they have a studio in Seattle where guests join the cast on their “wrap-up show” following the actual crabbing episode. None of the special guests on that “wrap-up show” have actually been out crabbing from what I have seen.
They have had other ex military guys on and two of them failed miserably. It take a special type of person to work on the boats. The cold and wet and lack of sleep does many a greenhorn in. They do however make a lot of money if they are on the right boat. Good luck CPT Rodriguez.
Is he still active duty?
Crazy Crazy and crazy. Good Luck.
He isn’t joining the crew on a fishing expedition. The Deadliest Catch captains are comparing roles/responsibilities with military captains.
There’s an apples to cantaloupes comparison if I ever saw one.
I didn’t actually go on the ship. As a few others mentioned, it was an opportunity to discuss he similarities between two jobs that risk the highest of stakes to succeed. I’ll leave the seas to the pros! Yes I’m active duty.
– CPT Rodriguez
Good on you! Thanks for dropping by…come back sometime.
Welcome home, Sir! Having experienced both, RVN 1967-68 and commercial fishing(Not Alaska, but Puget Sound), I`d have to give the nod to fishing vs showing up at a gunfight every day.
If you watch the show, you’d understand what he is doing. “The Bait” is NOT “the Deadliest Catch”…it’s a lead in show that takes place before each episode of Deadliest Catch (think ESPN’s College Gameday Show). It is filmed in a Studio and features the Captains as well as several deck bosses talking about different things that take place. They also have a segment called “Captain to Captain” where they talk to someone else who has the title Captain and compare/contrast the differences between being Captain of a crab boat and a Captain somewhere else. So far this season they’ve had: an Alaskan Airlines airline Captain, a Coast Guard Cutter Captain, the Port of Seattle Police Chief/Captain. Yes it is an apples to cantaloupes comparison…but the segment is more in the nature of good fun and talking about the different kinds of responsibilities various kinds of Captains have…
Thanks for the description. I’ve grown beyond weary of contrived reality show bullshit, to the point I refuse to watch. I may check this out, though.
Thank for the TV Guide guide!
Does the “D” stand for doctor?
God Bless America!
Seems a Ranger or SEAL-type could handle crabbin’. Lack of sleep wouldn’t be anything new. Neither would being cold or wet. Or all the above.
But it would STILL suck…
The “S” in SEAL stands for sleep y’know.
According to the books written by Richard Marcinko (CPT, USN, Ret,0. SEAL stans for “Sleep, Eat, and Live it up”!
I just had an authorized party in head …. OUTSTANDING!
“Deadliest Catch” IS my favorite show!
Second is the “Gas Monkey” thing.
Third is “Project Runway”.
And a close fourth is “Rosie” re-runs!
Good on him and the show.
I have NEVER missed an episode.
Although I have fast-fowarded through the crack head fuctcker on most ocassions.
Not a sniper? Not Recon? Not a POW?
I’m not gonna believe a word of it.
3:)
Sorry to disappoint – not a sniper, though I had two awesome snipers in my platoon. Also wasn’t a POW, and not disappointed in the least to say that. We were however, Recon…if that helps, ha.
Scouts Out!
Good to hear from you Sir, COME BACK AND SEE US!
Did the Army change the regulation about officers wearing the German Shooting Award? Looks like he has the award in gold without the lanyard. I have the bronze but the regulation used to prohibit me from wearing it.
He is wearing the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency in Gold. Officers are authorized to wear it IAW AR 600-8-22.
Ah yes…I do the same thing. I always look at other servicemembers uniforms for mistakes. I can assure you that after being an aide to an awesome general. I’m well within the regs
With all due respect Captain, I don’t look at anyone (except phonies on this site) for uniform mistakes; and you certainly are the real deal. However, when I see something I don’t recognize, I ask. Please reread my post, I asked a question, plain and simple. Having supported the 2/75th at Fort Lewis and (as a civilian DPCA)the desert training phase when it was at DPG, having named the new DPG fitness center after my friend(deceased) Acting SGM Donnie Shocklee, and with my proudest coin being one from 3/75th presented by an NCO for support after we lost 11 good men in the Great Salt Lake on a major CIA fuck-up, the LAST thing I would do is disparage a Ranger.
Rangers Lead the Way!
I can vouch for that myself, I earned the silver version of that badge, and i sport it on my ASU’s.
“military efficiency in gold”??
Is that like being a really good jeweler or something?
If I were picking, being military, I’d prefer to be extremely efficient in LEAD…
