Soldier heroes

BinhTuy66 sends us a link to the story of Sgt. Mike Black, Sgt. Todd Richter and Specialist Joshua April who were driving home after a night of guard duty at White Sands when they came across an automobile accident. Black grabbed his medic bag as they went to see if they could help. With gasoline pouring from the vehicle, Black got to work on Linda Hartman. From Yahoo Shine;

Upon seeing Hartman, Black recalls, “I saw how serious her condition was.” He saw a “fair amount of blood” and realized that her bone had pierced her femoral artery—an injury that could cause death in a matter of minutes. He immediately began applying a tourniquet, as Richter sat behind Hartman and held her hand, he says. “The gravity of the situation really hit home at that point.”

Hartman somehow managed to remain lucid. “I asked Sgt. Black if I was dying and he said, ‘I have to get this tourniquet on.’ I remember him talking to me, asking me all kinds of questions—do I have kids, do I have animals, anything to keep me awake. And then he said, ‘This is going to hurt.’”

Black has been recommended for the Soldier’s Medal for his heroic actions which saved not only Ms. Hartman’s life, but also her legs.

Well done, men. Damn well done.

That’s a helluva story. The ambo turned back–the bird couldn’t land–and these “guardian angels” as Ms. Hartman called her rescuers, got busy.

Well done indeed!! Reading the story she still has a long way to go in her recovery, but at least she is alive due to the actions of those Soldiers.

Well done!

Old Tanker

The medal should be a no-brainer.

Bravo Zulu Soldiers!

God bless’em, every one!

Wow, I never cease to be amazed by these stories. Three young men who clearly represent the best and brightest of our young people selflessly risking their lives to save another. It happens all the time across the nation and the lame stream media can’t be bothered to note this on a national scale. It would be nice if the 4ssholes on the left and right coast would occasionally remember there is an entire nation between those coasts. And that space in the middle is where millions of decent hard working Americans live, and what happens there is worthy of a mention now and again.

Thank you gentlemen, for reminding America what service to nation is all about. May the good Lord bless you and keep you safe.

BRAVO ZULU, Troops!!

What VOV said.

@7 The reason the coasts don’t bother mentioning the middle, VOV, is because it’s so…you know…embarassingly AMERICAN.

Not progressive enough for them, I guess.

If they were on the road from White Sands to Ft. Bliss area, there are some lonely stretches on that road and at night almost no traffic. In all lieklihood, any additional help was miles away – they for sure saved her from bleeding out before additional help arrived. Even on highway 70 at the other end of post, it’s several miles of nothing in both directions.

Good to go!! BZ!!

Think what the odds are of a medic and fellow airman finding her and rendering proper first aid. Not only keeping her from bleeding to death but out of shock too? Joe

@13. Good call. There are no coincidences. Maybe that’s why she calls them her guardian angels!
