Kerry defends decision to use force on Syria

| August 30, 2013

Ya know what? If I was the president, I don’t think I’d send out someone who more than half of the country polled in a general election expressed distrust to explain my case. Kerry, rightly said that we don’t have to take his word for anything, and I certainly wouldn’t. Kerry’s TV appearance today was based solely on emotion and not even a little bit on proven facts. You can watch the video at this link, if you can stand to listen to that voice.

All he proves is that which we already know – someone used some sort of poison gas on a large number of people, but he doesn’t offer any proof that it was indeed the Assad regime.

“I’m not asking you to take my word for it,” Kerry said, urging people to read the report. “This is what Assad did to his own people.”

Kerry called Bashar Assad a “thug” and a “murderer” who must not be allowed to escape retribution for the attack.

The intelligence assessment said the U.S. government has “high confidence” that the Syrian government carried out the chemical attack using a nerve agent.

The report said preliminary findings show 1,429 people were killed in the attack, including at least 426 children.

I have no doubt that someone used gas on those people, but what I don’t know is who actually pulled the trigger and what we plan to do about it, and how that intended plan will prevent the next attack, and how will preventing that attack make us safer? these are the same questions that Biden, Kerry and Obama demanded of President Bush, but now they seem less inclined to answer those same questions.

The Bush Administration took two or three dozens of countries in their coalition, the Obama Administration has only the country that wasn’t in that coalition – France. the Bush Administration couldn’t get approval from the Security Council, and regardless of how the UN inspectors report from Syria, the Obama Administration won’t get the Security Council’s approval either.

At least Hussein presented a real threat to us by supporting terrorists outside their borders and a real threat to the UN pilots enforcing the no-fly zone. Syria threatens Israel and Turkey, but they don’t have a capability to threaten us.

If our goal is to merely punish the Assad regime, it goes against the principles of waging war. The purpose of military power is to defeat an enemy, not to spank them and send them to a corner wearing a dunce’s hat.

Kerry admits that there is no military solution in Syria, yet here he is proposing a military solution. No wonder he missed his opportunity to be President.

I still don’t see anyone telling us why we need to stop ragheads killing ragheads. Ain’t neither one of ’em our ragheads. No dog in this fight.

PintoNag

What David said. And I still don’t see why France wants to get involved.

FltMedic

France wants to get involved for the same reason our idiot of a president wants to get involved….. They want the distraction from the horrendous job they have done at wrecking their respective countries…

Nothing to see here but wagging the dog…

OWB

Any odds on how much WMD is now back in Iraq?

OWB

Oh, and France is interested because the lovely Mr. sKerry speaks French, you know.

Ex-PH2

The French still have nukes. Maybe they want to do a test run?

Ex-PH2

Oh, yeah – kerry said something about how important it is to ‘our credibility’. Our credibility will be far higher if we stay the H— OUT of it.

ohio

And the traitor Kerry, could not name which agent was used nor definitive proof that Assad was the perp. Don’t know about everyone else but to me a ketchup bottle has more credibility and serves a more useful purpose. 0bama chose a stone cold liar to speak for him. And did I mention that he is a traitor?

Veritas Omnia Vincit

So as I understand it we are talking about WMDs but this time it’s okay for the left because it’s their guy in the white house?

And John effing Kerry is advocating for the use of force?

This would be the point that, if I were on medication I’d be looking at having it adjusted because I think I am hallucinating….

OWB

He was against it before he was for it.

Ex-PH2

VOV, don’t be so sure. Even DIFI seems to be backing away from supporting a sole effort by the US.

Note: she clearly says ‘international’.

Oops! Are those skid marks behind the Bodaprez meme?

@8. Nice reference about the ketchup bottle. I totally got it.

Kerry doesn’t want me to take his word for it? GOOD. I never have and I never will. If John Kerry told me the sky was blue, I’d walk outside and look up just to make sure.

PintoNag

@5 Probably just enough to get his face slapped.

I found myself wondering why the Sec of State was giving a speech justifying military action. Isn’t it his job to be scrambling around looking for a peaceful, DIPLOMATIC solution to the problem? Seems he undermined that option and volunteered to inspect the very crowded bottom of the bus.

Combat Historian

Fuck off, kerry; go back to Paris and stay there…

J.M.

They spend the last few years gutting us and putting combat readiness on the back burner in favor of ‘gender normalized standards’ (or whatever the F*** they are calling it this week) and weekly Sharp training and collective guilt sessions for males. And now they want us to go into Syria? Blood will be on their hands.

Ex-PH2

Oh, M. le sKerry may speak French, but I’d bet le putaing doesn’t know slang. Il ne parle pas pour moi ou pour vous-memes, parce qu’il est de merde.

@14 Yes! wonder if anyone else in the whole friggin US noticed that. And John “Jungle Stroll w/ Cameraman” Kerry says not to trust him? Not a problem. It’s the first good piece of advice he ever bleated.

“Oh, look, look at the bodies! Look at the children! We must blow up something to stop this. Huh? It’ over? Okay, we must blow up something to punish this! Huh? Prrof? Look at the bodies. Look at the children!”

The wicked witch Hilarious Canckles must be feeling a huge sense of relief…sucks to be Jawn Forbes Kawrry right now (left a cushy Senate gig for this?).

Bill C

Didn’t Colin Powell do about the same thing before the UN. How did that work out and what did Kerry say at the time about that presentation?

DaveO

Kerry didn’t ‘miss’ his chance to be POTUS. He was fired by America before he could do any damage. It is unknown if Obama was in America and witnessed the firing.

Ex-PH2

This is the most recent info I could find on the chemical attacks. The article indicate that the UN inspectors are leaving earlier than planned, but the sealed samples will go to independent labs under close guard. They’ll report the results next week. Read it carefully. The WH has no control over this. For once, that makes me happy.

I’ll bet this procedure just frosts the livin’ daylights out of the jokers in WDC.

Adirondack Patriot

Will someone please ask John Kerry this:

“How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Syria?”

Bill C

Or how about to be the first to die in Syria.

jonp

The Messiah needs to intervene to save his Muslim Brotherhood buddies asses.
Dollars to donuts it was those terrorist bastards that gassed their own people to get Obama to do their dirty work. How would everyone like another Brotherhood Government set up in Syria? Went so well in Egypt.

jonp

@22: All it will show is that chemical weapons were used not by whom. The bigger question which no-one seems to be asking is where did they come from? Iraq anyone? Remember when people said that the WMD’s in Iraq were heading into Syria and everyone in the media and the leftests scoffed and attacked Bush for attacking Iraq when no WMD’s were there? Guess what, there they are

UpNorth

@26. To add to the point you made, what delivery system was used? There should be empty shells, rockets, spray cans, whatever. If none, was the agent delivered by air? As the Hezbies have rockets, and the Palleys have rockets and the Syrians and Al Qaeda do too, how does one tell who fired what at who?
“The purpose of military power is to defeat an enemy, not to spank them and send them to a corner wearing a dunce’s hat.” Not in this case. The purpose is to make sure that Baracka looks good, and to erase that red line he drew those many months ago.

DirtDart

I have no fear to do my duty. I am a sword- but I have no desire for this fight. Now if they attack our allies or interest directly: Bring it. But if I read the situation correctly- the rebels used Chem weapons first in the hopes that someone would throw out the current govt and than in a pissing match the Govt used it right back hoping to put the fear in the rebels.

I have no wish for the cadets and joe’s I trained to get in this fight- for these reasons.

What a goat screw…

CI Roller Dude

I’ll use a quote from Hillary: “What does it matter?”
Let them gas and kill all of them all, then let Allah sort it out.

My boss, who I like and respect immensely, is a former Air Force SP, and last week, he sent his oldest son to college on a USAF OCS appointment. I came down for outbrief and the boss was talking (to another boss) about how we “gotta do something” in Syria because of the dead babies (about which I am not unsympathetic, mind you.)

So I asked him: “Do you think 100,000 Syrian kids would be worth the life of your son, or any other American servicemember?”

“Well, no, but ….”

“Thank you, I rest my case.”

RM3(SS)

Heard that Kerry is ready to lead the charge in the first swiftboat into Syria. He’s already written himself up for a SS and PH that will be forthcoming.

A Proud Infidel

Where are the people that asked Bush the questions like “What’s our exit strategy?” etc.? Here we have B. Hussein 0bama at the helm and about to do us even more irreparable harm and the DNC’s lackeys in the mess media continue to incessantly kiss his arse!

USMCE8Ret

Who wants to bet if this all goes down the way we think it will, Barry will be on vacation playing golf or rubbing elbows with celebretards, no where to be seen, while Jay Smarmy gives us the updates?

“Hello, Assy? B. Hussein here. Look, Assy, I’m gonna have to send a few missiles your way. Wait! Hear me out. I know you’re upset. Just listen. Nobody gets hurt. I just want to save some face here so I want your help. I need the coordinates for, oh, two or three sites that I can blow up. When we’re all set, I’ll call you back with the launch time. Oh–and check your account. If you play ball, there will be an extra 10 million in it. Asa lama lakum.”

Glory hunting, chest thumping, loud mouth, highly decorated Hero, back stabbing his own fellow former servicemen and disrespecting their service for their country. That’s what I see in Kerry, just another a$$hole with a high opinion of himself with a story.
Too bad this one is in charge of the people like he winter soldiered so long ago, I imagine he won’t mind getting a few troops killed.

Devtun

Bam undercut Kerry. Prez is gonna wait for congress to come back from recess on 9 Sep for long process of debate and up/down vote…in mean time he’s gonna travel to Sweden, Russia and attend fund raising events. He’s going to shift the responsibility for Syria on Congress (hoping they vote against force) and give Barry a way out. He’s punting/chickening out – when did Barry give a crap about congressional approval before?

Devtun

MSNBC reporting Obama is….playing golf.

PFM

I’ve been on the Syrian border and didn’t then or now see any reason to be there. All of you lucky souls familiar with the beautiful vistas of western Iraq have pretty much seen all there is to see – enough said.

DaveO

Jonn, you are incorrect: Bush had a unanimous decision from the UN supporting action against Saddam Hussein.

“United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441 is a United Nations Security Council resolution adopted unanimously by the United Nations Security Council on 8 November 2002, offering Iraq under Saddam Hussein “a final opportunity to comply with its disarmament obligations” that had been set out in several previous resolutions (Resolution 660, Resolution 661, Resolution 678, Resolution 686, Resolution 687, Resolution 688, Resolution 707, Resolution 715, Resolution 986, and Resolution 1284).”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Security_Council_Resolution_1441

While the parallels are interesting, at the end of the day, the Prognazis will not be able to mentally process the politics of attacking Syria. The laws involved, the international politics, the strategies and tactics – these are things that current college students and graduates can not begin to comprehend.

Ex-PH2

DaveO, are you talking about the ripple effect of a pre-emptive unilateral strike?

If you are, in this case in particular, and taking the participants on both sides into consideration, the ripple effect might be strong enough to swallow even those unwilling to participate.

The comparison is the initial tsuanmi of the 12/26/2004 Sumatra quake, which swept ashore on the east African coast, Madagascar, and India and reached as far to the east as Hawaii and California, and then rebounded as all waves do. And we know that over a quarter of a million people died as a result. The point is that it did not hit just one place or one society, it hit many and rebounded to hit others.

That comparison, when applied to a possible US-Syria confrontation, will be 100 times more costly in every possible way. There is no ‘can, could or would’ in this. The reason is that an actual count of AQs/Taliban, PLO, Hezbollah, and any other disgruntled individuals has never been taken or understood. They are everywhere, and like some cockroaches, they are not afraid when the lights go on.

This is a loaded keg of dynamite, not a political decision. And if that jackass in the White House is worried that he won’t appear to be ‘manly enough’ by backing down, he can quit worrying. He isn’t even manly enough to tie his own shoes.

Sorry about the rant. Just a bit pissed off. And the protests are growing, no hippies in sight so far. I have pictures.
