A confession
For those of you who have been watching the comedic drama in the Dallas Wittgenfeld discussion; we’ve had his orders for his CIB for months. Well, Hondo had the orders and emailed me about them. So, I’ll admit that I was wrong when I guessed that he didn’t deserve the CIB. Having admitted that, since we had the orders, we didn’t bring up the issue again, mostly because Wittgenfeld also claimed to have a Bronze Star Medal with a “V” in interviews and because he claimed that somehow he was authorized to wear the green beret. Now he claims that reporters got the story wrong and his sole defender thinks that sending us a set of orders for an Army Commendation Medal with a “Valor” device somehow proved that his claims of the Bronze Star are true. So which is it? Did the reporters get the story wrong or is an ARCOM with a “V” the same thing as a BSM?
We’ve never questioned the ARCOM, so sending the orders for it just plugged up my inbox with more crap.
I apologize that we didn’t come clean on the CIB sooner, and by the way, the Wittgenfeld Stolen Valor Cabal just coughed the orders up last night, he’s been telling us for months that he had the orders, too, but never produced them.

Timmy, justlookattits (sorry Ex-PH2) n sf juicy…just how far are your collective noses up “whatthefucks” ass or how many times a day does he give you sissy boys blow jobs? The “HONORABLE” membership here has apologized for discrediting dullASS his claim of a CIB, etc. They, myself included refuse to apologize for his lies that have been disproven. HE has yet to apologize for being disrespectful of other combat veterans. He’s called them bitches, pussies, bastards, etc., yeah real honorable.
For myself, I will continue to call a COWARD. I have challenged him, repeatedly, to give me a time and place where we could meet to settle our differences but he has yet to respond. I’ve sent my contact information to Mr. Lilyea, who has more honor in his left nut, than you poor retards combined, yet “Chicken Liver” dullASS won’t call! Why won’t this Special Forces trained assassin, jungle trail killer, airborne Ranger ‘hero’, combat wounded veteran wanna meet a one tour ‘combat arms’ Marine for a face-to-face? Maybe he knows what the outcome will be? Yepper, keep your noses up his ass or enjoy your daily blow jobs from him.
Hondo I write this without an accusatory tone but with an honest question?
You wrote and I quote “Without the O5B USAR-V exception, Wittgenfeld would still be SOL. His SMOS orders are dated 22 Oct 1969. His ARCOM/V action was 21 Oct 1969 – the day prior – so that action probably wouldn’t count. And in any case, his ARCOM/V citation clearly shows him performing duties as an RTO – not an infantryman. So even if Wittgenfeld’s 11B SMOS was deemed to have been effective earlier than 22 Oct 1969, it wouldn’t count. As his ARCOM/V citation shows, he was serving as an 05B that day vice as an 11B. ”
“Wittgenfeld was a RTO in a Ranger unit in combat. Kudos to him for that. That’s hard duty. But USAR-V apparently let him – and many others – qualify for the CIB anyway through local exception to policy when by DA regulation they did not. That is how he got his CIB.”
If your opinion is correct then why were all the multitude of other non-Infantry MOS’ who were awarded the SMOS 11B and 11F on that set of orders also awarded the CIB?
Hondo my question is not a slam on you. Like you, sometimes, I just want to know why.
Tim
It’s called “taking care of the troops”, Ramey. Sometimes a unit’s chain-of-command will bend the rules (or ignore them entirely) to take care of their folks. Some units are notorious for taking liberties along those lines. USAR and ARNG units in particular often get accused of doing exactly that – but some regular Army units are equally guilty.
Hell, that happens even today. Every so often you hear of “blanket orders” being put in for CIBs for everyone in a unit. Unless everyone in the whole freaking unit was engaged, that’s also BS. But I’m pretty certain it happens from time to time.
I have no problem with anyone getting whatever the regs allow, provided it’s legit. And I have no issue with the chain-of-command taking care of their troops – provided they do so within the limits imposed by applicable regs. But I rather have a problem with folks disregarding the regs entirely to do that.
Now, regarding all the other folks on that list: the CIBs may be legit, or some may be “cheapies”. They’re unconditionally legit if the individuals (1) actually worked as Infantry, and (2) engaged in ground combat after the effective date their infantry MOS was awarded. If not, then either they’re not really legit or they’re due to an exception. If (as it seems) USAR-V made an exception for 05B RTOs of infantry units, well, then that’s also legit given that DA didn’t overrule USAR-V on the matter. I’m relatively convinced that’s the case, though I’d like to see the reg for myself.
Had Wittgenfeld not been such an ass, he could have saved everyone the trouble by simply providing Jonn a redacted copy of his CIB orders when questioned. Instead, he decided to be an attention whore and a total jerkwad. His service was indeed honorable, and he apparently rates his CIB through a recognized USAR-V exception to policy concerning RTOs for Infantry units in Vietnam.
His service was honorable. The man? Not so much.
Hondo, what are you doing? Hallowe’en is over, isn’t it? Well, the zombie is back in the other place. Do I have to get Pumpkinhead out here to kill it?
