‘Arc de Trump,’ America’s Arc de Triomphe

President Donald Trump plans an Arc de Triomphe-style monument for Washington D.C. The effort to make this a possibility received the nickname “Arc de Trump.” The intent will be to commemorate the U.S.’s 250th anniversary. Three models were presented, a small, medium and large. Trump preferred the large model. The proposed monument will be seen by people crossing Memorial Bridge from Arlington National Cemetery into the heart of Washington D.C.

From Fox News:

A reportedly privately funded monument, dubbed the “Arc de Trump,” is planned to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary next year, the latest in a series of renovation and design projects the former real estate developer has pursued since returning to the White House. Trump offered a glimpse of the project last week in the Oval Office, showing a model positioned on a rendering of the National Mall.

At a White House ballroom fundraising dinner on Wednesday, Trump shared additional details about the newest monument planned for the nation’s capital. He said he was presented with three arch models in varying sizes — small, medium and large — and said his preference was for the largest one.

The monument, a near twin of Paris’s iconic Arc de Triomphe, is meant to welcome visitors crossing the Memorial Bridge from Arlington National Cemetery into the heart of the nation’s capital.

It’s unclear when construction on the arch will begin or how much it will cost. Trump said Wednesday evening that remaining funds from the new White House ballroom project will go toward financing the arch.

The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for further comment.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has begun construction on a 90,000-square-foot White House ballroom. The sprawling addition, announced in July, will accommodate approximately 650 seated guests and will stay true to the classical design of the White House.

Privately funded ballroom. Yes, I agree the White House, the home of our President and the showplace of our Nation should have a ballroom space.

Privately funded memorial arch. I don’t care one way or the other but I do believe we deserve a great, big, beautiful monument to recognize 250 years of this experiment we call the United States of America.

We are, and God willingly will remain, the Shining City on the Hill for another 250 years.

And, it is privately funded? That’s the icing on the cake.

Yes Ma’am!! I agree with you 100%. Some citizens have more flesh in deserving it more than the rest. I mean you!

RGR 4-78

I’ll start the ball rolling on the conspiracy theory.

What exactly will be built under the new ballroom?

SFC D

The dance floor will be retractable. A hockey rink underneath.

Graybeard

When the ice is melted, it reveals a gladiator pit with lions in which to throw recalcitrant (D)emon-rats.

Odie

Great idea. It’s possible it as may have already been suggested even if in passing or jest.

MCPO USN

If you build it, they will come……

Slow Joe

I would have preferred a more American monument. I guess we are copying the French now. The one in Paris is impressive, but an imperial monument, not something celebrating liberty or freedom.

Did anyone propose a different type of monument?

26Limabeans

I propose a gigantic middle finger facing east.

CWORet

What the hell, make it a pair of them.

Army-Air Force Guy

I agree along those lines. Something like the USMC memorial at Arlington cemetery, or maybe a giant eagle clutching an American flag with it’s talons.

Hack Stone

You would want a monument featuring an eagle, because the Woke Left has informed us that eagles = Nazis. Henceforth, the NFL team from Philadelphia will be known as The Philadelphia Nazis. 🤨

Maybe the Donald thinks he might ultimately become the Emperor of the Western Hemisphere.

Messkit

The Arc de Triomphe was built to celebrate the defeat of that OTHER well known Emperor of alleged short stature, who met his demise at Waterloo.

Slow Joe- The French Arch is an idea taken from the Romans. The Romans mostly built their triumphal arches during the Republic Era. During the Imperial era Augustus decreed that arches for victory could only be built for the royal family members who won major battles. Since the royal family practically never went to war this curtailed the building quite a bit and saved money otherwise spent on ego projects.

Slow Joe

The Roman arches begun during the Late Republic, usually commemorating an actual Triumph awarded by the Senate to victors, but there were plenty built during the imperial period, from the Arch of Titus to the Arch of Constantine.

Regardless, the one in France is definitely an imperial monument, not from a republic, as Napoleon was already emperor when he commissioned its design and started construction, though it was only finished after the Restoration under one of the Louis.

Not a Lawyer

Titus and Constantine were both royals, with Constantine succeeding to emperor and the arch commemorating that victory. I have to say it is very impressive in person and the pictures don’t do it justice. The Empire was in steep decline by then and would be gone within about 150 years.

Screeching moonbats protesting against it in 5, 4, 3,…

rgr769

If this doesn’t get the screeching
“No Kings” moonbats going ballistic, nothing will.

SFC D

If there’s no screeching, I don’t want it.

rgr769

That sound shows we are over the target.

AW1Ed

Need to name it the Arc de Trollmaster.

RGR 4-78

Word among the E-4 Mafioso is that it will have hidden Phalanx installed for air defense and crowd control. 😉

SFC D

I’m totally onboard with the idea of a monument to commemorate 250 years, I’m not all that big on the design, though. It won’t matter what the design is, the loony left will say it’s a monument to Trump. So be it.

Odie

They claim anything Trump does is either illegal, immoral or just to stroke his ego. Trump 28 (attn: commisar).

Slow Joe

If it is an arch, will it be bigger than the one in Paris?
How about an arch like the one in Saint Louis, but bigger?

I am not big on monuments. I would rather make a building full of restaurants and night clubs, and stores and movie theaters. Free market capitalism is the best way to celebrate 250 years of liberty.
Let the empires build their monuments.
We build a free market economy.

Hack Stone

Discussing erecting monuments to commemorate America’s 250th birthday less than 9 months from the event is like gathering all your tax records at 23:45 on April 15. Sure, you could make the deadline, but it’s not likely.

CDR D

Rome is in the early stages of planning the city’s Tri-millennial which takes place in April 2347.

They have an annual celebration every April.

Privately funded. Yeah. Pull the other one.

Yes.
