Government Shutdown. Again

Pentagon readies contingency plans for government shutdown
The department’s ‘highest priorities’ will revolve around operations securing the US Southern border, operations in the Middle East, designing Golden Dome, depot maintenance, shipbuilding and critical munitions, according to the guidance.
By Ashley Roque
WASHINGTON — With less than two days left before the US government potentially shuts down, the Department of Defense has issued contingency guidance to the force outlining six priorities and contracting plans.
“Activities that are determined not to be excepted, and which cannot be performed by utilizing military personnel in place of furloughed civilian personnel, will be suspended when appropriated funds are no longer available,” the document said. The secretary of defense “may, at any time, determine that additional activities shall be treated as excepted,” it added.
Fiscal 2025 is sunsetting when the clock strikes midnight Wednesday. Congress has not yet approved FY26 spending bills, and Democrats and Republicans have not reached an agreement on a continuing resolution to keep the government open. If a stopgap measure is not approved by both chambers and signed by President Donald Trump, the federal government will shut down.
For DoD, that means that military personnel on active duty — including reserve component personnel on federal active duty — will continue reporting for duty and may be asked to carry out non-excepted activities normally done by civilian personnel that have been furloughed.
Once more unto the breech, dear friends, once more. I’m a bit jaded, as being deemed an “essential” DOD employee allowed me the privilege to work for free. Of course this asks the question, why are there non-essential government employees?
Trump is asking the same question.

Furloughs for all my government friends!
(Thought the same thing…)
Furloughs, nuttin’. Yer Fired!

Well, someone has to come inside Government Buildings and empty trash cans, clean the bathrooms, mop the floors, vacumn, sweep and dust.
Outside Government buildings
..mow the grass, keep the flowers and shrubbery pretty, pick up the trash…
😉
Don’t essential govt employees do above listed jobs on a near daily basis at home for free? Shouldn’t be that hard to pick up after themselves. Besides, they would probably welcome a little away from their desks.
Huh. Back in my day, we had E-1 and E-2 that handled that mundane work. And those that were undergoing additional duties due to NJP. Would be terrible to have to go back to that. Just terrible.
Hondo commented? Huh? (smile)
I’ll take the compliment.
*grin*
This is why we love our TAH Brothers and Sisters…
Thank You, AW1Ed!
(Trying to image what KoB would write…We miss him so much…)
And for KoB: GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!

GO NAVY! BEAT OFF ARMY! 😉
😆 🤣 😂
Our apologies!
Credit to our very own beloved AW1Ed!

De nada. Just glad to know I wasn’t having a a raging attack of the CRS.
That’s all handled by contracts paid for by the federal Ability One program. You, the program that gives billions to companies to pay “disabled” workers slightly above federal minimum wage.
Did DJT really post this???
That piece of shit, lazy eyed, TEMU Obama Hack-eem Jefferies in a sombrero.

“Fiscal 2025 is sunsetting when the clock strikes midnight Wednesday”
Ha! The VA check happens by direct deposit when the clock
strikes midnight Wednesday also….maybe/maybe not.
Already have my retirement deposit. I could live without it if I had to but really prefer not to, it is a good chunk of change.
My military industrial complex retirement deposit should
be unaffected seeing as both sides of Congress are
heavily invested in it.
Then there is SS retirement on the 3rd……
Go ahead, shut it down. I dare them.
VA checks are mandatory spending and unaffected by shutdowns, I believe.
Not sure if “funded a year in advance” equates to “mandatory spending”, but it appears you are essentially correct. See the section titled “Veterans Affairs Operations” at the following link (it’s near the end):
https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2025/09/24/heres-how-looming-government-shutdown-could-affect-troops-families/
Contractors are already paido so they have to go in through the end of the contracts.
Ah, VA check arrived in the mail today. Never been early before, figured they were thinking ahead for once.
My retirement and disability already deposited.
Retirement check in.√
I saw the Democratic congress lady on the TV last night being interviewed. She told the interviewer that “the last thing we want is a government shutdown”.
I cheered.
Clearly that meant that there would be a deal to keep the government open.
Then she kept talking. As it turned out shutting down the government was far from the last thing they wanted. There was a whole list of other things that they wanted instead.
So I booed her for lying.
Her lips were moving. Of course she was lying.
Here is a reminder of ALL the Dem hopefuls running for 2020 Election agreeing to give ILLEGALS healthcare.

You can almost hear the knife hand.
The crying, whining, bitching will begin shortly followed by huffing and puffing. Lots of huffing and huffing.
IIRC if the government shuts down, Trump gets to fire some of the federal employees.
If a wretched hive of scum and villainy never closes how will I know’f I’d miss’m?
After I retired from the Air Force I worked another 19+ years as an A&AS ( Advisory and Assistance Support) contractor for DOD. During one of the more recent shutdowns I was supporting a very specialized organization and getting to use the talents/knowledge I’d gained in 24+ years on active duty.
Our contract was active/funded through mid January and they would send us contractor “augmentees” TDY to Prime contractor sites to “observe” as opposed to “witness” activities. Or they’d send one of the Lieutenants with a grizzled old fart to “advise”.
One drawback to the uncertainty on the workforce caused by these furloughs is brain drain. Especially. among those covered by CSRS as opposed to FERS. I saw a number of early retirements as a result.
This’ll hurt the dems. The Republicans are in the majority, but they fall short of the 60 vote threshold needed to keep the lights on. They need dem votes in order to do that. If that can’t happen, the dems will be rightly blamed for this.
The government shutting down will likely not affect me to much, so no skin off my back.
Well I’m essential, fortunately I’ve got money tucked away so I’ll get by til I get a paycheck.

Meanwhile, JSOC keeps on grinding away. Cause, as you know, people still need killin’.
I work for an Army base’s range control and this shutdown seems different. We are currently around 3 hours prior to shut down and we still don’t know what’s going on 100%. The last word I got is that we will finish our shifts tonight since we still have troops in the field that we are supporting. We are then supposed to come in in the morning and sign our furlough paperwork and after that all scheduled training ceases and the troops have to come in from the field.
