Good news and bad news

First, take a minute of silence – it’s September 11th and while many seem to have happened 24 years ago today, we at TAH have not and will not. Remember the immortal words of George Santayana – “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Moving on to more current things – the Navy has unveiled technology which, if true, should help give our enemies pause.
The U.S. Navy is preparing to launch one of the most advanced detection systems in its history — a new passive sonar technology. Unlike active sonar, which sends out signals that can be tracked, passive sonar works in total silence. It listens to natural sounds in the ocean, processing them with cutting-edge artificial intelligence.
Traditional sonar relies on sending out a signal and listening for echoes. The problem is that once you send a ping, the enemy knows you’re there. Passive sonar avoids that risk.
This new system doesn’t just listen. It uses AI-powered algorithms to analyze sounds in real-time and detect the faintest acoustic signatures. The result: far greater accuracy and range, without revealing the ship’s position. iStudiezPro
Supposedly the new system, soon to be mounted on Arleigh Burke-clas destroyers, has the ability to passively (meaning ‘silently’) detect submarines up to 150 km (90+ miles) away, without needing sonar pings giving away their own position.
The article is somewhat sensationalist, but if true, this could change submarine warfare radically.

On the bad news front – Florida has become the first state to eliminate vaccine mandates, and in true anti-vaxxer style, has successfully managed to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
The move would make Florida the first-ever state in the U.S. to withdraw from the requirements that are credited with increasing vaccination rates in communities and preventing outbreaks of infectious diseases. The rollback could result in fewer school children getting immunized against deadly viruses such as polio and measles, and comes as Florida leads the Southeast in nonmedical vaccine exemptions among kindergartners.
Any of you older guys remember to a time before polio vaccines? Have a scar on your arm from the smallpox vac? Ah, yes, those sugar cubes with polio vaccine were FAR better, weren’t they? (Disclaimer – I have had two friends with polio in my life, and I can assure you that if they had had a chance to avoid it, they emphatically would have.) But hey, there’s a completely discredited study that says vaccines cause autism… and Robert F. Kennedy, our Department of Health and Human Services head (whose kids HAVE been vaccinated) apparently believes it. He’s not alone – Florida will move to end all vaccine mandates, State Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced in a news conference on Wednesday.
During a news conference Wednesday morning with Gov. Ron DeSantis, Ladapo said it should not be up to the government to tell parents what choices to make for their children. Action News JAX
They talk about protecting children – one of the ways to protect kids is to be sure they don’t infect other kids. Don’t want your kids inoculated? Fine…hope you’re really good at home schooling. Don’t like the COVID vaccine? At leave the ones that work, like measles, polio, etc. which have almost wiped those diseases out in the US. You know who gets ’em nowadays? Kids who associate with unvaccinated kids.
At least Florida is following the science, right? That autism study is discredited, but there’s always the other science, the studies, the…
Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo said Sunday that his team didn’t study the impact eliminating vaccine mandates would have on the spread of preventable diseases before announcing the policy change.
“Absolutely not,” Ladapo told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday when pressed by host Jake Tapper about whether his team did a data assessment of how many new cases would emerge from the mandates going away. NY Post
Zero points for logical thinking, but hey, at least he isn’t lying about it. To quote the famous philosopher: “What a maroon. What a gullibull.”

RIP Gentlemen
I guess we dont really need to explain ” at this point what difference does it make”?…
I’ve been lucky enough to meet three survivors of that cluster.. all their stories match, and they’re all different from the official story.. imagine that… its not hard to decide who to believe..
MRS D and I were still dating when “13 Hours” came out. She got angrier and angrier as the movie went on. The movie ended, the lights came up, nobody is moving, it’s dead quiet. MRS D yells out “THEY FUCKING LEFT THEM?” Our country couldn’t even be bothered to send an aircraft to pick them up.
Sounds like you found a good woman!
I damn sure did. And she’s still pissed about Benghazi.
The problem is that modern vaccines are not the same as the ones older generations received.
The industry overreached, and this is the backlash.
After COVID, you’ve got to effing KILL me to put one more vaccine in me.
I have zero trust or confidence in the industry.
If you want or need a vaccine, get with your doctor, ensure first that he or she is not a Leftish shill, and find out if that vaccine is good for you and yours before you get it.
As for the The Free State of Florida, the crux is removing the mandate on all these new and/or future vaccine requirements. The Polio, Measles, and Smallpox vax are proven and I would highly recommend. However, what Wu-Flu taught us is skepticism on rushed-to-market and niche vaccines that rollout on a constant basis. You don’t need and won’t be required to get things Monkey Pox and this other crap they roll out of Big Pharma factories. I don’t even get a flu shot, and I get cold/flu about once every 5 years. I like having the OPTION of getting or not getting a shot. When they mandated the COVID for the masses but exempt Congress is all you needed to know.
Yeah, vaccinating children for sexually transmitted diseases is one of those eyebrow-raising moves…
^THIS^
It is about removing the “mandate” for vaccines. It is about rolling back the list of required vaccines for school attendance, even college. It is about allowing parents and individuals to choose for themselves whether or not to get the umpteenth round of Covid shots.
When vaccines are optional, people will only choose to get them if they can be certain of their safety, efficacy, and necessity. That means pharm companies will have to retool if they want to sell their product. When it’s mandated and the pharm companies cannot be sued, it is more cost effective to … downplay … risks and side effects.
Automobile manufacturers now make safety a key feature of sales. With removing the mandate pharmaceuticals will have to do the same. That is what this is about.
You said it all OAM, you got these peeps saying thats it’s the end of democracy by circle filing the mandates, but they won’t tell their followers that it is up to the parents or individuals to make that choice.I’m a member of the silent majority born a number of years before 1950 and remember the polio shots during the 50’s and olther shots that we had to get. They keep saying Democracy which we are not and Maybe or maybe not they know that we are a Constiional Republic….not a Democracy
Replace the word democracy and add the word power, and it all makes sense what’s truly important to them, regardless of which side of the isle they walk.
As far as the vaccine mandate goes, some here are old enough to remember when DDT was considered a safe and effective remedy for mosquito control because science said so.
Not to mention, spray weed killers.
I just attended a visitation for a high school friend, who died from the effects of Agent Orange exposure from 55 years ago!
My condolences UN! It’s very sad to see a life lost. Even more when it no fault of their own.
Remember when Trump started Operation Warp Speed, to get a vaccine and ole Brandon, San Fran Nan, Cackles and the rest of the clown car posse, stated to the nation that they refused to take any “Trump vaccine”? Then, once in office and THEY own it, it becomes mandated! Mandatory!
Oh, you had a choice to not take it. You just no longer had a job, couldn’t buy food, couldn’t travel, etc. etc.
I remember it all!
Irony scale of 12/10 when you forget to put in [forgotten what] in the article.
I will put away my editors kit I found in a Cracker Jack box for the rest of the day.
Drink more ovaltine.
IIRC Florida parents have the option to vaccinate, but not the mandate.
I was a child in Houston in the early 1950s – a time when Houston was an epicenter of the polio outbreak.
I remember the sugar cubes, I remember the clear plastic dome over my smallpox vax site to keep me from scratching it, and people living their lives in iron lungs.
But after the pharmaceutical industry, CDC, et al started pushing more and more vaccines, many experimental like the mRNA vaccines, and the health complications which have coincidentally arisen with them, I fully understand Florida’s position.
As a parent I would give my child the DPT shot. But not much else.
So if you were at risk for Ebola or Rabies you wouldn’t take it? Interesting.
Do the benefits outweigh the possible side effects? How high is the risk of contracting either one? It’s much like malaria vaccinations. Most people in the US are at nearly zero risk, so it’s not warranted for everyone. How about anthrax? Almost no risk outside of veterinarians or sheep ranchers, not everyone needs it. Applying vaccinations wisely is NOT anti-vax.
I agree, that is why I specified “at risk”. This is why Anthrax isn’t for everyone and was probably a waste of resources from go. Some people won’t take mRna vaccines no matter what.
I’m trying to remember thru a bourbon-induced fog, so help me out; is there any mRNA vaccines?
Well Ebola for one…. Rabies, a few others.
On my deployments, I always tried to be responsible and do the right thing. Especially as a leader. Squad Leader, Section SGT, PL, Company CO. I could only get through about a week of taking the anti malaria pills. 30-45 minutes after taking them, I was throwing them up anyway.
We had a Soldier that was adamant about taking them as directed. He was so scared of catching anything. A real germophobe. About 5-6 months into a 16 month deployment (DEC 03- APR 05), he turned yellow. Went the medics and was told to stay out of the sun. We were in Iraq!
BTW, these are just anecdotes. Not arguments for either side.
5JC, that is not what I said. I said:
Please re-read and process with comprehension the second sentence in my quote.
Were, by some mischance, my child (or I) at risk from Ebola most certainly I would choose to take/ have my child that vaccine.
And, de facto, I have had the Rabies vaccine after being exposed to a rabid animal back in 1958/9, in Venezuela, back when they re-used the needles and glass syringes. You can bet that were my child exposed to a rabid animal that we would employ a rabies vaccine.
Quit the emotive response gig.
I was seeking clarification. No need to read too much into it.
I don’t get anti-vaxxers. It is kind of like people who bought pills to protect them from radio waves and plates to cover up outlets to keep electricity from leaking out. The research science behind it is literally 229 years old.
I think it’s important to ID which antivaxxer is being discussed these days. There are the ones that are against ALL vaccines (I too don’t understand that one), But as of late, there are the ones that don’t want (nor need) the Coronavirus Vaccine.
I ensured my children were vaccinated against everything as they should have been. I advised my whole family against the coronavirus vaccine. I had to have it(both on my military side and civilian side). I am an anti vaxxer, but only for the BS coronavirus vaccine. So far!!! So my point is, I think we need to defined which ones are being discussed these days.
Speaking of forgetting 9/11, the Taliban are back hard at work training and supporting Al Queda.
https://www.foxnews.com/world/al-qaeda-remains-most-dangerous-terrorist-group-24-years-after-9-11-expert-warns
The war was just a minor incovenience.
To the western mind, “long term planning” means maybe 5-10 years. To Islam, it’s centuries.
There is a difference between being anti-vaxx and being anti-mandate.
Concur.
concur as well
👍
I am personally more than a little bit concerned about the dropping of the childhood vaccines. There is more than a little history of success behind them. We have already had a resurgence of one childhood disease in Texas and 2 kids are dead because their isolated family group refused to vaccinate the kids for measles. I fully blame the govt., WHO and the CDC for the current reluctance to trust in vaccines due to the covid debacle. They got overly heavy handed about it and now virtually no one trusts them anymore.
Thanks to biden et al, we have imported millions of third world people into the country who were exposed to all kinds of diseases that were eradicated in this country. That’s one hell of a start to a potential epidemic of those same diseases that killed so many kids before they grew to adults.
I fully expect to see polio, diptheria, pertusis (whooping cough) and other diseases make a massive return in the next decade should the vaccine stupidity continue to spread.
I am very distrustful of the covid BS and will no longer take any “boosters” for that. I don’t have a problem with the flu shots and at our age, the wife and I will hope the research docs guessed right in china as to what version is here this year.
MRS D is a pediatric RN and not a fan of RFK Jr. She does agree with him on a couple of points concerning childhood vaccinations though. She’s always objected to the way we vaccinate infants and toddlers, hitting then with 8 or so vaccines all at once. It’s hard on little bodies and systems. There’s zero reason they can’t be spread out.
There are literally millions of reasons to vaccinate early/often. Ask any one of the folks on the list.

And there you have it!! Fn politicians!!!!!
I have no problem with eliminating vaccine mandates. It’s not a ban on vaccinations.
A guy I worked with who had a varied military service history. He was Army Guard, Air National Guard, then Air Force Reserves, service dates of 62-04 (Came in 4 years before I was born). He had the Plague listed in his Immunization Records.
We use to give him hell about it. I mean how old does one have to be to have gotten immunized against the Plague.
Me, being an Air Force Brat, was constantly getting shots due to my dad’s overseas assignements. Then when I came in, they gave me all the same shots again, even though I was already current.

Anyone in my mid-eighties unit (24th ID) got a shot for Y Pestis / Plague. I remember it all too well.
It is endemic in the Mideast, and other places. And, the US southwest. A handful of cases here in the USA every year.
Fortunately, easily treated with any number of modern antibiotics.
Also fortunate that it doesn’t appear to mutate very much, other than to be less virulent. Everyone alive today is descended from folks who survived a much stronger version. (with miniscule exceptions, everyone)
That is the thing though. So long as Trump or someone like him is president the border will remain secure. Let another Autopen into office and that door swings open wide to every disease on the planet.
I went to Air Force Basic Training in Jan 86, my father in Jun 62 and my FIL in Jan 72….We never got it. Wonder if it was an Army thing.

Damn you old!!
How long has the 24th been disbanded???
JK!! I have 3 very close friends that were all in the 24th. 2 of them in DS/DS.

Nineteen (now 24) years ago, we should have given your daddy a condom, and your mother birth control (pre and post) pills. Then we would get over it.
If the people of Florida want to experiment I say let them.
If someone worships at The Church of Modern Medicine ™ then they can take their fucking communion at their pleasure.
Plus the free market will make these things cheaper as a result, presuming there is still demand.
So, you’re welcome x2.
I can’t imagine sticking up for any large companies, especially the welfare queens at pHARMa inc. but do you dog.
I am for vaccines but not enforcing it. There will be an uptick of diseases coming back in Florida, hope they understand that. All my kids got their vaccines and all are healthy adults now, so am I. If parents wish to follow some other non-science base routine, go for it.
Good Lord! They’re not deleting any vaccines! They are leaving the choice of receiving any, up to the parents.
Measles, chicken pox, rubella, polio all have proven and safe vaccines, and would be prudent to have your child safeguarded by them.
Does your USA child really need a Bird Flu vaccine? Monkey Pox? Anthrax? Beri Beri? Malaria? Encephalitis lethargica (sleeping sickness)? Or for that matter, the Wuhan Flu juice? Likely…no.
God only knows what the hell we were shot up with, prior to departure to Iraq in early 2004, and then getting the series of 6 shots for Anthrax…..when there was ZERO indication of the disease being out there! And we HAD to take it, otherwise “unfit for duty”, shipped home, and a permanent record. Which always looks real nice to the promotion board.
So yeah, only the “mandated” part is being removed, not the medical part.
