Immigration update

Saw thebesig’s article on ICEBlock – the Apple-only app that allows people to anonymously post suspected ICE sightings. Its stated purpose is to ‘help people avoid ICE interactions’ – essentially allowing interested parties who, shall we say, don’t really want to talk to an ICE agent for whatever reason (!) to be where the ICE agents aren’t.  The argument against the app is that:

“As you know, as you stated, there’s been a 500% increase in violence against ICE agents, law enforcement officers across the country who are just simply trying to do their jobs and remove public safety threats from our communities.”  TAH

And that may well be… although logically, if conducting ICE raids on the unprecedented scale we are told, even if the percentage of confrontations stays mostly static, you would expect to see numerically higher assaults. Plus notice how they conflate LEO assaults with assaults on ICE. Lord knows I support neither action, but I do like the facts to be unambiguous.

Now, ignoring the point that “can be used to enable” should be a legal non-starter – that is the same reason silencers and machine guns are NFA items and made expensive to procure. Just because something can be used to do something wrong does not mean you should ban the item over its potential. Remember the woman who wanted something (a gun maybe) banned because it had the capacity to hurt people, and the fella who responded by telling her that her assertion would be equivalent to him calling her a whore because she had the capability to be one? And we don’t sue Ford when a drunk kills someone with his F-150, nor Dunkin’ for making people fat.

But there is also the list of court decisions that protect that sort of thing as protest, protected speech. Multiple courts have agreed that flashing your headlights to warn of a speed trap is legal. Pretty sure our legal eagles and lawers here might even agree that the bulk of precedence favors that style of warning, whether you  (and ICE) like it or not,  and is not something they can legally block.

A while back we talked about some of those detainees. Not Kilmar Abrego Garcia (although I still want to see an unretouched photo of his hands  to compare with the one Mr. Trump was waving around.)  Or Sayed Nasr Noori, arrested by ICE at his own immigration hearing (ICE said there was no evidence he ever worked for the US forces in Afghanistan, despite his lawyers providing that proof to ICE, their judge, and the press. He is on a fast track to deportation about now regardless of whether he helped us or not   Military.com.) Nope, this is based on information from ICE itself:

According to new data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE has detained over 56,397 immigrants nationwide as of June 15th, and 46% have no criminal history.

In Los Angeles, the percentage of immigrants who have been arrested and have no criminal history is higher. According to the Deportation Data Project, ICE arrested 722 people in LA in the first 10 days of June. Only 30% were convicted criminals, while 57% had no criminal history when arrested. LAMag.com

Yes, if they are illegal they have committed a civil infraction, I get that. But ICE is supposed to be concentrating on the worst of the worst, the bad-boy criminals, Tren de Aqua (intentional), the MS-13s  – not the folks with no criminal offenses. Get to them AFTER you get rid of the bad boys.  Bet if ICE actually concentrated on the gang-bangers and narcotraficantes their public approval would skyrocket, too.

My, My, My

Got it. So to win hearts minds, we (the US) should only look at/for the bad illegals and ignore the good illegals. 🙂

Never thought of it like that.

5JC

Noori’s story appears to be true, and if so he was never an illegal. Why he was arrested hasn’t been explained but it certainly wouldn’t be the first time a federal agent screwed up and was covering their ass.

He can’t go back. His brother was already murdered by the Taliban and they will likely kill him as soon as he shows up. This is the part of the problem with the bullshit political refugee claims. They clog up the system so when a legit one shows up they have trouble fixing it. If ICE agents had any common sense at all they would expedite the one in ten thousand cases where an injustice is occuring.

Odie

Maybe so, but don’t all of them claim they have a legit claim whether they do or not? How are ICE agents supposed to know which is a legit claim v those that aren’t. They aren’t all knowing, and to suggest they are just doing CYA crap is disingenuous at best.

Under Biden, the illegals were being funneled through ICE, but they had been reduced to babysitters, concierge and paper pushing positions. And the people complaining about it were basically told to STFU.

If you have a better way of separating legit claims from claims designed to clog the system, so that no legit claims get denied, there are a lot of people that would like to hear what that might be. But just about everybody here has worked for the government, whether military service, a civilian or a combination of the 2 to know shit falls through the cracks sometimes.

5JC

Not all of them submit evidence to the court and remain in jail.

Odie

We all know the wheels of govt turn exceedingly slow, so who knows what crack it fell into or unread email, inbox basket on a desk somewhere that hasn’t been gotten to yet.

Not saying it’s right, but a crisis on your part doesn’t make it an emergency on my part.

Sounds like if it was submitted to the courts, the problem lies with the court and not ICE.

Graybeard

I read elsewhere how conservatives and patriots are downloading the ICEBlock app, and “reporting” ICE agents in areas of known concentrations of illegals, causing them to flee the area(s).
Or have protestors show up to a non-event.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Amateur Historian

I thought about doing this, but: 1. I have an Android, not an Apple. 2. Apparently, you can only see reported ICE activity if you are with 5 miles of the site of the reported activity. This makes the app only situationally useful for Patriots wanting to draw off some of the numbers of blue-haired pantifa weirdos who go to confront armed ICE LEOs. 3. In the event that this app gets declared as a tool of insurrection, might be better not to be misidentified as a traitor.

Especially #3.

5JC

If you are sending up false reports than #2 doesn’t matter that much unless you live in the boondocks.

Amateur Historian

Now that I think on it, fair point. I didn’t have my caffeine infusion yet at the time I wrote that.

SFC D

Would it be too insurrectiony if I used the app on Pelosi’s house, Newsome’s house, Biden’s house…

RGR 4-78

Now that is some first-class humor.

Amateur Historian

Hmmm, since insurrection is a form of treason, I’ll answer this question in the form of another question: Can you be treasonous to traitors?

Things that make you say hmmmm 🤔

Ok, go:

If you’re treasonous towards a traitor, wouldn’t the acts cancel each other out, returning the scale to zero? Now my head hurts. Jameson’s, take me awayyyy!

Amateur Historian

No, they do not cancel out. My strange mind was speaking in terms of impossibilities. Thus, I was telling you to have at it. Now my brain hurts lol.

So, if you know your neighbor has warrants out for his / her arrest it’s fine for you to keep watch out for the Police and let them know if they are in the area. Especially if it means folks in addition to the person with the warrant can “object” with violence? How is that “free speech” again?

Fyrfighter

OT, I’ll agree with David here, banning things because they “have the capacity” is bullshit, but in your example, a person is taking affirmative action to protect a criminal, which is aiding and abetting… I would suggest that the existence of the app, or even having it is one thing. USING it to protect criminals is where the line should be drawn, as it is no longer the “capacity” thing, but actual criminal action at that point..

SFC D

That’s acceptable, but if they have COVID and won’t wear a mask…

OAM

I really, really like the response to the woman who argued guns have the capacity. Moving forward, that will be my go-to response. Modified, it applies to men, too, as in “you are a rapist because you have the capacity”. Then again, the blue-haired, Birkenstock wearing, tackle box faced harpies already believe that.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

And the blue haired harpies should be arrested for prostitution, because they have the “capacity” (even though anyone, male or female, with more then one brain cell to rub together wouldn’t come within 25 feet of them for any kind of carnal interaction)

Grunt

“Bet if ICE actually concentrated on the gang-bangers and narcotraficantes their public approval would skyrocket, too”

Their public approval seems just fine to me.

Slow Joe

Good point. Everyone I know supports ICE. Where is this mythical public outrage?
Oh, in the legacy media, and BlueSky.
Ok. Selective outrage.

OAM

Honestly, I can have sympathy for those “caught up”. To a point. However, the idea someone is “otherwise law-abiding” doesn’t hold up.

Let’s look at the guy who has been here for 40 years, has a wife, and US-born kids. The argument is he has “never broken another law” beyond the entering and remaining illegally ones. Except, if he is working and paying taxes, he is doing so using a stolen Social Security number. So, he, his wife and his kids use our medical and school systems in violation of a bunch of laws.

As an illegal, something his employer no doubt knows, his wages are probably below the standard for whatever job he is doing, so there’s also SNAP benefits supporting him, his wife and kids. Again, in violation of a bundh of laws.

If he’s filing taxes, that is also being done illegally. And thanks to the US-born kids, how much is he getting in child tax credits? All in violation of Federal laws.

So, no, those who have been here for 40 years “living law-abiding lives” have not been.

5JC

40 years of dealing with a corrupt system makes one corrupt.

Typically illegals use someone else’s social security number and don’t file any taxes. They claim 15 dependents and their taxes are hence very low. When the taxes (including social security and other welfare taxes) hit the account the government knows exactly what happened and simply keeps the money and reduces it off of the social security account.

So let’s say somebody is using your number. You make a $100k and they make $50k. Social Security will keep the taxes on the $50k and not give you credit for it in your “retirement ledger”. They also won’t tell you that your social security number has been compromised either.

Fyrfighter

Another aspect is that these “caught up” are obviously in the same vicinity as the criminals being targeted. No that may just be due to living arrangements / communities, but in many of the reports I’ve seen, it’s underground clubs, animal fights (a separate crime right there), businesses employing illegals, etc. So not nearly as “innocent” as the lying media wants to portray

SFC D

Holman has said that if they serve a warrant on criminal illegal alien “A”, and illegal aliens “B, C, D, E, and F” are present, they’re coming too.

rgr769

Which makes sense. I don’t think LEO’s are supposed to ignore other offenders who are present just because they are not the ones they are looking for. Plus, until they identify them and run them on the systems, they don’t know whether they are also subject to deportation orders or arrest warrants from other authorities.

rgr769

Also, let us not forget that many illegals are paid in cash, under the table. The people employing them in this fashion do not pay workers’ compensation insurance or Social Security tax on them. And the illegal does not have to pay income tax on those cash payments. Moreover, frequently part of that cash payment is sent back to relatives in their home country as a remittance, which is also tax free.

A Proud Infidel®™

I don’t know HOW many times I’ve seen banners in advertising “SEND MONEY to Mexico for only …” Maybe we need to put a Federal Tax on money sent to Central and South America, just think of the revenue for Border Enforcement that could reap!

rgr769

Trump has considered doing so, to induce Mexico to cooperate more on border security on their side of the border. I suspect he has threatened such a tax to other countries south of the border who refuse to take back their deported citizens.

Odie

Wasn’t it a renumuration tax, or something like that? Mexicos president went apoplectic at the idea. I saw a chart where Mexicans sending money home brought in more than their petroleum business. It was like their second or third largest legal cash business.

Anonymous

10% of Mexican GDP…

5JC

While true, they also aren’t eligible for social security or workman’s comp, so it is kind of a push. But no taxes means they aren’t paying for all the other social programs that the government doles out as well as police, fire, rescue and other services.

rgr769

Actually, in most states, illegals injured on their jobs are entitled to receive worker’s compensation benefits. There is an uninsured employer fund that pays their benefits. Then the state sues the employer to recover for those benefits plus penalties. It illegal for an employer to fail to pay workers’ compensation insurance on each employee. It is a form of statutory fraud in almost every state.

SFC D

I care not one whit whether an illegal alien has a criminal record or not. You’re going home. ICE’s public approval is just fine, with the exception of one very vocal group: Those that support illegal aliens. And their voices just don’t matter.

KoB

56K is a drop in the bucket. Guesstimate of 20-30 MILLION illegals currently. Yes we should concentrate on the for sure criminal elements, but also keep in mind that by sneaking in that makes them all criminal elements. In re the Affys that sniffy creepy joey let in, I do believe I made mention on those threads that this was gonna be a problem, eventually if not sooner.

Can you see smell the rank hypocrisy here?:

Federal agents accused of urinating on school grounds outside Los Angeles

According to a DHS spokesperson, the incident is now under investigation.

The article (link) would be cringe if it wasn’t so Fing hilarious.

Glad I’ve done my on-mission urinations in freaking war zones that didn’t have extradition treaties (at the time).

But at the same time LA Authorities don’t seem to give a damn about the homeless doing business on the sidewalks.

rgr769

In the downtown areas of most of our major cities, one cannot walk down a sidewalk without smelling urine from all the homeless pissing in doorways and on the sidewalk.

Graybeard

30-ish years ago part of my job in private security in downtown Houston was keeping the vagrants from pissing on our properties.

On one hand – there are no public bathrooms available to them.
On the other hand – their lifestyle is a choice.
Furthermore, Allen’s Landing and the bridges by the bayou are not that far away, they could go piss there.

Skivvy Stacker

Just a heads up for you;
The ICEBlock app is now being used by leftists to target the FAMILIES of ICE agents [spouses, children, parents, etc.].

I figure that a Minnesota style assassination [my home state] is just around the corner.

Anyone want to continue defending this app NOW?

Roh-Dog

Anyone want to continue defending this app NOW?

Yes.

An aside, there are two types of ambush: hasty and deliberate.

Hasty is an execution of Disciplined Initiative within the parameters of the Commander’s Intent. The hasty should be conducted according to SOP and rehearsed so Soldiers may implement with little input from leadership beyond hand signals.

11B-Mailclerk

(Grin)

Slow Joe

Don’t forget to establish your ORP out of sight and sound from the kill zone. During your leaders’ recon, mark your RP release point within sound but out of sight of the kill zone, and then emplace your S/O surveillance and observation, with eyes on the kill zone, to give you the freedom of maneuver to emplace your left and right security elements before you reconnoiter where you will emplace your SBF support by fire and then your assault 1 and assault 2 positions. Give a 5 point contingency plan to every element.

rgr769

David, here is what you are overlooking. ICE is forced to look for illegals in the wild because of all the states and cities that refuse to honor detainers by ICE. Therefore, ICE has to look for them in businesses and neighborhoods. When ICE encounters other illegals in the process, they detain them, as well. Homan has explained he can’t just have his officers ignore the other illegals who are subject to deportation. Do you want the homicide detective to ignore a drunk driver he encounters when he is investigating a homicide because the drunk driver hasn’t killed anyone, yet?

Slow Joe

Brilliant analogy.
I agree.

Slow Joe

The way I see it, we have legal immigration and illegal immigration.
Illegal immigrants have to be deported regardless of their behavior. They are here illegally.

There is a volume of immigration, a critical mass, that pass that number the amount of foreign born people in America is so large that they self gettoize, don’t learn English, and retain the cultural strappings of their failed original country.

Below that critical mass number, you have to integrate and learn English just to survive. Above that number, you have the luxury of not having to work hard to learn a foreign language and a foreign culture.

This is what’s happening in Miami, where I am surprised to find young people that don’t speak English. I had never seen that before. The young learns the faster. But now there is a so many of them, and they use social media and all other forms of media in their native language, and don’t bother to learn English because they don’t have to.

My recommendation is to take a hard look to our immigration policies and if we want to remain America as founded, we need to stop immigration completely for at least a decade. Make that for a generation.

Ditto. Over 25 years ago, I was in the Monterey, CA area for a deposition. I had some time to kill after the depo was over and before my flight home, so I walked to the public park down the street from my motel. I was surprised to see it was full of families in the middle of a weekday at 2:00 pm in the afternoon. No one in the park spoke anything other than Spanish.

A Proud Infidel®™

I busted a nut laughing this afternoon while listening to talk radio, they were playing clips of moonbat liberals screeching that squads of masked ICE Personnel were scooping up AMerican Citizens and making them disappear, you can’t make shit like that up!

rgr769

If a Prog is screeching, he, she, or it is invariably lying about something our side has done or might do.

Fyrfighter

Or their side for that matter.. like denying that they’re racist, that they want all of us deplorable ( and jews) dead, denying that they’re groomers… the list goes on..

Indeed.

If that was actually happening, or if those cretins actually so believed, the cowardly shits would not be calling attention to themselves.

rgr769

Yes, a real totalitarian dictatorship would be rounding them up. They would all be hiding out somewhere, shaking in their Birkenstocks.
