Person dead after shooting involving Phoenix police officers near 19th and Southern avenues
Two handguns were recovered from the scene, police say
PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a man is dead after a shooting involving officers Monday night.
According to a police department spokesperson, officers were first called to check out reports of a home invasion in a neighborhood near 19th and Southern avenues around 10 p.m. The caller reported that a person, who was armed with handguns, was trying to break into the home.
Responding officers located a pickup truck that matched the suspect vehicle description and attempted to pull it over, however, the driver did not stop.
During a short police pursuit of the vehicle, the driver crashed into a retaining wall in the area and the driver exited the car with two guns.
While attempting to run from officers, police say the man brandished one of the firearms, leading to the officer-involved shooting.
The man, identified as 41-year-old Carlos Fregoso, was struck by the gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.
He chose poorly. Thanks, Gun Bunny.
After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn’t do it.
