Kansas City police shoot, kill driver of stolen SUV

Kansas City police shot and killed a man who sped toward an officer in a stolen sport utility vehicle and struck a police van, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 9:45 p.m. Sunday after officers spotted the unoccupied SUV in a gas station parking lot, said Sgt. Bill Lowe, a spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which is investigating.

Lowe said police approached the man after he exited the store. He accelerated backward and then drove forward toward one of the officers, Lowe said.

Lowe said the officer dived out of the way and that the SUV struck the police van before officers opened fire.

The chase started as an attempted traffic stop just after 1 a.m. in Hitchcock, according to Hitchcock PD Chief Wilmon Smith.

According to Smith, the suspect then fled northbound on FM 2004 before getting on the Gulf Freeway and into the Houston area.

Smith said several units chased the suspect for about 40 miles before one of them finally got in front of the suspect’s vehicle and stopped him near N. Shepherd Dr. and the Katy Freeway.

As officers approached, the suspect took off again and hit one of the officers with his car.

Smith said the officer who was hit then shot at the suspect, striking him once. The suspect then stopped the vehicle. Both the suspect and the injured officer were taken to local hospitals.

KHOU Again

KHOU, the other gift that keeps on giving. Thanks, Gun Bunny. Do we add POVs as items to avoid bringing to gunfights?

And here I was thinking that POVs were already on the list. Who knew? But then again, most of the educational reading materials are kept in the same room as the 2nd place trophies are and I don’t need to go in there.

Don’t run from the popo. You’ll just end up in jail or hell, tired and sweaty.

Vlad is surely grinning over what is happening in America now.

Yesterday’s up close and personal followed up with today’s reach out and touch. How much more proof does one need to know that our Beloved AW1Ed loves us and wants us to be happy.

Another escort duty possible today. And a provision run. I feel the need…for more freedom seed.

Still say you could change the name of the column to Houston FGS and the content wouldn’t drop. SO GLAD I moved from there!
