Salt Lake City police shoot man who reportedly set yard on fire, aimed gun at officers

Scott D. Pierce
Salt Lake City police shot a man who allegedly set his yard on fire, threatened responding firefighters and pointed a gun at officers Saturday night. The man was not seriously injured.

According to Salt Lake City police, firefighters first responded to the yard fire at a home near 1400 S. Utahna Drive shortly after 8 p.m., and a man threatened to shoot them.

When police later arrived, they “kept a safe distance and began multiple attempts to communicate” with the man as smoke billowed from the yard, according to a news release.

Police said the suspect went inside the home, came out with a gun and pointed it at officers.

Shawnee Park shooting: Police say suspect was wanted on 12 charges

Louisville Metro police gave more details about the man who was shot by police in Shawnee Park and says there is body camera video of the incident.

Chief Erika Shields spoke briefly Monday a day after an officer and a suspect were shot at the Dust Bowl basketball tournament.

LMPD confirmed that the suspect shot is Herbert Lee, 30, and said he was wanted on 12 warrants.

Police said Lee is well known to officers in the area. They said when he was approached by officers because of the warrants, he fled. Shields said a standoff then ensued, Lee fired once and hit an officer in the chest.

Excellent choice in the 590 for home defense.
The 590A1 SPX with a bayonet will keep people away from you.

I bought one for a tactical shotgun course. Our military buys this pump shotgun. It is built like a tank. I put a pistol grip and side folding stock on mine.

Generally speaking, if you follow the instructions of an LEO, you won’t get your stoopid azz shot.

I always thought that my politeness came from my proper home training. Who knew that it came from the fact that I went around armed?

Before that tragic boat accident there was a Mossy 88 near to hand. It was a real Maverick that kept me safe when in a danger zone. I never had to put a bad guy on ice, man or cook his goose, and I never lost that lovin’ feelin for it. If only it would’ve been able to swim…or float.

Maybe we can get some Mossy 590S’s to replace our 88s at the bottom of the Marianas Trench?
