Nashville police are investigating a claim of self-defense in Friday’s fatal shooting in a gas station parking lot.

Police say that Azon Smith, 24, is claiming he fatally shot Justin Sturgis, 34, out of self-defense. The deadly shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the parking lot of an Exxon gas station in the 800 block of South Gallatin Pike.

The investigation shows that Sturgis and Smith were arguing inside the store, because Sturgis didn’t like the way Smith looked at him. Police say Sturgis made verbal threats toward Smith and his girlfriend, who works at the gas station, before displaying a gun.

Sturgis drove away and Smith told police he attempted to follow him, which was unsuccessful. Police say Sturgis later returned and made threatening statements from his car.

Smith told police that as Sturgis pulled back into the parking lot, he lifted up his shirt, which Smith perceived as him reaching for a gun.

Police say Smith fired a gun at Sturgis, striking him multiple times. He was taken to Skyline Medical Center where he died.

DA: South Philly gun shop owner ‘justified’ in shooting of 2 burglars, killing 1

PHILADELPHIA – District Attorney Larry Krasner on Friday announced charges against one of several men accused of attempted robbery at a South Philadelphia gun shop earlier this week, only to be met by a gun-wielding owner who fatally shot one and wounded another.

Krasner also said the owner’s actions were “justified.”

“The facts we know and the law are clear that the business owner’s use of force while inside his own property against a burglar accompanied by others who was entering with a gun in his hand was justified,” the D.A. stated in a news release. “It is fortunate for the City of Philadelphia that this large cache of guns and ammunitions were not taken and sold on the street.”

Khaleef Brown, 17, has been charged with robbery, burglary, conspiracy and related charges stemming from his alleged involvement in a group armed robbery of the Firing Line gun store located on the 1500 block of South Front Street.

Investigators say Brown and three other men arrived at the Firing Line around 4 a.m. Tuesday in multiple cars. The owner of the shop, whose name has not been released, was inside the building safeguarding inventory after reports of the recent spate of looting in Philadelphia.

Other articles state the store owner used an AR-15 to defend his life and livelihood. Good choice, and I hope this puts the particular story to bed.
As for the gun pr0n, didn’t someone mention feral hogs?

“Gun control? It’s the best thing you can do for crooks and gangsters. I want you to have nothing. If I’m a bad guy, I’m always gonna have a gun. Safety locks? You will pull the trigger with a lock on, and I’ll pull the trigger. We’ll see who wins.” — Sammy “The Bull” Gravano, whose testimony convicted John Gotti.

I believe that is a “New” model Super Blackhawk.
Bought one in 1974 and actually wore it out.
Sent it back to the factory about five years ago
to have it re finished and they advised me to
“retire” it with the offer of a new Hunter model
in stainless for half price.

Tip: The 240 grain ammo is mild compared to the kick
of the 180 grain.

Well, I may be wrong again.
The trigger housing isn’t squared.

David

Extremely recent. Drift adjustable front sight, rounded trigger guard… all Ruger single actions used to have a fixed front sight, and the Super had a squared off trigger guard. Looks to be a lowered hammer spur, too. Is that standard now?

26Limabeans

I thought maybe a Bisley with the round
guard and that hammer but I don’t think it
was offered in that long barrel.

Beats me.

This is a Bisley grip (which includes the trigger guard) and a Bisley hammer.

That is the unfluted cylinder usually seen on Super Blackhawks.

Barrel appears to be ported for recoil reduction

Neat combo.

That’s a wheely nice looking wheel gun. Sorry, but I couldn’t resist for the start of the week.

Good one.

‘Pears as if Darwin is hard at work today. Careful who you pull your shirtail up for. And who you “diss”, homie.

Philly? “…spate of looting…” (?) Surprised the owner is not facing charges for interrupting these young lads’ business plan. Now how are they gonna get new choir robes?

Feral hogs? Yeah I reckon you can use the .44 Black Hawk hand portable Artillery for those. It ain’t much use for a jukebox tho. You need a .45 for that. Just ask Bubba, he shot one last night. Said it played a sad song and made him cry.

MI Ranger

Great song 5th/77th!
If I ever ran for Sheriff I told myself I would get a nice Ruger Super Blackhawk to carry in a cowboy rig! Of course I would need to practice my draw so I could be like Gene Wilder in Blazing Saddles…so fast you can’t even see it.

Try the Vaquero in .45 Colt, 4-5/8″ barrel.

I’m guessing that Justin isn’t going to make the Harley run to Sturgis this year.
