Weekend Open Thread
Mr. Bernath is pretty excited that it’s Friday and he’s been checking all morning for the open thread, so I figured that I should post one for him. He’s pretty upset that Yahoo didn’t pull the plug on TAH because he claimed that he represented clients who claimed copyrights to some of our photos. Photos like Mr Wittgenfeld’s mugshot. Yahoo’s lawyers said “Um, no”.
Mr. Bernath hasn’t been disbarred, so I would hope that you would refrain from making that claim in the comments.
I included the above photo because I figured that we needed to remember Randolph Holder, the NYPD officer who was killed the other day. His murderer, Tyrone Howard the bicycle thief, is in custody.

Here we go: chili is stewing in the pot. I added celery and one small zuke to the mix, to use that up, and the juice of two limes – big, fat ones – among other things.
I think for Christmas, I’ll splurge on a Lodge Logic cast iron Dutch oven for chili.
Cornbread for supper with the chili, El Milagro tortilla chips with garlic/tomato salsa, a good Tuscan red, and for afters, turtle cheesecake.
A Tuscan red? Seems to me a good ale or lighter body beer, why the red wine other than you like them?
Why the Tuscan red? Partly because the bottle is half-gone and needs to be finished. Partly because the Toscana wine seems far less abrasive than standard Italian wines. And partly because the idea of chili and red wine in the same meal seems like a good idea.
After all, I did dice up a zuke and the cheese I used as a topping was a blend of Asiago, mozzarella, parmesano, and romano, so it just seems logical to use a Tuscan instead of a Frenchy.
I do the same thing with chili and soups.
Use them to clean the fridge!
Sometimes you come up with really interesting flavors and ideas you would not have thought of otherwise.
Do you remember the Bob Hope shows?
(Who could ever forget?)
Anyway, that’s what I’m listening to right now, as I’m typing this, at an Old Time Radio web site, while playing Spider Solitaire on my computer.
It’s the 1944 show at Stockton Air Base in California.
I’m enjoying a few good laughs listening to it, while remembering the shows I saw in Viet Nam.
Frequent guest host actress Maureen O’Hara died yesterday at 95.
@ DEVTUN, Et Alii:
Yes, I read that.
What a blow!
I loved watching her.
It’s always sad watching all these famous movie and television stars die, when we’ve grown up watching them.
With Lauren Bacall’s passing last year and now Maureen O’Hara’s, I lost the only two women I ever loved but never met.
Jane Fonda isn’t on your list? (SMILE!!!)
Back in July, I stopped shaving, so my whiskers could grow out in time for Christmas, as the children expect this, and I mustn’t disappoint them.
Here at the old folks home where I live, they don’t know my true identity.
They think I’m John Robert Mallernee, but in reality, I’m Kris Kringle.
You can just call me, “Kris”.
The United States Post Office will deliver letters to me.
POST SCRIPT:
Just in case there’s anyone who didn’t get the joke, I was referring to the 1947 movie, “MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET”, starring Maureen O’Hara.
I know I’ve been slacking off, but in creative work, there is no holiday. Not even latrine breaks. But I promise you that you will be nondisappointed when I had completed my task at hand.
So if/when this firearm is used against an innocent person, will legislators call for more restrictions like they did in San Francisco a few months back?

A rough weekend for law enforcement in Maryland. It’s a good think that they are trained professionals, otherwise, they wouldn’t be so professional when it comes to firearms handling.

Wonder if he was dropping his kids off at school while on the way to work (and thus technically off-duty) and therefore left his weapons locked in the car while he walked them to the door?
No version of the AP-generated story identifies the federal agent or the federal agency that employs him. They were taken from his car–a gov’t car–and it was pure happenstance that they were found. Local police interrupted a drug transaction and one of the brainiacs had one of the guns with him. Curiously, both the suspects have been ID’ed and their pics posted, but there’s nothing on the federal agent.
A small tribute to a mentor and good guy who passed this weekend.
Now that your time with us is done, John, enjoy your time in heaven, your ultimate reward for having lived a good life. Say hello to everyone who got there before us.
John survived 32 missions over the ETO in a B-24. Hell of a role model.
I see that another James Gay Bond will be released next month. I can’t stand the current Bond. He does his best acting when he’s kissing a female. Funny thin about gays. They pack clout that well exceeds their aggregate spending power or, in politics, votes. So, I took a look at the highest grossing Bond movies–adjusted for inflation. As you might guess, the top two and three of the top five are Connery’s. One of them (Live and Let Die) is Roger Moore’s and bringing up the rear is Craig–and that was his first movie, before we learned what a fine actor he truly is.
I think he was in ‘Road to Perdition’ before he went to Bond.
Comment Test.
Possible hinky stuff going on. Gremlins in the network?
Someone sticking used catheters in the interwebs usb ports??
Possible. Wife has been monkeying around trying out different search engines and updating spam security, losing e-mail access icons, etc.
I guess it’ll OK if this posts up correctly.
No need to get excited.
Just shortening my moniker a little.
Still working on getting my shortened moniker put into two different systems, both Google and Internet Explorer.
So this comment will probably end up being in moderation for awhile.
Wish me luck. I hope the wife is done playing code monkey for now.
