Somewhere along the way, he got himself some certificates for a Bronze Star Medal for Valor and a Purple Heart that he also posted. When people started questioning him, he simply took down his profile and dashed. At Scotty’s he has two DD215s which correct his social security number and some unit commendations. Neither of the DD215s mention two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star or a Combat Action Ribbon.

I looked at the alleged “citations” for your BSM and PH. They’e obviously not legit. And the NBCMR – who knows what “right looks like” – agreed.
For the last decade or so, certificates like that (or similar items) have been available from any number of online vendors – no questions asked, no proof required. That’s why the various BCMRs now require orders as well as certificates as documentation for missing awards. Orders can be cross-checked against unit/service records for validity.
When was your first bite at the apple on this – about 8 years ago? Or not too long after it became easy to get such “commemorative” documents?

That’s Staff Sergeant according to my Discharge and Staff Sergeant promotion warrant. The purple heart was for falling in a punji trap in June (june 18 65 to be exact) while on a search and destroy mission. Stick hit my right knee bone and deflected off ripping the skin. 8 stitches. Did not to to aid station. Stitched in the field by Corpsman. Believe it or not. Makes no difference to me. Right, not on my medical record, but hen again my entire medical record is blank for the entire time I was in Nam even though I was treated for a rusty nail puncture into my right instep aftter stepping on a broken pallet and received a tetanus shot. That was the second of two trips to the aid station. First one was for a rash around my waistline from the heat and sweat while unloading the ship. My entire record is void of anything during my 12 months in Nam. Only entry is in operations section “Operations Chu Lai Vietnam – April 27, 1965 (wrong date). I did a hell of a lot more than just arrive and leave but I guess our CO didn’t see the need to record anything. Again, I don’t give a shit if you believe it or not.

I didn’t have to be rotated out. Some real MEN can take the pain. A chopper co-pilot I flew with was shot in the foot through the bottom of the Chopper. He was back in the Chopper flying mission that very night. A real man. Unfortunately he was hit again on this time it shattered the bone in his leg so he was shipped out to a medical facility in the U.S. against his wishes. He wanted to be close to Nam so he could go back. He was a Lieutenant then, in line for promotion to Captain. He laid in the hospital for six months and his promotion period went by. Finally found out that the Marine Corps had NO IDEA where he was. They lost track of him. He had a friend that was a Colonel,got it all straightened out, made Captain and then resigned his commission. He didn’t want to serve any longer in an outfit that kept such lousy records that they didn’t even know where he was for six months. THAT’s your Marine Corps/Naval Records for you. Real dependable. You guys must live in a little world of your own. I’ve talked with hundreds of veterans all of whom have a nightmare story to tell about their records. I’ve also talked with former CO’s that admitted that they just threw paperwork in the trash and burned it because they didn’t want to be bothered. Clerks that were drafted that couldn’t even spell and I bet they were great at record keeping. You guys have all heard these stories I am sure or else you are deaf or live in a really small world. Frank, no one here would want you to stop the authentication and validation of your legitimate military record. If something is missing from that record and it needs to be corrected, absolutely it should be fixed, if that’s possible.
What you must remember is that life will not always reward you, sometimes not even for the most noble acts. Sometimes, the only reward you get is to carry the knowledge in your heart that you did what was right. It is better to carry that silently, than to make a claim that will place you, and your reputation, in a false position. Don’t let your disillusionment with the different systems you’ve had to grapple with ruin your honor.
One last thing: Come clean here, and you’ll find more of a support base than you suspect. TAH exposes liars and posers, but will back you a hundred percent if you’re honest with them.

One, simply submitted his documents to NPRC and they were corrected. Two finally took their legitimate documents to the local Congressman’s office and discussed it with his “aide”, not even him personally. In short order, when the power, influence and connections of his office came to bear, they had their records corrected on a DD-215. Why have you not done this also? I imagine your answer will be you have already tried that route.

Received letter from CMC in April 66 during my two years inactive reserves, advising me of promotion to E-6. That’s it. Question Frank. In all these eight years of fighting to prove you are right, why have you not contacted your local Congressman or Senator? I have known three others who had problems with records. One, simply submitted his documents to NPRC and they were corrected. Two finally took their legitimate documents to the local Congressman’s office and discussed it with his “aide”, not even him personally. In short order, when the power, influence and connections of his office came to bear, they had their records corrected on a DD-215. Why have you not done this also? I imagine your answer will be you have already tried that route.

The ones you are touting are ones you created yourself. That is why the government called bogus in your lawsuit. I read you BSM and PH “citations’. They leave a lot to be desired. The wording, phrases used and types of details in them are not like any BSM Citation I have seen and I have seen many. I have NEVER seen a PH citation like yours though nor a BSM citation like yours either. The ones I have read can be easily described as the wording of another person doing the writing. Yours however, are the first person wording of someone writing their own. When you create documents Frank, you have to remember that whole, first person, second person, third person voice business.

I happen to have a BA and MPA from the University of Michigan. Who in the hell wants to go to Harvard or any brick and mortar school for that matter at the age of 62 and pay out the ass. And Mid Atlantic School of Law is out of Texas and it is a distance learning school and like many programs that is the trend today. Working people and people that don’t have the money or the means to attend brick and mortar schools and waste their time with the kiddies take distance learning classes. My law school studies took four years to complete and I’ll match my education with anyone from any school. Frank, on the same subject now. If, I had been awarded a BSM w/V and had earned a PH, which I did not, I would have taken a different route long before eight years. If I were holding legitimate documents for those medals and it meant that much to me, not after eight years but only one or two at the most of frustration, I would have done the following. A cover letter of explanation and a copy of those legitimate documents would have been on the desks of my Congressman, both my Senators, the Secretary of the Army and the President of the United States through Certified, Return Receipt Requested Mail. I would have shaken every tree up the line were I right. Why have you not done this?
I have written to everyone of them except Obama. I wouldn’t write anything to him. What you think may be of assistance isn’t always true. My experience with all of them, Senator, Representative, Sec of the Navy, Sec of Defense, Commandant of the Marine Corps and the several others I’ve written to, is that they are not concerned. We are all little people out there. I will say though, the Senator from Alabama is a good guy. I wrote to him and recommended Jack Riley you’ve probably seen him on TWS) from 3/9 for the Medal of Honor because of his gallantry at Getlin’s Corner. They followed through and it all came down to Jack signing a release form for them to conduct an investigation. He wouldn’t sign it. He wrote back to me and thanked me but said he was not interested. That’s the only Senator that ever responded to me.

Regarding Congressmen helping a vet with records issues, especially in the two incidents I know of which were lack of responses from the branch in question and NPRC our local Rep was very helpful.
U.S. Rep. “Doc” Hastings, 4th District, WA was an Army Reservist from 1964-1969 and has been very pro veteran here locally. I wish others were like him.
My contact with him…when purchasing our first home some years ago, we needed my VA Certificate of Eligibility to move forward in the loan process. Time was running out on our “locked in mortgage rate”. I went to his office with my DD-214 and his aide, made a call to the VA in Seattle right there and gave them my info. The VA in Seattle said if I would drive over there, they would have my Certificate ready to hand to me and…they did. The loan went through without problems, thankfully.
So there are some “good guys” around as Frank Visconi said of his Alabama Senator “good guy”. My question still stands about that Frank. If he was the good guy you report in helping with your friend’s case, why did you not pursue your case with him as well? Why Frank?

You could gave saved yourself a lot of time and $1500 (15 modules @$100/module + the “diploma” fee of $50) by reading the law summaries yourself and giving youself an A or B, rather than await the punky pass. And while it’s true that some Harvard Law grads do not pass their state bar exam the first time, their degree allows them to take it. Yours doesn’t. And I wasn’t the one who raised the law degree matter, Francis. You did. Hey, do you know a fellow named Dennis Chevalier? He’s a Ph.D.
Oh, I’m afraid you did throw out the law school issue. Whether you pas the LSAT or not does not matter. It is what determines if you can get into law school. I got what I wanted and needed out of Mid Atlantic no matter what you may think of it. The process makes you learn. Did you ever hear of Repetitiveness! I’ve also looked into other on-line law schools that cost a hell of a lot more and they use the same exact books, Gilbert. I took the same classes that I would have in a brick and mortar law school. I’m one that don’t believe that the purpose of education is to see how many you can flunk. It should be to get students to learn. You read the book, then you have to outline the whole book which makes you read it again, then you write an essay and when that is approved, you are given a short test and that is open book so you have to go through the book at least three times. That way you LEARN. You don’t worry about flunking. You THINK about learning. I’m satisfied with what I got out of it. Once again, you show your true colors. Like the grunts that believe it’s all about them and all others are nothings. If you didn’t attend a name school or if you did it on-line, it’s not really real. How far behind you are. I’m afraid it was Mr. Killeffer who posted the Eagle Scout information, not me. He used it as one of his tactics to continue belittling me. He brought attention to the Eagle Scout thing in just one more attempt to embarrass me. I never made a big deal of being an Eagle Scout. That is only one accomplishment in my meager life. Get the facts straight. I can tell you this, Mr. Killeffer is a master, I mean a real MASTER at twisting and distorting things. He even said I called my mother a hoarder. I never called my mother a hoarder. I said she was a saver and if not for her, I would not even have some of the memorabilia that I happen to have. She is long gone and I would appreciate keeping here out of this. The only way you are going to get the whole truth is to read my initial brief to the federal court. WRONG! Once again to repeat myself, my records from the day I left the U.S. until I returned are in error. Those are the dates that my UNIT moved. I was deployed to Nam with the III MAF in March 1965 and I have a Major that confirms that. We awaited on board ship off the coast until our unit arrived in May and we all landed together. You can’t see where a lowly draftee clerk could possibly just say, well the unit moved here and there at this time so he must have too. Do I have to say it again. I was held up in Danang waiting to board the plane out of there because the wounded left first and they removed the same number from the rear of the line where I always was because of my last name “V”. Even the District Judge got it wrong. He said that my records show me in Camp Butler, CALIFORNIA on 11 February 1966. I have a unit roster that shows me in Nam on 28 March 1966. Even the Judge and the AUSA don’t know that Butler is in Okinawa and not California. I never saw the likes of Kadena, don’t even know where it is. May have gone from Butler to fly out of Oki but was never there for any period of time. Just like when I said that for the month I was in Oki I was stationed at Camp McTureous (don’t know if I spelled that right) everyone on TWS jumped on that. There is no such place as McTureous. Well, hate to disappoint you but there is and it is now a training base or something like that. I don’t know and I don’t care. How come EVERYTHING before and after Nam is supposedly correct but the empty pages for the twelve months in between are not questioned. That’s what I am doing. Why is your head so far up your ass? Your inactive reserve time is just what it says, you are in the reserves but not active. However, you are subject to being called up at any time. It is part of your SIX YEAR obligation. I served four active and two inactive. Believe me, when I got out, I had no idea that I was still subject to being called back. I also had no idea that one could be promoted after active duty. It was as much a surprise to me as anyone. Now you are grabbing at straws. You know what. all of you seem to know everything about the Marine Corps and it’s procedures and you SAY you can access anything at any time, then why don’t you contact the BCNR or the Naval Records Department, or CMC and ask them what my rank is. I asked the BCNR why there is a box on the DD-214/215 that displays rank if it is not going to be changed when your DD-215 is updated. I was told that the rank box is never changed. HearPted yesterday how about the questionable font of your Purple Heart citation and your BSM citation. I figured you just chose to ignore it. Also another poster named enigma pointed out the fact that the font on those documents appears to be very circumspect. You have not answered him either. At least not to my knowledge I might be wrong.

I had no idea what TWS was until this thread came up, Francis. And, yes, there are many of us–some are day shift, others night. Some post here when they get home from work and others visit later in the evening. You’ll see. It really never ends. Good news, huh?

TWS is “Together We Served” its a military orient website that allows you to post your career and make contact with buddies who were in at the same time. It is free, however some of the perks require paying membership.
There are a lot of vets that post and once you put down you were in a certain unit at a certain time or someone searches that unit your info pops up. Chances are that Frankys unit, times and dates bought questions and put up red flags and he was called out.
I had never heard of it either.

We tried to warn you, Frank. There are bunches and bunches of us, and NONE of us appreciates an embellisher. We would much rather honor your service with you instead of having to kick your butt for claiming things which you cannot prove, and may or may not have earned, most likely did not earn. We just do not care how many hero medals you earned, until you claim things which are unproven.
Be proud of being a Marine and a Viet Nam veteran. It’s good enough for thousands of Marines, sailors, airmen, and soldiers. Some of them were storekeepers, dishwashers (or as a buddy of mine called himself, a “pot scrubber”), and all sorts of folks behind the lines getting bullets and beans to the front. It takes everyone to make the military work.
You and only you have called what appears to have been honorable service into question. It is human nature that we now are curious about what other things in your life you may have embellished, exaggerated, or lied about. You put yourself into this position. We know from experience that valor thieves lie about much more than their military experience, and we will find it.
Why are you doing this to yourself? It is so unnecessary. But now that you have come here slinging crap around, you can be assured that the scrutiny has just begun.
You have, among other things, made absurd accusations about posters’ associations with people we never heard of. Since you went to law school, you should understand that is not really something you should do. Continuing down that road while concurrently lying about other things is not a smart choice. Stopping before you dig in even deeper into that hole you are now mired in would be a much better option.

Frank- I have served on a promotion board, so I don’t subscribe to the infallibility of the records keeping system. I have seen some messed up records.
On the other hand, it would seem as though you have encountered two perfect storms in your life. One culminated on May 1, 1969 when a unit you were over three years removed from, finally pushed through your long awaited awards… a Bronze Star (V), two Purple Hearts, a Combat Action Ribbon, and a Presidential Unit Citation. At the same time, in a parallel universe, the Marine Corps Reserve Staff Sergeant Promotion Board was recommending you for promotion despite the fact that you were not a drilling reservist and did not have the most recent fitness report.
Fast forward 45 years and you are facing a perfect storm of WTF, over. Everything from May 1, 1969 has been flushed down the memory hole.
BTW, I only saw one of your PH citations and you should have had a Corpsman review it for anatomical accuracy. Your wound on the ‘upper leg,’ ‘below the knee.’ Maybe someone was viewing an upside-down photograph (or not).
