Rick Fine; the sniper/CIA/sergeant major phony
AverageNCO bumped into this Rick Fine guy at an event that he was attending. Here, I’ll let AverageNCO tell the story;
While at dinner he went on-and-on about his days in the Army. He would never give an exact date that he enlisted, but said he was trained as an Airborne Sniper, and his first mission was to oust Noriega in Panama. Because of how well he did in Panama he was transferred to work for the CIA. Throughout the next two days he told great stories to me and other about all the people he had killed. How he was trained in “Terminal Interrogation” tactics with the CIA……and it went on. Even my wife’s stolen valor radar was going wild after sitting next to this guy for less than five minutes. Here are some more highlights from his stories:
1. He wore a Command Sergeant Major rank insignia on both his cap and as a tie clip. Claims he earned a stripe after every secret mission he went on for the CIA. He said he finally had “kill a few more guys” before they gave him his E9 star.
2. I asked him why he would be a “Command” Sgt. Major since he said he was assigned to a small black ops unit of the CIA, since CSM’s are by definition assigned at a Headquarters level unit? He looked at me dumbfounded, and said it was “different when you work for Central Intelligence.”
3. Since my wife and I had been using DOD lodging along our road trip, she slyly asked him if he enjoyed staying in the VIP units since he was a retired E9. He stated he had no access to retiree benefits because all his records were destroyed to conceal the work he did for the CIA.
4. He stated he has multiple medical problems due to Gulf War Syndrome, but can’t get VA benefits because his records were destroyed.
5. He was wearing a ranger pin. I asked if was “tabbed or scrolled”, and he obviously had NO IDEA what I was talking about.
6. He did know that Army Sniper school was at Ft. Benning, but when I asked him how long the school was…he couldn’t remember.
So he sounds totally legit, right? So, AverageNCO got Rick’s FOIA and it came back like this;
He asked Rick about that and Rick told him he had a DD214 and read stuff off of it to him on the phone. AverageNCO asked him to send a copy of it to him and he got it, but it was barely legible, well, except this corner which says the date of the form is 1958;
Fine told AverageNCO that he had another more legible copy of his DD214, so we’ve been holding our breath for nearly a month waiting for it and it never showed up. So I’m taking deep breaths while I write this one up. Here’s what he wears to formal events;
I love how everything about his career was secret, except for when he’s running his mouth at the dinner table in front of strangers he met just a few moments before. But, he’s persistent. He hasn’t crumbled even a little bit on his story, despite the fact that AverageNCO picked it apart piece-by-piece.
Category: Phony soldiers
#46, Chip that dude looks familiar.
@51, Sure does Jonn….sure does…..think we’ve profiled him or maybe SV did. I can’t remember.
I think it’s this guy that AverageNCO sent us recently
@53 Yes that is the same guy. Folks, I am going to plead with you guys to not make this about Rick’s wife. She’s a good lady, who does a TON of volunteer work for veterans causes. She is the #1 victim in this mess and the reason we held out do long going public.
I have all you spunk monkeys beat. I was THE door gunner on Apollo 11! We didn’t know what to expect on the dark side of the moon so we went prepared. Collins let me blip off tracers from the M134 on the back side. But the recoil almost through us off trajectory. No one knows but we shot up the lunar module on our last pass before heading home. My records were sealed, then destroyed after they felt silly about the whole thing. It was too bad because I was really looking for some Moon Muslims to light up. No pension, no VA benefits because they didn’t believe me, at least that’s what the Psychiatrist said, but I caught the Post Traumatic Moon Disorder.
@44 Thanks for the link…do you have any extra eye bleach?
The most frustrating part about all of these idiots is knowing how many civilians are likely just in awe of the fake crap they are describing.
Somebody ought to ask this “Sniper” what his holdover is for M118LR at 800m with a scope zeroed at 100m and a 10kt full value wind blowing left to right. I’d LOVE to hear his answer.
DD 214 shows SGLI as being $10K.
SGLI was $10K from 1965-1970…
Also, did anyone else catch “Fort Gordon” on the DD 214?
Okay I’m at an actual computer where I can type. @40 Yes that’s him. His father served honorably and is buried at the National Cemetary in Chattanooga. As I stated before, I think it was his DD214 I received. Aside from the fact the from was from 1958, the soldier on the form did have a last name Fine, but only had $10K on his SGLI. That was the max coverage from 1965 to 1970. In the photo he is described as a retired Master Sergeant. But at the event in Atlanta he was wearing CSM brass, and I am 110% certain he was calling himself a Sergeant Major. When I confronted him on the phone with the FOIA info, he stated he was only an E7 and was wearing the CSM brass that a friend had given to him as a gift.(Because all career NCO’s would wear two extra stripes if they were a gift). When I asked him what an E7 in the Army was called, he said, “Master Sergeant.” In informed him and E7 was a SFC, E8 was as MSgt/1Sgt, and and E9 was a SGM. He said he had never heard of an E9(same conversation where he couldn’t remember his MOS). In doing the research I came across the other photo of the guy with the upside down KLM. Patience on that one guys, FOIA has already been sent. Folks I’ve helped bust a number of guys that I found through internet searches, but Rick was my first live-encounter with a poser. My biggest fear was that the justified venom Rick has generated would spill around to those close to him, who are not guilty in this matter. Hurl what you want at him, but I would again ask that you take it easy on the rest of his family.
I agree with AverageNCO @60. All you dickweeds need to take it easy on the family.
They have to actually live with this clown.
That’s bad enough, I’m sure.
Yep, I knew it. A First Cav pin on his hat. I guess that makes it complete. Weren’t any of these phonies in the Americal??????? Oh, never mind. All Americal Div. records were destroyed in the Chicago fire. Or was it the San Francisco earth quake. I get them mixed up.
@60 & 61 Agreed…
I was only busting on photos where they were wearing military accoutrements.
Granted wify was just doing a photo shoot but still she was sporting the Green Army class A with ribbons and all that.
Dress Up is OK for Halloween and Photo Shoots right?
/puke
@ #21 and #22: Hey, hey, HEY!!! How many time I gotta tell you two to quit fussin’ – save it for all them space aliens, asteroids, and posers ya gonna have to shoot at from them shuttle flights.
Do you still want to be a door gunner?
I CAN’T HEAR YOU!!
Speak up, men, because this is your last chance before I wash you two out of this space shuttle door gunner school. We already had to launch an extra space station to send Rick Fine out into space, and we are not gonna do that again.
Why does no one ever want to be a tailgunner any more? Why? Why? Is it so wrong to want be the dude with the machine gun in the glass bubble turret at the ass end of the bomber?
And what about those unsung heroes who shoot the six-inchers on a battlewagon? No one ever seems to want to be the guy who made Tommy Lee Jones suddenly go deaf.
I just don’t understand it. I really don’t.
@58 His answer is…..yes but only on the 2nd Tuesday after a solstice….
@62 I was thinking of you while sitting next to this clown at that dinner. “Oh lord, he’s wearing a 1st Cav pin…that one guy on TAH is going to LOVE that”
@55.
And I have you beat.
I was the Career Counselor on the Space Shuttle.
Folks, thanks for letting me rant about directing the attention toward Rick, and I appreciate the restraint toward the folks around him. There is sooooo much more than Jonn was able to put into one normal-size story. During the phone call where I was picking apart his story, he claimed his DD 214 showed he served 14 years, and got out as an E7. When I received that DD 214, one of the few things I was able to read on it was that the soldier it belonged to served 2 years 9 months and 14 DAYS! He claimed sharp-shooter as his MOS because it was one of the few things legible on that form. But it was in the Awards&Decorations block! I finally told him he would have had to go to infantry AIT if he was a sniper. Yes! he said I went to infantry school. So then I suggested since he was in infantry, his MOS must be an “18 series”. Yes! he said, 18 series. It’s really sad when an Air Force is more versed in Army nomenclature than a supposed retired Army Master Sergeant….or Sergeant First Class Command Major……whatever his rank is that day. I have to head out….but maybe I’ll come back to tell the story about the conversation I had with “Rick’s lawyer”
@69 You could always ask next time if his sharpshooter school awarded him the 84C Series MOS…..that’s a motion picture specialist or it used to be once upon a time, they even made a little movie called 84 Charlie MoPic….
Guys you’re all wrong!!
He’s the real deal!! His work for the CIA was so deep (fried apparently) black ops that for extincting every trace of his service they didn’t just burn his records, no they even went as far as cleaning his mind from any basic knowledge of the armed forces. That’s some serious MIB shit…
😉
Airborne Sniper…. Ask him how he holds his rifle in his hand while jumping or how many static line jumps he did with “central intelligence”. Then ask him how many with “the agency” and just wait for his reaction… POS…. guess being a passenger on a plane and owning a hunting riflle with a scope kind of makes you an airborne sniper -.-
like the SFB “Green Beret” Captain here in Houston who turned out to be such a flaming liar… his wife is reportedly a real nice lady and had no idea her husband was lying to her, too.
I feel sad for the family members of these despicable fucks but I sometimes wonder; how the fuck do you not see through this shit???? Are they retarded or are they complicit? Makes me scratch my head…
@55, Damn, an M134? I was Door Gunner on the first two Apollo Missions, and I was issued an M250 Plasma Gun, DAMN, would that fry any target!! You Space Shuttle Door Gunners, YOU’RE ALL WEAK,… I’m even posting this sans my tinfoil hat, and *PZZZZT*!,……. Ooohh look, something shiny!!!
Damn, AverageNCO! Wish you would of had my contact info now. I’d of gladly hauled butt to ATL (hop,skip n jump from it) with camcorder and camera in both hands. Sheeeeeoot! I saw that 1st Cav hat pin he’s sporting too. *SPIT* AT least he isn’t claiming to have been an airborne, sniper MP. Wait, wait, wait. I just had a thought! This asshat must be real good friends with that world famous (in his own mind) Bill “ASSASSIN” Perry. Both of ’em went to Phoenix Program on the same short bus….
@ Old Trooper. I may have flunked out of SSDG Qual Course, but I did finally complete Space Shuttle Door Hinge Greasing School (SSDHGS).
@73 Even mobsters have loved ones. So do we. And they all have the same thing in common: they see only the good in the person, and turn a blind eye to the bad. That’s why spouses cover up for their mate, why parents cover up for children, why siblings will cover for a brother or sister. It’s not right, it shouldn’t happen, but it does happen all the same. Until it goes public, and the family is hit with the cold reality of just how bad it is, they won’t acknowledge the wrong. Sometimes not even then.
I should take a picture of my 214 and publish it. I have a medal from the King of Stormwind himself. I also have 60 titles, and well over 150,000 kills to my name in various battlegrounds.
How come no one wants to be the guy who rings the backing bell when folks are on the commode?
Because, Ex-PH that is my job. 😉
Streetsweeper 🙂 🙂 🙂
I retired out of First Cav.
Sadly, its asshats like this that make me sometimes cringe to admit it.
To all you nutless wonders ( Ladies too, lets keep this EO) out there that want to lie to the world….find a new Division to pick on…pretty please?
Nobody, and I mean nobody, wears a Sniper hat.
This turd is loose stool.
Weak.
I feel like I was spoiled by Nikko. I really wanted this guy to ride a bald eagle into Panama and beat Noriega with a sea cucumber or something. O well..
#78 Maddie, any DD-214 on the Alliance side is either total weaksauce or as fake as a three dollar bill. 😉
Now MY DD-214 was signed by Hellscream hisself, verifying my NEC as “HUNTARD 1st Class.” How you like them apples, missy?
ROFL!! 😉
You guys are wienies. All of you.
I was the first woman Montgomery Scott ever loved.

Who else could pound down a highball glass of Aldebaran whiskey in one gulp?
@54
Just for some clarity, you’re saying his wife has no idea he is faking? She’s active volunteering for veterans and it’s never occurred to her there was something a little fishy about her husband’s claims? Maybe I’ve been hanging around here too much but I find that hard to believe.
One last story before I go to bed. And it’s the probably the thing that made me more angry than anything else in this fiasco. As I stated earlier, I met Rick at an event last April that both our wives were participating in. One of the partners of the main event is The Thank You Foundation. Each year they recognize some of the ladies or their spouses who are veterans. It’s just a simple certificate, but it’s a nice gesture. I encourage everyone to check them out: http://www.thethankyoufoundation.org
I was scheduled to go to the 2012 event but couldn’t go at the last minute because my deployment was moved up. My daughter accepted my certificate on my behalf. The lady from the foundation got a bit choked up giving the certificate to my daughter, and it was a nice moment. My family showed me the video when I got back stateside. So I went to this year’s event and got to meet Rick. I spent a multiple hours since April gathering info on him. One night my wife and daughter told me I should watch the 2012 video one more time. Guess who followed my daughter on stage to accept a certificate thanking him for “his service” YEP, good ole Rick. We were willing to not go public if he would return the certificate, but he’s sticking to the story and keeping his certificate. If your wondering what the thing on his chest says, he served as an “ambassador” for the event. A nice honorary position. The event organizers are fully aware of his nonsense, and I wouldn’t be shocked if he doesn’t show up in 2014.

@87 I’ve sent her everything I found out, and right now she’s kind of doing the Patsy Cline thing. I know what you’re thinking. But she’s married to him, and I’m just some guy she’s met once in her life. We’ll see what posting on here does, along with some time. But I’d again ask that anger be directed at he phony, not his victims.
@64: Sorry. My bad. But he started it!!!
@76: Well, that is quite the accomplishment! Jack Bauer wouldn’t even attempt that one.
😉
@67….Thanks bro, it’s so nice to be thought of in cherished moments like that. 🙂 Good work on this guy.
@82 Well said Doc…well said. As I was saying, how come nobody picks on the Americal?
Honor and Courage
#78 and #85 – I have you both beat… my 214 has on it “HE IS THE SWORDMASTER!!!”
Good job AverageNCO – the foundation looks like it does some really good work for AD and vets in the Ohio area. Unfortunately, as we seem to read about here at TAH, it also attracts the wannabe, poseur douchebags that are looking for attention, at any means. Fine is another in a long list of rump riding rangers (no offense to those of you that are/were RANGERS) that show up in public like a turd in a punchbowl
What a sorry excuse for a human being.
…and who wears a gold rank insignia on their tie?
WTF?!
I’ve never seen that before.
Another sorry piece of poser shit; his father is probably spinning in his grave at Chattanooga National Cemetary as sonny boy steals daddy’s hard-earned valor. What a sorry spectacle…
I have recently completed the Cyberdyne Systems Series 800 technician course, and let me tell you, your space shuttle door gunner ain’t got a thing on these babies. That T-800 is one slick piece of engineering.
# 85, the proof is in the kills my friend. How many you got???
FOR THE ALLIANCE! (the pretty people)
