William George Hackler, SF/POW Vietnam Vet phony
This is from Scotty‘s research and I really hate this guy. He claimed he was a POW and covered up a real POW’s name on a list to prove it to everyone, with the worst alteration job known to Man;
He obviously failed scissors and glue in Kindergarten. But, he got some POW plates in Virginia despite his obviously poor forgery skills, and the State of Virginia caught up with him;
He looks like he’s seriously rethinking the wisdom of his decision, doesn’t he? This is what he told everyone he earned during his tour of Vietnam;
Well, there’s a problem there – he didn’t earn any of that shit. The closest he got to Vietnam was Hawaii. And, oh, if you haven’t figured it out yet, he wasn’t special forces, either. He was a light vehicle driver, which is just like special forces, only completely different. And his only award was a National Defense Service Medal. Here’s his FOIA;
Scotty has Hackler’s forged DD214 and his real one, if you want to look at it. But, I hope his cell mate dick punches him after every meal and first thing in the morning.

Holy douche-canoes! SF & POW.. Surprised he wasn’t a SOG-seal-sniper to boot!
@1: That’s MAC-V SOG SEAL-Sniper to you, mister!!!
I noticed that his CIB has the 2nd award star, but he’s only claiming Vietnam, so I would have called bullshit right then and there.
No ARVN campaign ribbon. When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn?
The closest I got to Vietnam was sitting at a Movieola in the MOPIC department at NPC. That’s it.
Like that SeaBee I met in September said, just what is wrong with being a mechanic?
Someone find him and give him a piece of my mind. Thanks.
Makes me want to go to jail just so I can shit in his Wheaties on a daily basis.
No Army Service ribbon? SF Tab + BAC + JM + Basic + whatever else = Time.
Ribbons up top do not match with what is below.
Also, is that a UN Ribbon in the upper picture?
coasted through a 2 year draft hitch in Hawaii and got out as a Pvt. That fact and this arrest says it all.I wonder if his lies stretch back to 69, or if he started in the 80’s when it became fashionable again to support the troops?
Looking at his records at Scotty’s, he shows 103 days lost time (3 periods – 2 days, 22 days, and 79 days). Several lines in the “Appointments and Reductions” section of his of his DA20 are also blacked out. But he left the service as a PVT/E1.
I’d guess he might have worn a stripe or two at least once, even if he left with none. Yeah, I’m thinking Maui Wowie or local honey – or maybe a combo of both – was his downfall. Well that along with being a LSoS.
Ex-PH2: it was possible for someone to qualify for the VSM but not for the VCM – a fair number of Marines did that early in Vietnam because their tours were relatively short. The VSM required 1 day in-country if assigned to a unit/activity/ship there, or 30 days consecutive/60 days nonconsecutive if TDY. The VCM required 180 days in-country. However, US Army personnel were typically in Vietnam for a year, so for Army personnel serving in Vietnam a VCM was almost automatic.
I know, Hondo, but if he was a POW, he’d kind of HAVE that in his rack, wouldn’t he?
If he got to Hawaii, I’m guessing he was heading somewhere he didn’t want to go. If I were he, I would not order either draft beer or cream of anything ever again.
He is still a member of the VFW also.
Which post? Sounds like someone needs to call them up.
There are very few things which honk me off faster than lying about having a Purple Heart. Lying about being a POW would be one of those few.
Might we assume that anyone who falsely claims being a POW is volunteering to spend some time in a simulated Hanoi Hilton? We would have plenty of volunteers to staff it. How’s about the duration of sentence being 2 days for each day of their lies? Double that if they lie about their lies.
VFW Post 7854
How are you drafted during a war, but then never get deployed?
You’d think servicing stateside with such skills would at least result in E2, even if he didn’t swallow……
Ex-PH2: dunno how POW time outside of South Vietnam was counted. I’d guess it would be, but I have to say I’m not sure.
In this guy’s case, neither happened – so it doesn’t matter.
FatCircles, not everyone who was drafted was sent to Vietnam or even deployed. Roughly, 60% who went were volunteeers, 40% were draftees.
Minor quibble Jonn: The draft ended 7 years before I joined up in 1980 but IIRC a “RA” service number indicates RA, which is to say someone who enlisted, whereas a draftee would be indicated by a “US” serial number. Maybe those who were there can correct me, but I had thought this was the way it was. My dad was a RA officer and had an RA SN.
Something is wrong with that DD-214.
Draftee serial numbers begin with,”US”, not, “RA”.
How did this fuckstain get in to the VFW?
I’ve been asked multiple times to join (Retired USAF 1983 to 2007) but I have to explain to them that I’m not eligible.
Maybe they just take your word for it.
When I joined the American Legion, I just filled out a card and then checked the box for my service time and that was that. Went to a meeting where I was “voted” into the post and then wrote them a check for dues.
No one ever asked for a DD-214 or anything. I was still a reservist so I had a valid ID card. I don’t even remember if they asked to see that either.
He was enlisted instead of a draftee. His enlistment was for 3 years. He was discharged a year early. A retraction & correction has been made on his blog of shame.
@14 FC- From his DD214, he dropped out of high school and joined the Army shortly after he turned 17. It also appears he liked the Army about as much as he liked school. He probably also has a couple of fake degrees.
You know, if each VFW Post announced that every swinging Richard had to submit his DD 214 for scrutiny by a certan date or be banished, the membership would fall. When membership falls, dues drop. It is in the interest of the VFW not to look too closely or more than once at the docs. Those who argue otherwise can please include why so many freakin’ fakes are in the VFW. Or the VFW can do what the Vietnam Veterans of America does: Accept ANYBODY who served during the official war years, whether or not they ever left the states, let alone went to Vietnam.
Where was this asshole back in the 70’s and early 80’s when it wasn’t cool to be a Vietnam vet?
What, no 1st Cav. Patch on his “I love me plaque”? Same old story out of the poser playbook. Gotta be combat arms, gotta have a CIB, throw in Special Forces, and then for added torque, throw in POW. Again, there is nothing wrong with being a cook;mechanic;clerk. There’s a lot wrong with claiming all that fruit salad. When ya didn’t earn it. E-1 after two years really a high speed troop.
I’m sure the VFW and American Legion do some good work. But it’s dumb fucks like this that keep me from joining either of these organizations

Two years, out as an E1, yeah, real high-speed-low-drag walking SHITBIRD!!!!
How can we be sure he wasn’t a MACV SOG Supersonic Sniper that piggybacked on the wings of Fighter planes to snipe at NVA Generals? OH, stupid moi, that was his klassifyed sooperseekrit MOS!!
Guy is out with no bail. He will probably get a tap on the pecker and a fine from the court for cheating the DMV. The only reason they chased this is because he cheated them out of registration fees. His faking combat service and medals wont even be bought up. Call me cynical but Prosecutors simply don’t go after stolen valor, they are happy with just running them up for fraud.
Hopefully Bubba/Thor/Julio/Tiny is reminding him daily, via his anal dilation therapy sessions, that Stolen Valor is a crime…
Holy shit! a phony claiming SF/POW…I’m assuming Team Sergeant and PS.com are following the blood trails on this one and nailing this motherfucker hard dead to right and making him “famous”. You don’t want to piss off the Quiet Professionals…you really don’t, as this douchenugget is about to find out…
And he’ll be hating life when they do, they don’t pull any punches!
@22, my old VFW #651(Which lost its charter 2 years ago)required my DD214, then even did a FOIA to make double sure. Been an at large member since.
Words of wisdom posted by William G. Hackler, June 7, 2013
“I am 63 and all the tips in the world just don’t seem to help if a person is 60 or over. There is a wealth of experience and wisdom in the older worker that most companies seem to pass up just to get someone for less money. It’s all about the money! I truly wish it was like in the old days, when people my age were considered to be the backbone of America! It’s really a shame that young people just don’t seem to get it. There has to be pride in what you do or it’s just a job!”
Obviously, he must have been out of work at the time. So I guess thinks he has wisdom, a backbone and pride. Don’t think so!
He couldn’t find any work THIS year? Did he even try?
Job openings are up, dammit! Older, experienced, skilled workers are wanted.
This is baloney.
Well, I had to show my DD214 to join the VFW and I even had to send it to TSO when he put me in the Legion, I had to show one to join the 82d Airborne Division Association, too. So I don’t know how these guys are slipping through.
Jonn, maybe it’s because some of those outfits are more concerned with quantity than quality when it comes to membership?
Hey,
What’s up w/ the Phony Phil thread(s)?
Why is this guy trying to mimic Sean Connery?
@36……jonn, sometimes I get a little carried away when it comes to phony Vietnam vets. I’m just not sure how I would. React, bellying up to the bar at the VFW or Americn Legion and having some asshole tell me how he won the Vietnam War all by himself.
I just think they need to be more diligent when checking prospective members bonafides. Would be nice too have a beer once in a while with some of the boys.
This guy really did steal the valor of another soldier when he cut and pasted his information over that soldiers. He’s standing on the back of a man better than he is, and I sincerely hope he gets more than a slap on the wrist.
This one is something like the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. Am seriously thinking of some way to organize an ad hoc group that would show up for court appearances and such to make certain that justice is served in cases such as this.
Hmmm. Needs much more thought. We have done very nicely in tracking fools like this one, so no need to fix what ain’t broke.
@42…..I think your idea has merit. I’d sign up for that gig. Tell you what, you bring the ice I’ll bring the beer to get. It cold. (smile)
And a WWII Occupation Ribbon?
Is that correct?
@44 Green Thumb,
I concur, it does look like the Army Occupation ribbon with the Berlin Airlift (airplane) device in the VFW image at the very top of this thread.
@45.
That could explain the UN ribbon (1945).
But dude is claiming Vietnam?
Maybe his father’s, uncles’, etc. ribbons or such?
Confused here.
Strong back; weak mind.
@46 .
Maybe, we have Soup’s grand-daddy.
Buck Sergeant Crapweasel.
@ 45 & 46: It looks like he’s wearing a WWII/Korea vet’s ribbon rack upside down. I flipped the picture over and, worn properly, it looks like the rack has an ARCOM, GCM with clasp(s), American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with device, NDSM, Korean Service Medal w/ campaign stars, UN Nations Service Medal-Korea, and an out of precedence WWII Victory Medal.
@49.
What kind of moron wears a ribbon rack upside down?
Actually, don’t respond to that. I have seen several on here that do.
