Larry E. Sims; another military career measured in weeks
Someone sent me some research that he did on a guy he met at a ceremony to dedicate a school in the name of Medal of Honor recipient SFC Paul Ray Smith who was killed in Iraq in 2003. Apparently, our hero was helping to get a memorial together for SFC Smith and he solicited help from local businesses. That’s when this Larry E. Sims shows up and starts telling tall tales about his own service; that he was a Captain in the 101st Airborne Division, that he had three combat tours in the war against terror, a CIB, and two stars on his jump wings. This is what his LinkedIn profile said about his military career;
That conflicts greatly with his military records;
Yup, that’s right, he served about five weeks. When confronted with the truth, of course, he apologized for it (because he was caught) and said that he had just been inflating his resume and got carried away. Yeah, it’s not hard to embellish a 5 week military career, but he kind of carried it to the extreme. He had to put those combat jump stars on his jump wings even though the 101st hasn’t had a combat jump since World War II.
So, Sims begs our hero for “mercy” and the first kind of mercy our hero thought of was a guest appearance on TAH. Ta-da! Mercy!
Category: Phony soldiers
One can get a National Defense Service Medal for only doing 5 weeks? He probably spent 4 weeks out-processing.
An bizzare, odious, serous particle of fecal matter from questionable sources and origins.
Otherwise known as a Turd.
For you, there ex-PH2.
See, I am tyring.
Looks like his employer has his fake info posted as well. http://www.dbhealthcare.com/leadership/
For shame; this guy served as a chaplin?

@2 GT, I appreciate it.
So this weasely lackwit has a gedunk medal, eh?
Gee, don’t we all?
The Distinguished Service Medal gets these posers all the time. They don’t do their homework enough to realize, even a combat-decorated O3 is going to have a DSM. I also like how despite all his overseas tours, he claims a GWOT, but forgot about the GWOT-E. And PH2, the word weasel came to mind to me as well. In fact, I would like to call upon the ghost of deceased MASH actor Larry Linville and ask permission that we borrow his nickname, and can we dub this Larry….FERRET FACE
A little carried away?
He should be proud for the accomplishments he had. PFC in only five weeks? I had to actually graduate from boot camp to get PFC and I was proud of that.
Overseas tours wouldn’t neccessarily grant a GWOT-E depending on the location. Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo (depending on the op) would grant the specific campaign medal instead.
So, I emailed the company (after getting a screenshot of the page) and got a response from their CEO:
——————-
Dear Friends,
First of all, thank you very much for serving for this country and protecting all of us, day and night.
Thank you for brining the information about Larry Sims to my attention. I sincerely appreciate it and thank you for looking out. Discussion has taken place with Larry, and he is being told to make required changes and present the truth. Also, requested our web services to change his profile to reflect the truth on our website. I believe in providing at least one chance to everyone, and Larry is given that one chance to change everything and represent the truth and nothing but the truth going forward.
Thanks and Regards,

Absolutely right Mustang, but I would assume if he would claim a DSM, he might as well add the GWOT-E to his fruit salad.
And his employer has changed their web page in lightning speed. They dropped all the officer/hero stuff, and it now reads:
Before his career in Healthcare management began, Larry served as a soldier in the U.S. Army.
Yeahhhhh, because that’s not misleading either. And you wonder why guys working in SALES get bad raps.
Mustang: not exactly.
In the Army, prior to Feb 2005 tours in Afghanistan and Iraq were recognized with the GWOTEM. In Feb 2005, the ICM and ACM became effective for the Army.
Individuals completing the requirements for the GWOTEM prior to the effective date of the ACM and ICM remain qualified for the GWOTEM. They may retain the GWOTEM or elect to turn it in and receive the ACM/ICM as a replacement award. If they elect to turn it in and receive the ACM/ICM as a replacement, the GWOTEM comes off their official records and the ACM/ICM replaces it.
Persons completing the requirements for the ACM or ICM after Feb 2005 should have received the ACM or ICM vice the GWOTEM.
Persons with a tour that qualify for both for service in Afghanistan or Iraq (e.g., with 30 days on either side of the effective date) get one or the other – not both – unless they have a secondary means of qualifying for the second award (change of duty station, extensive temporary duty in the second area, etc . . . ).
If I recall correctly, my SGM in Iraq had the GWOTEM for his first tour in Iraq (2003) and received the ICM for our tour (his second time in Iraq, my first).
Green Thumb: in polite company, the acronym LSoS also works. So long as you don’t explain it too explicitly, that is.
The French phrase “morceau de merde” also might be a reasonable choice – with the same caveat. (smile)
Just an afterthought,and I’m sure it goes with a lot of the other POS posers on here. This walking Stool Sample seems to have a pretty good job. He got it because of his resume. What are the odds that someone else ( perhaps a Vet who was honest about being a 4 year Petty Officer 3rd Class) matched up well with Ferret Face here and lost out on the Strength of his being a decorated officer?
And Stolen Valor never hurts anyone.. SMGDMFH.
@11 Not disagreeing with you, just mentioned it as the regulation currently now. He didn’t mention any dates on his LinkedIn profile but did list the ACM, ICM, and KCM which would negate having the GWOTEM (unless he deployed to one of those locations twice, once before Feb 2005).
Back in 2005, about half the Marines in my platoon that had already been to Iraq decided just to keep the GWOTEM instead of converting it since they knew they were going to get the ICM anyway when they deployed with the MEU.
Mustang – agreed. He could also have been referencing the GWOTSM. Like the NDSM, pretty much anyone serving on active duty for other than training after 9/11 rates that one.
He also claimed 3 GWOT tours. Don’t think Kosovo counts as a GWOT tour.
Oddly enough, Kosovo is one of the zones that qualifies for the GWOTEM unless the actions were covered by one of the specific campigns from ’99.
There are about 50 countries on the list. Even Gitmo is on there.
*campaigns. Damn, can’t spell today.
and what other embellishments are there on his resume?
a liar is a liar…
Oddly enough, his LinkedIn profile stated that he retired on Sept 1, 2012…the same time at which he started working for his present company.
@7,I know we used to call that the blue falcon promotion. In the 90s you could go to basic as a PV2 or PFC depending on how many others you talked into joining. I don’t know if they are still doing it.
Mustang- So basically he could leave off his resume what he was actually doing for the past 20 years. But we’ll give him another chance…
Mustang: true about Kosovo. But since Larry the Liar claimed the KCM, he was claiming to have served in one of those specified campaigns – whether he realized it or not – plus 3 GWOT tours. You don’t get two medals for the same tour, and the GWOTEM isn’t awarded if a campaign medal is awarded for the same service.
@22 Gotcha. Just went back and looked and he claimed 2 tours in Iraq.
I appreciate the opportunity to comment upon this distinguished gentleman’s errant record of service. I am quite confident that he regrets the embellishments to his otherwise legitimate military service record and that his motivation was, on the whole, rather selfless. Well, that’s what he would like someone here to say, anyway. And now that someone has said it, with all insincerity and tongue firmly in cheek, permit me to join in the well derserved chorous of derision for this POS. It’s not enough that this ignoramus took what is not his and called it his own, he attempted to pad his putrid profile by using his lies and thievery in the name of a postumous Medal of Honor recipient. May all who speak the name Sims hereafter deliver it with a thick and slimy expectoration.
PFC in under 5 weeks? In ’60, one was required to complete basic training before consideration to E-2. I think that I got my promotion orders when I arrived at AIT Infantry, Ft. Dix. I made E-3 after completing Jump school at Ft. Campbell, over 6 months into my service time, and I was at the same schedule as those around me.
@AverageNCO, I think that Ferret Face is almsot too good for him, as Ferret Face did indeed serve in the Korean War on MASH for 10 seasons.
However, Frank Burns was as willing to be a jackass as one can get, so perhaps Ferret Face is appropriate. He does vaguely resemble Frank Burns, too.
I concur.
Ex-PH2: how about “Larry the Ferret-Faced Liar”? Or “Larry the Liar, AKA Ferret Face”?
“I believe in providing at least one chance to everyone, and Larry is given that one chance to change everything and represent the truth and nothing but the truth going forward.” I never trust people who use the expression “going forward.” Hey, that’s just me. I wonder what the boss would say if Homer Sims here had been misrepresenting himself to customers of the company, perhaps lying about his healthcare background to increase customer regard for the company. Would that have merited him another chance? I wonder.
Guys this this always show up again sooner or later.
Having a couple of these myself, I’d say there’s a good chance he could be lying about these on his resume:
– Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
– Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator
– Critical Incident Stress Management (Individual and Group Certifications)
– Microsoft Certified Professional
These are nice-to-haves, but I wonder if he’s using them to fluff as well:
Groups and Associations:
– American Academy of Dermatology
– Florida Society of Dermatology
– Association of Dermatology Managers
– Member of the IT board for the AAD
– Tampa Bay Regional FEMA CISM team
He’s removed these:
– Military Officers Association of America
– Reserve Officers Association
– The Military Coalition
– The American Legion
Well, I’m guessing his boss doesn’t have an issue with padding the bio….notice the boss lists one of his education credentials as, “almost completed his M.S. in Health Information Technology from Northeastern University.”
So I guess we’ll add Healthcare Management to Horseshoes & Hand Grenades
I just checked the company website and this is what is posted :
“Larry Holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Florida, a BS in Information Technology and Business from the University of Phoenix and a MBA from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Before his career in Healthcare management began, Larry served as a soldier in the U.S. Army.”
I did not see what was originally posted but assume that this is the amended version. I suppose this is an accurate characterization of the truth. Barely.
@Hondo: Larry the Ferret-Faced Liar — sounds good to me.
So….. the next question, I suppose, would be to enquire about the accuracy of those college transcripts he claims?
Mr. Sims is no longer on the DB website at all. One can only hope this led to further inquiry and Mr. Sims is no longer employed. I mean… one can dream, right?
“Larry served as a soldier in the U.S. Army.” He may have served a soldier in the Army but it appears his service was as a trainee.
@25, there were a few ways to earn PFC before basic in 95, including the aforementioned enlistment referrals. Other ways were JROTC or Civil Air patrol, and/or college credits.
@32.
It would appear the last two “degrees” were “on-line”.
He was terminated at 2050 hrs.
Nice.
@33.
Do you think “Turd” is appropriate now?
Here is the remainder of what was collected on ferret face turd weasel:
http://imgur.com/a/7mn9G
His claimed deployments were exactly that of a guy I work with. He has five kids and his family had to endure that time apart while he was in Kosovo, Iraq (invasion and surge) and most recently Afghanistan. Today, honor prevails. Thanks TAH.
Army “Capt” . I mean CPT.
Roger that.
@43, GT, how about your last choice: ferret face turd weasel.
And good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are.
Kudos, Jonn. Nice to see justice in action.
Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.
Maybe the hired him as the “token white guy”. With his “resume”, he should have no problem bouncing back. Maybe one of those green energy companies that the adminsitartion has been throwing taxpayer money at could use him.
We may need to do a follow up on his degree programs. University of Maryland Baltimore County does not have a MBA program offered at their resident Graduate School program, nor online.
Anyone care to help validate the University of Phoenix and University of South Florida claims?

@39
Are you just teasing us or did you hear something back from the company that they fired him?
If he did indeed get fired he’s gonna have a hard time finding a new job if HR happens to do a Google search.
He’s also deleted his LinkedIn profile 😉
