Person who jumped perimeter fence is hit and killed by Frontier plane during takeoff on Denver runway, airport says
One person was struck and killed by a Frontier Airlines plane two minutes after jumping a perimeter fence and crossing a runway at Denver International Airport late Friday, the airport said.
The pedestrian, who has not been identified, is not believed to be an airport employee, the airport said in a statement.
Flight 4345, an Airbus A321, was departing from Denver en route to Los Angeles and carried 224 passengers and 7 crew members, Frontier Airlines said in a statement. It was scheduled to depart at 10:39 p.m. local time.
As the plane was departing, “the aircraft reportedly struck a pedestrian on the runway during takeoff,” the airline said. The incident happened at 11:19 p.m. local time, according to the airport.
“Smoke was reported in the cabin and the pilots aborted takeoff. Passengers were then safely evacuated via slides as a matter of precaution.”
There was a brief engine fire that was quickly extinguished by the Denver Fire Department, the airport said in a statement early Saturday.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and passengers were taken to the terminal. Twelve people reported minor injuries and five of them were transported to local hospitals, according to the airport.
Passenger Jose Cervantes said he had just started feeling the plane tilt up when he heard a thud.
“I looked to my right, and I just see the right wing just on fire and like, it’s exploding,” Cervantes told CNN affiliate KCNC. “The aircraft lands back down, and they kind of like swivel side to side, and then they stop, shut it off right away, and then the cabin starts to fill up with smoke.”
“I thought I was going to burn to death. You know, when I just saw the fire and the smoke, I just thought I was going to burn,” Cervantes said.
Cervantes’ mother was one of the passengers injured, he told KCNC. “My mom actually ended up going straight down the slide and like locking her knee when she hit the floor,” Cervantes said. “She doesn’t have any fractures, but we still gotta take her to the ER.”
By Saturday morning, most of the flight’s passengers had departed Denver International on a new Frontier flight, the airport said.
Shaken by the incident, John Anthens, 56, and his 30-year-old son chose to skip their flight home to Nebraska and rent a car for the eight-hour drive.
Anthens said the incident was too traumatic. “I saw a little spark, and then I saw and heard a big explosion, like a bomb going off,” he told CNN, as he described seeing the engine burst.
CNN has reached out to the Denver Fire Department and Frontier for more information. The airport said the incident is still under investigation.

Berkeley magistrate suspended for false emergency report
A Berkeley County [W Virginia] magistrate has been suspended without pay and prohibited from hearing any cases after she was accused of reporting a false emergency incident.
Earlier this month, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Adam Boothby filed the criminal complaint against Dorothy “Dottie” Yost, 48, of Bunker Hill.
In the complaint, Boothby says he was contacted by Corporal Philip Butcher regarding an incident at the Berkeley County Judicial Center and was told Corporal Gary Harmison had investigated a reported battery by inmate Mark Travis Barrett against Yost during an arraignment at Eastern Regional Jail. The report said Yost had told Deputy Tyler Turner that Barrett had grabbed her wrist.
“She advised that when she was grabbed, she had to pull away,” the criminal complaint states. “Dorothy Yost demonstrated to Deputy Turner the force in which she pulled her hand back. She additionally advised that the inmate had become agitated and raised his fist into the air, which she also demonstrated to Deputy Turner pulling her fist back in a fighting stance.
“She additionally told Deputy Turner that the CO (correctional officer) told the inmate that he would be put to the ground if he kept it up.”
Boothby says he reviewed video footage from the jail that “did not match the statement.”
“The video evidence did not show any instances of impending violence or acts of violence, nor does Dorothy Yost show any physical signs of fear toward Mark Barrett, such as attempting to back away or asking for assistance from correctional officers who are within a couple feet of her,” the March 12 criminal complaint states. “None of the correctional officers advised that there was a battery or circumstance involving Mark Barrett’s arraignment that would warrant the use of force or fear of physical safety.
“Based on the statements obtained and the video footage reviewed, Dorothy Yost’s complaint of battery by Mark Barrett appears fabricated/false.”
The Judicial Disciplinary Counsel filed its complaint March 13 against Yost with the state Judicial Investigation Commission as well as its motion to suspend Yost without pay with the state Supreme Court citing Rule 2.14 of the Rules of Judicial Disciplinary Procedure. The JIC began an immediate investigation that is ongoing.
The motion to suspend cites a 2016 case in which the Supreme Court held that a magistrate candidate was ineligible to hold office because he was convicted of the misdemeanor offense of reporting a false emergency “since it was a crime of moral turpitude.”
The JIC motion lists seven Codes of Judicial Conduct Yost allegedly violated, including compliance with the law (1.1), confidence in the judiciary (1.2), avoiding abuse of the prestige of judicial office (1.3), impartiality and fairness (2.2), bias, prejudice and harassment (2.3), external influences on judicial conduct (2.4) and competence, diligence and cooperation (2.5).
“There is probable cause to believe that respondent has engaged in a serious misdemeanor violation as well as violations of rules … of the Code of Judicial Conduct,” the motion states.
The motion also recommends Yost be suspended without pay while the case is pending “because of the serious nature of the charge, the fact that the alleged acts occurred while respondent was at work as a magistrate and to ensure the public’s continued faith in the integrity, independence and impartiality of the judicial system in West Virginia.”
The Supreme Court issued its order March 19 suspending Yost without pay and barring her from hearing any cases.
A Berkeley County native, Yost was elected magistrate for the county’s District 7 in 2024 to a four-year term. Before that, she worked for private attorneys, the Public Defender’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office as a legal assistant. She also was a patient advocate at both Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center.

Basque woman forced to flee own home after migrant squatter stops paying rent, breaks furniture, and calls her a ‘whore’
A woman in Basauri, Spain, says her life has been destroyed after a homeless migrant she took in through a charity association refused to leave her home, stopped paying rent, vandalized her property, and subjected her to a campaign of verbal abuse and intimidation.
Estíbaliz Kortazar, who initially rented a room to the man in a spirit of solidarity, has now been forced to abandon her own house out of fear.
“I met him through an organization that helps the homeless,” Estíbaliz told 20minutos. The man, a 48-year-old foreign national, agreed to pay €350 a month and initially honored the agreement. But after the informal contract ended at the end of last year, he refused to move out. By February, he had stopped paying rent altogether. Even before that, Estíbaliz says, the situation had become intolerable.
“He would take all my cooking pots into his room and leave nothing for me to use,” she said. “He turned up the television at midnight so I couldn’t sleep, he broke my furniture, he called me a slut, a dirty bitch, and a whore.” She says the man also tampered with the door locks, allowing himself to come and go at will while denying her full access to her own home.
Estíbaliz, a teacher who works online, said the squatter deliberately disrupted her lessons and left common areas in a state of filth. As utility bills soared, she grew convinced the man’s goal was to financially and psychologically break her.
She filed a complaint with the authorities, but was told the only real option was to keep reporting the matter. By January 2025, she had launched formal legal proceedings. In March, a court issued an eviction order, but due to Spain’s Decree 11/2020 — emergency legislation introduced during the pandemic to protect vulnerable tenants — the eviction was suspended until the end of 2025.
Unable to continue living with the man, Estíbaliz moved in with her brother in June and is currently on medical leave, undergoing psychological treatment. “He’s a psychopath, and his only goal is to ruin my life,” she said. “He’s not right in the head. He hasn’t attacked me yet, but I’m afraid he might.”
She emphasized that she is not seeking financial compensation. “He owes me over €2,100, but I don’t care about the money. I just want my house back.”
Estíbaliz has now launched a petition demanding faster eviction procedures in cases involving non-paying tenants.
“I feel like crying every time I enter my own house. I turn the key and feel terror. I used to rent a room, and now I live with a squatter who terrifies me and whom I can’t kick out,” Estíbaliz writes. “You don’t know what it’s like to live under the same roof as the person who’s making your life miserable. Watching them destroy your house… and your life. And feeling abandoned by your country’s justice system because the squatter who lives like a king has more rights than you.”
“Sign to demand that the processes to evict a non-paying tenant from your home be expedited now,” the petition reads. It has already received more than 27,000 signatures.
In her appeal to the public, she added: “The law protects squatters more than homeowners. The courts and police have forced me to live with an abusive man. I just want to feel safe in my own home again.”

HAAAAAAAAHAAAAAHAAAHAAhaaaahaaahaaha!
And that’s all I have to say about that.
The squatter situation seems to be out of hand in more than a few places. As for the Spanish woman, well, that’s where “charity” gets you these days, sadly enough. You think you’re doing something good by taking in a triple “victim” (homeless African immigrant). Then the tables flip, the government you’ve trusted as a productive member of society takes the side of the squatter as a “vulnerable tenant”, and you’re effectively out of a home until this gets resolved. Let’s just be glad that he hasn’t committed any physical violence against her… yet.
I don’t get two things: 1) why “tenant” rights are protected so much more than the rights of property owners, and 2) why people continue to let themselves get into these situations by inviting strangers (and in some cases, relatives and friends) into their homes for little to no rent. Cohabitation can be difficult. Now imagine a strained landlord/tenant-style relationship where you feel you’re doing someone a favor, but they realize they have the law on their side. There should be a formal lease involved, with timely rent payments and proper maintenance of the property by both the lessee and lessor. Both parties should honor the agreement, and any legal issues should be taken up by a court based primarily on that agreement. Landlord wants to break a lease halfway through without proper reason or to raise rent? No-go. Renter stops paying rent or starts destroying the house? No-go.
I suppose it could be worse, she could have taken a shortcut to her brother’s house and been hit by a plane.
The tenants rights situation is a direct result of the left and socialist thinking. The tenant is the poor downtrodden victim of capitalism and the landlord is the capitalistic fiend forcing the victim tenant to pay for what a socialist thinks of as a right, housing.
Logic has zero to do with it. It’s just communism “sticking it’s nose under the tent” before taking over.
The news keeps saying that the plane hit the man on the runway but the man hit the plane by being partialy sucked into one of the engines….
