Jill Biden’s Secret Service agent shoots himself in leg while escorting her through airport
By Emily Hallas
A member of former first lady Jill Biden‘s Secret Service detail shot himself in the leg on Friday while she was traveling through Philadelphia International Airport.“On Friday morning just after 8:30, an on-duty U.S. Secret Service Special Agent suffered a non-life-threatening injury following a negligent discharge while handling a service weapon at the Philadelphia International Airport during a protective assignment,” the Secret Service said in a statement. “There was no impact to the protectee’s movement and they were not present at the time of the incident.
The agency said no other injuries were reported, and the agent is being evaluated, but is in “stable condition.”
There will be a review of the incident by the Secret Service’s Office of Professional Responsibility.
The Philadelphia Police Department said the incident happened “near the 1 PIA Way access point and the Pennsylvania Tower. “
“According to initial reports, the agent was traveling in an unmarked Chevrolet SUV he accidently discharged his firearm,” police said. “Emergency medical services responded to the scene and transported the agent to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.”
No Score.

As if being on Jill Biden’s security detail wasn’t bad enough. Hat tip to our own ChipNASA for the link. Also today’s gun pR0n inspiration thanks to DEA Agent Lee Paige for just being professional enough.

I’ve no idea as to how SS Agents handle unpopular assignments. I’m sure they do the same thing we did in the military: suck it up, do our jobs to the best of our ability, and let professionalism overcome personal biases and opinions.
My one SS friend had been assigned to one of the Bush’s protective details after they left office. One of his final assignments was guarding a residence of a certain former VP turned Presidential Candidate. He posts on FB semi-regularly and seems to support that former Candidate’s opponent, but I never heard him say anything bad about the person he was tasked to safeguard. That’s sure to be a quick way out of the Secret Service. As we all know, the FBI and other agencies seem to be all-in on allowing Special Agents to denounce and go after Presidents, though.
I don’t understand the whole weapons discharge thing, though. Wonder how long before it’s claimed he carried a P320. I carry my Glock 17 60+ hours a week on average. It doesn’t leave the holster when I’m at work; I’ll flip the retention strap sometimes to build muscle memory, but the gun itself only comes out on weekends for a wipe down or cleaning. Hopefully, I never have to draw it on duty.
I want to get a 10mm at some point. Never owned one. I like the feel of full power .44 Mag and the flashbang effect of .357 through my little Taurus 605, so I doubt 10mm recoil would bother me. First, though, I still want to to get the FN545 Tactical. I’m limited to 9mm, .40, and .45 for my job, so 18+1 rounds of .45 +P seems like a pretty good choice on the off chance I ever need it.
I carry my P320 about that much.
So far, it hasn’t shot me in the leg or anywhere else.
I have a 605 polymer. Absolutely love it. You’re right about the flashbang effect, it seriously barks and muzzle flame for days.

Probably not relevant to modern plastic framed pistols, but at a range I used regularly, I used to rent a 1911 in 10mm before I bought my own .45acp 1911. Granted, much heavier guns than modern duty weapons, but as a point of comparison, I found the 10mm recoil to be similar enough to .45acp that it didn’t bother me at all. A little snappier with slightly more muzzle flip, so not quite as quick back on target, but the difference was barely noticeable in my opinion.
If you can handle .44mag comfortably, 10mm should be no problem, even in a lighter framed gun.
“the agent was traveling in an unmarked Chevrolet SUV he accidently discharged his firearm”
Yea…”accidently”[sic]. Stick with that story. I guess that’s as good a way as any to get a break from a shitty assignment.
Side note: I always thought it was “accidentally”. It’s a good thing we have all those highly professional, educated journalists and their layers of editorial oversight and fact checkers to straighten us out.
The best firearms instructor I ever met started his classes with, “I’ve never had a negligent discharge. And I’ll never have one again either.”
Then he’d go into Col. Coopers 4 Rules.
Itchy balls? No , just scratching my nuts. Blam!!!
Whoops!
