One dead, two injured after shooting in Odessa

By Matthew Alvarez
ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – Odessa Police are investigating after three people were shot, one of whom died Sunday night.

Officials say that on Sunday, Feb. 16, at about 7:30 p.m., OPD was called to a home on the 500 block of Bunche.

Homicide detectives are still very early in their investigation, so details are limited.

On scene, officers found Rene Mendoza, 33, deceased in the front yard.

Investigators also found a resident of the house, Sergio Ramos, 26, and another subject named Stephanie Urias, 33, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were taken to Medical Center Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

Odessa Police say that they believe that Rene Mendoza arrived at the residence in a vehicle.

Officials go on to say that they have reason to believe that Mendoza came with the intention of confronting another person at the house and had the intention to assault him.

There was also at least another person with Mendoza when he arrived, OPD says.

According to people on the scene, Sergio Ramos armed himself prior to Mendoza’s arrival. Also, according to sources at the scene, Mendoza exited the vehicle, brandishing a firearm, according to police.

After a brief altercation between the parties, Sergio fired several rounds.

He told officers that he feared death or serious bodily injury at the time he shot. During this time, both Sergio and Stephanie Urias were shot. The subject(s) that arrived with Rene Mendoza fled the scene, according to OPD.

Officers secured a warrant and arrested one subject who was found to be with Rene Mendoza.

1 dead after DC police involved in second Northwest shooting within hours

Anna Chen
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A D.C. police officer was involved in a shooting in Northwest on Tuesday evening, just hours after a separate one happened nearby.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said just after 6 p.m., a car was heading southbound in the 3500 block of Georgia Avenue when it drove into oncoming traffic and struck a marked MPD cruiser.

The driver got out of the car, took a knife out, reached into the open window of the MPD cruiser and started swinging the knife while demanding the officer hand over their service weapon.

The officer moved into the passenger seat and told the driver to get back but he refused. This prompted the officer to shoot him.

The officer got out of the car to check on the driver and called for help.

While requesting for DC Fire and EMS crews to respond to the scene, the driver got up, picked up the knife and started approaching the officer again.

The officer told the driver to drop the knife but he refused and he then got into a police cruiser nearby.

Other officers began demanding for him to get out of the cruiser which he did but was still holding the knife.

He then goes to a car with a woman inside, opens the driver’s door and tries to carjack the woman.

An officer fired their service weapon which struck him.

Stop the threat. Thanks, Gun Bunny.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neanderthal

The first story reminds me of the scene from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly….Tuco in the bath, “If you’re going to shoot, shoot. Don’t talk, shoot”.
Sounds like Mr Ramos took that advice to “heart”.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neanderthal

Mr Metro with the knife was (was) certainly a single minded zombie. Those last rounds fired by the po-po must have hit his last operating brain cell.

If you’re gonna take a knife to a gunfight, make sure it is attached to the hand of a small framed smiling man.

“Brandishing” a firearm is as worthless as talking while a gunfight is unfolding.

Nothing evil about trying to deal with stupidity.

If Ramos and Uria were inside the home and saw Mendoza outside with a gun, the prudent thing is to stay inside with the door locked and not directly confront the aggressive party. Let him try to enter, then from a position of cover provide him with ventilation holes. No reason to do the high noon outside showdown stupidity.

Nice collection! What are the differences between models? Some are obvious in the pics, but are there specific definitions for each?

Sirupate means “thin-leaf shape.” Here’s the description on their page:

The Sirupate (thin-leaf) is an extremely popular form of khukuri which takes the durability and power that khukuris are famous for and swaps out a bit of heft for a lot more speed.

In contrast with the larger Budhuna (fish-head) blade, the sirupate is typically far more slender, usually with a slightly thinner spine to boot. This allows the knives to be significantly more agile, with a much greater tip speed and less cutting resistance. This optimises the blades for thinner wood and gives them the ability to hack through thin flexible brush in a way that many larger khukuris simply aren’t capable of. At the same time though, sirupates are commonly longer as well, which helps maintain some chopping power and again amplify that all important tip speed.

Chitlange:

This particular style of chitlange that we’ve gone with is a regional variant from Limbuwan and is even more slender and severe towards the tip with dramatic fullering to heighten it’s offensive capabilities. A khukuri in this style was perhaps most notable wielded by the renowned gurkha Kailash Limbu.
