Charges against Alec Baldwin dropped?
The special prosecutors assigned to the involuntary manslaughter charge case involving Alec Baldwin are expected to file to have the charges dismissed without prejudice. Alec Baldwin’s lawyers are happy about the decision and wish for a proper investigation to be conducted.

Sources told Deadline that special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis, who were recently appointed to the case, are expected to file paperwork soon to dismiss the charges without prejudice. This means that while the charges are dropped for now, the case could be reopened in the future as the investigation continues.
Baldwin’s legal team, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, are pleased with the decision and are encouraging a proper investigation into the circumstances of the tragic accident. The Santa Fe’s District Attorney’s office declined to comment on the situation.
“We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident,” said Baldwin attorneys.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, Baldwin’s co-defendant and ex-Rust armorer, still faces charges, keeping the investigation open and giving prosecutors the power to subpoena going forward.

Prosecutorial incompetence is a phrase being bandied about on this. I read a mention of the hammer being replaced on the revolver in question – whether done prior to, or after, forensic testing is important. I suspect that if after, the prosecutors may feel the evidence may be tainted before the defense can properly analyze it on their own. Who knows…

New Mexico is another one of those states where political control resides in the Dem-controlled cities and rural conservatives have no voice.
They can hold out the possibility of charges being refiled, but they won’t–this injustice will die a quiet death in some late Friday afternoon news release when it has been all but forgotten by the public.
Truth. Imagine being from an area as red as Farmington (like me) and realizing that Santa Fe and Taos were filled with stank-ass hippies that were too weird for CA.
I heard it was the trigger that was replaced. It wouldn’t make any difference either way. The subject revolver was laboriously tested at the FBI firearms lab, and it functioned normally. This is merely an excuse for dropping the charges. I also heard that the charges against the armorer. Bottom line, Baldwin had to have pulled or held the trigger back with hammer at full cock, or the pistol could not have fired.

I heard they are dropping the charges against that incompetent armorer, as well, when she was likely the person who loaded the repo SAA.

Since it is evidence, it has to be in a sealed evidence box since the FBI returned it to New Mexico.

There is one Judge whom Alec Baldwin cannot escape.
I wouldn’t cry if he had a Court appearance before said Judge tomorrow.

IIRC, she was someone with very little prop gun experience that Baldwin (also a producer, which is why he should get more blame than just being the actor who fired the gun) hired as a way to save money rather than hiring an experienced armorer.
She got the job because her daddy is a longtime Hollyweird armorer and she was low bidder.
Gutierrez Reed, according to affidavits filed by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, had loaded the weapons that day, but she told sheriff’s detectives that she didn’t realize that actual bullets were contained in a new box of ammunition that arrived on set that day.
Gutierrez Reed told sheriff’s detectives that although she checked Baldwin’s gun that day before the unscheduled rehearsal, she “didn’t really check it too much,” because the weapon had been locked in a safe during a lunch break.
She also complained to deputies that she was stretched too thin performing her props role and was unaware that a rehearsal was taking place.
Santa Fe County authorities have not said where the live bullets came from. Law enforcement officials previously have said their investigation is focusing on the actions of Gutierrez Reed, Halls and Baldwin.
The Oct. 14 exchange with Pickle, who was the producers’ point person in charge of the day-to-day production, underscores how the young women in the props department, with limited experience, were struggling to keep up with the pace of the film’s production.
