John Hemphill; phony Marine may face justice
Late last year, we wrote a bit about John Hemphill who Fox6 in Milwaukee busted for pretending to be a Marine. Fox6 reports that some folks in the area are getting involved so Hemphill might be the first person to be prosecuted under Wisconsin’s brand spanking new stolen valor law;
[M]ilitary records obtained by the FOX6 Investigators show he never served a day. We first exposed Hemphill’s bogus backstory last fall, and when State Assemblyman David Steffen saw the report, he didn’t mince words.
“Scumbag. Absolute scumbag,” he said.
The Green Bay Republican says what Hemphill is doing is an affront to veterans.
[…]
Steffen wrote Wisconsin’s own stolen valor law in 2015, which makes it a Class A misdemeanor to falsely claim military service for any kind of personal gain.
[…]
FOX6’s investigation landed Hemphill on the front pages of pro-military blogs and websites across the country. It also caught the attention of West Allis Police Detective Tom Kulinski, a retired Marine. Detective Kulinski recently took a stack of paperwork he’s compiled on Hemphill into the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. He’s seeking five misdemeanor charges against Hemphill for lying about military service to get a discount on his cell phone bill, a bank account with USAA, membership in the Wisconsin American Legion, and more.
Federal prosecutors were unwilling to prosecute Federal laws, so the state legislature stepped up and it looks like Mr Hemphill will be the test case.

Fuck Yeah!
There’s never enough free shit to satisfy some people. In fat boy’s case, there’s never enough calories to be consumed either.
Well, he’s definitely too fat to be a Marine, so I would certainly not buy him a cup of coffee. I might throw it at him.
Did Pillsbury Dough boy get a mylowes card for the military discount? From the looks he is an avid gardener & grazer.
Uhh, I think you meant “Gazer”. You know, of the meat variety.
🤠
I think it’s both. He also grazes at the all-you-can-eat buffets.
And he quaffs from the Golden Corral Chocolate Fountain.
I see a “all he will eat buffet” at the BTJT Deli (Home of the Cockmeat Sammich and Ghey Whey Shake) in his future.
“He also grazes at the all-you-can-eat buffets.”
And they are scared.
Hey, what’s wrong with a Lowe’s discount?
Get some!! May only be misdemeanor charges, but screw you tubby!
Guy looks like he ate a few Marines. Maybe a platoon.
As I recall, the DA for Milwaukee is none other than John T. Chisholm, a truly deplorable beast who may actually be more disgusting than BrokeBack Bernath.
If Hemphill is looking for an easy deal, all he’d have to do is identify as a far-left extremist and Milwaukee will probably make him an Honorary non-Marine.
Looks like he might have eaten a couple of Marines.
He lives right next door to the spot that the latest connoisseur of walking, talking human prey lived….
(Not really, added for comic effect)…
Sparks, exactly my initial reaction to his pic.
I would be tempted to revisit the Federal option, now that some real leadership exists at that level.
I doubt that a Marine CH-53E could lift this guy, even as an external load.
And he certainly wouldn’t fit into a Marine KC-130, even if they palletized him and tried to stuff him in horizontally.
The Marines will have to procure a C-5B for this one…
Or maybe an Airbus Beluga:
“Misdemeanor Charges” in Wisconsin are “Felony Charges” in Florida. Kyle Christopher Barwan, Stolen Valorist, is about to be shown that law enforcement is aware that he is violating his probation, claiming to be a Special Forces Sniper/Commissioned Officer, on loan to the CIA to “eliminate” some people here in the States before he is deployed to Germany for 27 months.
I say HELL YEAH, let’s see what jail time he can be given for his con games. I wonder how quickly his Defense Attorney will snivel the words “First Amendment” in an attempt to get his client off and back out on all the doughnut buffets he can find?
Maybe he can get a military discount for prison commissary.
Or free delivery for his Prison Pizza!
Never mind, that’s Chicago.
This is as good of a place to put this, and I apologize for “thread hijacking.”
A Hastings, MI police officer is suing the City of Hastings and officials over racial discrimination. (The back story is somewhat strange, but that’s not relevant to my question.)

The actual lawsuit (https://tribwxmi.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/1-main-2.pdf ) says the following:
Combat operations? In Korea? In the 1990’s? Did I miss a report of combat in Korea or is this a case where the Army says “you served in combat if….” some other standard was met?
Could this be talking about the “Korean Service Defense Medal?”
Color me confused.
Thanks in advance.
Well, if the KDSM and a dues check is all you need for entrance into the VFW, then it must mean you were in combat.
But wait, don’t you remember the 2 August 1990 incident at the Dongducheon mess hall?
It was the bold letter headline of that day and even overshadowed other world events.
Rival faction members of the Box and Snapping gangs squared off in a dispute over who had priority for early entrance at the breakfast meal and hand to hand combat ensued, with many reported injuries to personnel on both sides.
Later reports claimed that up to 50% disability was granted by the Army, overruling the VA findings at the time.
I’m surprised you don’t remember that.
